Very happy with gigantic leg of lamb. So much left so will easily do another two dinners which nearly makes it good value!

@Spam88 Lamb stock makes lovely boulangere potatoes. Delicious melty yummyness and very easy!

Furble · 12/04/2020 20:09

@IJumpedAboardAPirateShip How about some kind of green bean bhaji type thing like this.

Had cold roast chicken for lunch with the carrot salad from @Furble upthread. DC loved it - said it tasted like cheese and onion crisps!! (I think that must have been the spring onions). Too much chocolate afterwards....

RubySlippers77 · 12/04/2020 23:10

Have to admit that most of today's menu featured chocolate Blush but I did make a big pasta bake for lunch, which both DC turned their noses up at Sad I'm still struggling with my lack of taste so I think my food is turning out a bit bland, I don't want to over-season it as DP isn't a fan of hot food!

Have some black bananas to use up. Banana and chocolate chip loaf tomorrow if I still have enough flour...

Furble · 13/04/2020 08:42

Delicious looking lamb legs! I think that might have to be my next project when we stock up again.

Glad the DC liked the carrot salad @Londonmummy66 Grin My DF used to make that salad for us growing up and I’ve always loved it.

I’ve three ailing nectarines to find a purpose for today and stock to make. Might make a list of priority ingredients to use over the next few days as well.

sueelleker · 13/04/2020 09:24

I've got 3 overripe bananas; I think I'll freeze them and make banana bread later; when I've finished the malted bread I made the other day.

PurpleDaisies · 13/04/2020 09:49

I’ve got a large bunch of parsley that needs using. I’m thinking of making pesto, then using that for pasta tonight with things from jars. A couple of peppers look really sad so I think I’ll roast those and use them too.

I’ve got some time today so I’m going to make the aloo tikki posted up thread for tomorrow.

Might make a list of priority ingredients to use over the next few days as well.

This is what I did last night. I’ve now got a list on the fridge where I’m adding things to use up quickly, then crossing them off when I’ve used them. It’s very satisfying!

Weedsnseeds1 · 13/04/2020 10:23

Just had a surprise delivery from a friend who owns a bakery. Completely made my day, better than Easter eggs!!!

PurpleDaisies · 13/04/2020 10:24

Wow weeds I’m very envious! What are you going to make?

Saying that, I’ve got a baking cupboard full of old flour so it’s a good chance to use that up.

Weedsnseeds1 · 13/04/2020 10:32

It's bread flour, so bread, Bath buns, Chelsea buns, lardy cake...
So many possibilities!
I have a selection of "exotic" flours, but was down to my last few 100g of strong white.
I can't remember the last time I was this excited about something! Grin

PurpleDaisies · 13/04/2020 10:50

This is my favourite bread to make.

Weedsnseeds1 · 13/04/2020 11:23

Nice, wish I had one of those cylindrical tins for milk bread.
I'm going to start a sourdough today and have a poolish I made yesterday for today's loaf. Think will use mainly white, with a proportion of exotica for interest!
Now racking my brains, trying to think if I have a basket somewhere I can repurpose as a banneton!

Furble · 13/04/2020 13:40

Has anyone ever tried upcycling chicken skin by crisping and and crumbling over dishes like a risotto? Thinking of giving it a go... Grin

Ninkanink · 13/04/2020 13:45

We always eat all our chicken skin so no, I’m afraid I can’t help on that one...😄

I’m attempting soda bread with odds and ends of flour lying around before I start on the strong white flour I got delivered the other day. I had yeast already so we are all set.

Tidying the fridge was satisfying - I have pulled all the quarter full jars to the front and am using them up determinedly. Courgettes with pesto for lunch and dinner will be chicken marinaded in tamarind paste and mango chutney.

cricketmum84 · 13/04/2020 14:46

Using up some veg today in a very healthy thai style broth that my DD (15) usually cooks for me. Lots of chilli, garlic, lime, coriander and ginger, carrot ribbons, babycorn, broccoli and pak choy. Throw in a noodle nest towards the end. It's always so tasty!

Igneococcus · 13/04/2020 15:56

I baked baguettes today using Paul Hollywood's recipe.

Weedsnseeds1 · 13/04/2020 16:27

Those baguettes look fantastic "Igneococcus*!

Furble · 13/04/2020 16:35

Oh wow they look amazing! Was it difficult?

Igneococcus · 13/04/2020 16:48

Not difficult at all. I followed the instructions to the letter and it worked out really well. They taste as good as they look. I will make them a lot more often even once we can just go to the shops again.

Igneococcus · 13/04/2020 16:50

Forgot: I don't have those "couches" that PH used to shape the baguettes but I just used baking paper that I folded up a bit between the baguettes and that worked fine.
