He needs all the positivity and hope people can muster.

That's not going to help him recover, what he needs is the dedicated NHS professionals who we are fortunate to have.

It is worth remembering that if you get it, and get worse, you need to act quickly to get medical help.

This doesn’t apply to just the PM. I have a serious heart condition and have been told by my consultant that if I develop any symptoms I am to go in because of my propensity to crash hard and fast. Which doesn’t quite tie in with the tabloids narrative of “only those who are young or in good health will be treated.

Also for those stating that he will be on this; he must have been so much sicker than...” is hideous supposition based on people’s apparent right to know what’s going on.

Again, different condition, but I was in hospital last summer. I had spent time on icu but had subsequently been discharged on to the CCU ward, had been up, sat out in the chair, no oxygen, no nothing, woke up in the night, picked up my phone to check texts, sat up to put it back, felt dizzy and subsequently went into cardiac arrest. So yes, it is possible to go from relatively ok albeit still needing to be in hospital to almost dead in a split second.

I suspect this thread will be gone anyway by morning but in the event that it isn’t, suffering from anxiety isn’t justification for spreading speculation from facebook. And “it was on facebook for everyone to see” isn’t a justification. The media is currently full of articles about how we should be avoiding what’s on facebook since most of it is made up scaremongering rubbish.

And really, if you’re that anxious about what you read on the internet, the off button is there

I’m sad that he’s in ITU, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. His partner must be beside herself. He’s certainly not going to bounce back into number 10 in a couple of days feeling fine and dandy.
It’s not a death sentence though, a friend was in itu with Covid a couple of weeks ago and is now recovering at home, similar age to Boris.

Yappity..I don’t know what happened. I don’t need or want to know what happened but whatever it was it happened.
Take a step back from all this crap. Please . I mean this kindly.
There’s no need to self flagellate any more .
You’re worried and fearful. I understand that.
You’ve got enough going on with your child. That’s worrying enough.
Me and dh don’t watch the news. I suspect he reads it online but I don’t.
I’m quite sensitive to atmospheres so it’s my choice to keep my mh intact and so far it’s serving me well.
My son is a key worker and I could get myself tied up in knots over it...but I don’t as it won’t serve any purpose.
My dil on the other hand is addicted to the news and was going into meltdown last night.
So, please. Switch off. Don’t let angry words on here or any other platform affect you.
Concentrate your energies on your family, resting , having fun and staying well.
Do what you can to keep positive, so important.
You’re a good person 👍

You're a good person too Dowser. Great post.

I send Boris and everyone else in ICU very best wishes, it doesn't bear thinking about. But I don't understand why anyone would come on to Mumsnet to ask if gossip they saw on FB was true - really? We no longer watch the TV news and only pick up the headlines online - much more would make anyone anxious.

Dowser · 07/04/2020 10:54

Thank you Pesky...I think it also helps that I don’t give a flying fuck about what anyone on here writes about me 😂
I try to live a good life, help where I can, have a laugh and a bit of fun . I have the love and respect of family and friends.
That’s what really matters.

Poor Boris and anyone else going through this or have loved ones going through this at home or in hospital and the one thing we really want to do is socially connect with one another and we can’t.

There’s a suggestion at 8 pm to clap for Boris and anyone else going through this tonight.
Why not?
My son has his first day off in 8 days..he’d normally pop in ☹️
Everyone , look after yourselves and stay safe
Our favourite brand of zinc ascorbate is out of stock everywhere, baldwins have had to close Through staff illness. Seems like everyone is looking after themselves.

steppemum · 07/04/2020 14:14

We haven't really had any running commentary of someone with symptoms or tested positive as yet. We havent heard of them being ok for 11 days then suddenly being admitted to intensive care. I do worry.

actually there are plenty of accounts of how the disease progresses around.

My dh has to follow it all as part of his job.
I posted upthread about how part of this disease is that you have symptoms for 7 ish days and then seem to either get better or suddenly get much worse, very quickly.

That is not just from BJ, but has been reported over and over in different countries.

So the message I take from that is that if someone gets worse, get them help quickly, and expect that to happen even after a few days of relatively mild symptoms.

daisypond · 07/04/2020 14:18

We havent heard of them being ok for 11 days then suddenly being admitted to intensive care.
It’s a common pattern and has been much reported.
