Did anybody go grey at a young age?

The women in my family tend to go grey quite young. I didn't manage to get my hair done before lockdown and I've noticed a fair few greys coming through! I'm 30 in a couple of months.

Anyone else start going grey early?

(Should have added to my previous post im now late 30s)

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/04/2020 14:19

I dye my hair normally as I don't like the natural colour but I get it done at the hairdesser. I'll be quite interested to see how many there are by the time I can go again!

Me! I'm 27 and have some big grey streaks, especially at the front 😬

First greys at 16, at the temples.
I had dark blonde hair, so you couldn't see them as such, and I always had long hair.
When I had children I got my hair cut and the hairdresser was quite shocked when he lifted my hair to see how much I wanted off...and all the underneath part round my face was white Grin
After children my hair went dark, so now (mid-40s) I have white hairs all through, probably about 35-40%.

Mine are all in my parting! I have dark brown hair so really noticeable.

I’m 30. Had a few odd greys from about 18, a small clump from about 20 and now have lots of greys throughout, very visible through my parting and when my hair is up!

bingowingsmcgee · 07/04/2020 14:39

I got my first couple of greys at 18, decided to pack the dye in age 40 and now 18m later I have a thick white streak at the crown. I'll learn to work with it. Not dyeing anymore. I don't trust that it doesn't do you any harm. If I get really sick of it I'll investigate brown henna maybe.

elQuintoConyo · 07/04/2020 14:39

Foundry first grey hairs at 17.

Dyed it ages 24-38.

Then let it grow out. I've been grey since, so 6 years. It's silver-white-blonde with a dark patch underneath. Has a different colour in different light. Very healthy and much stronger than before.

Dye it. Don't dye it. But let's not bash each other with 'oh I could never be grey, how aging' vs 'stop putting chemicals on your head'.

Bananalanacake · 07/04/2020 14:48

It's not grey, it's silver

inwood · 07/04/2020 14:49

41 and 50% grey now. Stopped colouring it as I developed an allergy to hair dye and was spending a fortune on non scalp contact highlights. The high and low lights just became pointless and there were too many greys to blend and it looked like I had added blonde and silver streaks. Because it's all grown out I have avoided the grey stripe at the roots. I have also been lucky in that so far the texture is the same.

My hair is long and naturally dark, I actually really like it now and the greys look like silver highlights.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 07/04/2020 14:49

First grey hairs in my teens. Now 34 and getting some definite silver streaks. I sometimes dye it-but I’m lazy so then it grows through again

InTheCludgie · 07/04/2020 14:52

I noticed my first grey hairs at 25. DH has been going steadily grey since his late teens and his dad before him was completely white haired by his mid 40s. Our kids dont stand a chance, they will probably find their first greys when they hit puberty.

Lllot5 · 07/04/2020 14:54

I’m 56 and don’t have any.
One of the benefits of being a redhead 👩🏽‍🦰

Prisonbreak · 07/04/2020 14:54

My granny was fully grey by 15. I’m 32 and have none. I’m a redhead though and my hairdresser doesn’t think I’ll go grey for many years if at all

EchidnasPhone · 07/04/2020 14:56

How have people found the process of growing it out? I’ve had grey hair since about 15. Spent years dyeing in the salon then box dyes and now back at the hairdressers every 8 weeks for full head highlights. My problem is dark brown then white grey so the highlights help. I’ve toyed with the idea of growing it out purely to reduce the cost!

AfterSchoolWorry · 07/04/2020 14:56

I developed a mallen streak at 15.

Walkingthedog46 · 07/04/2020 14:56

All the women in my family have gone snow white with age. I started to get white streaks in my hair about the age of 30. People used to ask me where I got my streaks done!

Groovee · 07/04/2020 14:57

In my late 20's and my hair is very grey now in my early 40's. Although it's not been dyed for 10 weeks it actually looks ok.

LER83 · 07/04/2020 14:59

I'm 36 and my hair is very grey underneath all the dye. I've been inspired by the grombre movement though and I haven't dyed it in a good few months. My hair grows really slow so will be a long time before it's all grey.

AravisTarkheena · 07/04/2020 15:01

Noticed my first grey hairs at 23 - I don’t dye it but do occasionally pull out a grey if I spot it! I’m now 30 and tbh don’t have that many more than I did at 23. It’s the fact they’re wiry and stick out that is the problem! I have other friends who are letting themselves grey in their twenties too.

AravisTarkheena · 07/04/2020 15:02

I’d love a streak they look very cool.

TooMuchEyeliner · 07/04/2020 15:22

I got my first grey hairs aged 10. My Mum started to dye it regularly from the age of 12. I recently tried to go natural to give my hair and skin a rest but it looked awful so I’m back on the box dye for now.

VetOnCall · 07/04/2020 18:02

I started to notice a few greys along my parting in my late 20s. They haven't proliferated too fast or all over but now I'm late 30s and they're definitely scattered all along the parting and around my temples. My hair is long and curly and its natural colour is light brown with blonde tones. I usually get it coloured at the hairdresser every 6-8 weeks to cover the greys, with blonde/caramel highlights re-done every other visit, but obviously having to make do at home for the moment. I can't see me ever 'embracing the grey', I hate it!

Ohyesiam · 07/04/2020 18:07

First grey at 25.
I think most people go grey in their 30 s though, don’t they?

Violetparis · 07/04/2020 18:11

I started at around the age of 25, usually dye it every 6-8 weeks and use spray to cover roots to lengthen the time between dyes.
