I had a Peacock butterfly sitting on my outside kitchen windowsill a few minutes ago (please excuse the dirt). Must be the sunshine bringing them out of hibernation😊.

Zogsbigsister · 07/04/2020 11:16

Yes lots, they really cheer you up don’t they

boomchikawowwow · 07/04/2020 11:16

I've seen a few already

EL8888 · 07/04/2020 11:16

Yep! A fair few plus plenty of bees.

Isadora2007 · 07/04/2020 11:17

Yes a few butterflies but loads of big fat bumble bees. 🐝

TeenPlusTwenties · 07/04/2020 11:18

I've seen a few butterflies, and heard a woodpecker yesterday too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/04/2020 11:19

A couple but I couldn’t get a good look at them. Few bees, wasps, a big fat bumble bee.

I’m willing my buddleja to produce flowers ASAP.

AgathaX · 07/04/2020 11:20

A few and lots of lovely bees

bluegrasse · 07/04/2020 11:31

A few butterflies, no wasps, lots of bumblebees.

WildRosie · 07/04/2020 12:06

Spring has sprung. I hope the bees are in rude health.

I have seen one.

Do you know the moomins at all? Moomintroll says that the first butterfly you see each year tells you how the summer will be. So a golden one would be best.

The one I saw first this year appeared black Sad

BrooHaHa · 07/04/2020 12:16

Yep. Lots of bees as well. Saw two honeybees mating too. Selfishly hoping they don't build their hive near my house!

BeetrootRocks · 07/04/2020 12:17

Yellow ones the other day

Soubriquet · 07/04/2020 12:17

Yep

Plenty of monarch butterfly’s around here

And some nice honey bees have been spotted (dc freaked out cos they fought they were wasps Hmm)

bluegrasse · 07/04/2020 12:18

Adreamofgood I thought for a moment you were going to say you'd seen a moomin troll, I was going to ask what you were on!

inwood · 07/04/2020 12:18

Lots, and big fat buzzy bumble bees in the last few days. I haven't seen the honey bees yet.

Ylfa · 07/04/2020 12:20

I saw two small coppers this morning - had to look them up because don’t really know butterflies very well 😳

GreyGardens88 · 07/04/2020 12:23

Saw one just now in zone 2, no where near a park or anything fly past my window it was green

YewandOak · 07/04/2020 12:23

Yes. Was watching a cabbage white yesterday alongside the railway line.
Quite a few of them about here.

ADreamOfGood · 07/04/2020 12:23

Oh bluegrasse I wish I had seen a moomintroll! That would be amazing.

(We do have the cuddly toy versions of moominpappa, moomintroll, and the snork maiden here, mind you!)

ADreamOfGood · 07/04/2020 12:26

On a more positive note, I can see the most amazing magnolia in bloom from my office window. It's in the garden of a closed cafe, so no-one else is enjoying it right now, but it cheers me tremendously.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2020 12:27

Lots of them - peacocks, commas, small tortoiseshell.

I’m willing my buddleja to produce flowers ASAP.

The butterflies now are the ones which have overwintered and are busy breeding. I'm not sure whether they feed much now?
The ones that cluster on buddleia will be their offspring nearer the back end of the year, I think.

So what we need now is leaves for them to lay eggs on and for their caterpillars to munch!Grin

WildRosie · 07/04/2020 12:31

Plenty of leaves here. The trees and bushes are getting greener every day and the cherry trees near my flat are beginning to blossom. Looks nice and great for insects but doesn't help my hayfever.

Yes loads. And loads of big fat bumblebees 😁

morecoffeerequired · 07/04/2020 12:46

Yes, I've been seeing peacock butterflies for a couple of weeks now. And loads of bees for some time. We have a rosemary bush in the garden that's been flowering for months and the bees love it.
