So has been tweeted by Laura Kuenssberg?

Recovery rates are about 50/50 but earlier intervention generally means a better chance and people have made it out of there and are now fine.

It's not an automatic death sentence.

crazydiamond222 · 06/04/2020 20:56

The news reports are saying that:

'The prime minister is understood to be conscious and to have been moved as a precaution in case he needs ventilation'

So hopefully a better than 50% chance of survival as he is being cared for at an earlier stage than most that end up in icu.

koshkatt · 06/04/2020 21:00

Hopefully those who were gloating over his diagnosis are feeling somewhat ashamed now....

This but I shall be avoiding twitter tonight as I think that the foul Momentum trolls will be out.

Get well Boris.

Redcrayons · 06/04/2020 21:00

Blimey, I wasn’t expecting this. Poor fella.

astropoodle · 06/04/2020 21:02

And if God forbid he doesn't make it... there will be shockwaves around the world.

Because he's the PM and the country needs stability or because a PM died?

Chattercino · 06/04/2020 21:02

Get well soon Boris

redeyetonowheregood · 06/04/2020 21:03

In our ICU it is 50/50 at the moment.

MozzchopsThirty · 06/04/2020 21:03

You can be given IVs and oxygen on a ward

He is likely to be having non invasive ventilation on ITU with a view to possible intubation if no improvement
Or he's already sedated, intubated and ventilated

I really hope he pulls through

Hippywannabe · 06/04/2020 21:04

Let's hope that he recovers if they have intervened early. He has done his best in an increasingly everchanging situation. whatever you think of his politics, the man always tries to put a positive head on and rally people through situations.
Praying for him.

GoodJobSteve · 06/04/2020 21:04

If he needs it he'll be on the ECMO machine, so the ventilator odds won't apply here.

BestZebbie · 06/04/2020 21:05

Any idea who his next of kin is? I presume not Carrie, as they are only engaged (unless something was very quickly signed yesterday).

Dowser · 06/04/2020 21:07

Hopefully he’s been put there because he’s pm and he’s got a bed should his condition worsen

Fosler · 06/04/2020 21:08

Praying he recovers. I've been impressed that he has taken this on and done his best to deal with it. This is an awful situation and there's no experience to draw on to help deal with it.

Ilovemypantry · 06/04/2020 21:08

When I watched the daily briefing today I had a very strong feeling that we weren’t being told the truth about Boris’ condition

astropoodle · 06/04/2020 21:09

They got the go ahead to apply for a decree absolute nearly a couple of months ago so assuming that's come through then it'll be his mother Charlotte or father Stanley.

GreyishDays · 06/04/2020 21:09

I’d think that, Dowser , I mean that he’s gone there earlier than others do.

ChainsawBear · 06/04/2020 21:09

Because he's the PM and the country needs stability or because a PM died?

Well, both really. From a clinical and detached perspective, the PM being incapacitated/dying during a major crisis is seriously suboptimal. But globally, more the latter. The virus killing a sitting leader of a major country will frighten and unsettle people and, consequently, markets and governments, in a pretty big way, I think.

RedToothBrush · 06/04/2020 21:10

He is NOT on a ventilator

Steven Swinford @Steven_Swinford (Deputy Political Editor at the Times)
Boris Johnson was moved into intensive care at 7pm this evening after his condition worsened over the course of this afternoon

The PM asked Dominic Raab to deputise for him before he moved

He remains conscious but has been removed to intensive care in case he needs a ventilator

Boris Johnson experienced breathing difficulties this afternoon and was given oxygen

When it became clear that he needed to move to intensive care he told an aide that Dominic Raab should deputise for him

He is still conscious

iCorona · 06/04/2020 21:15

@GoodJobSteve what’s an EMCO machine?

Appuskidu · 06/04/2020 21:17

If you weren’t on a ventilator, what would be the reason to take you into intensive care? What would you be given there that’s different from a normal ward?

GoodJobSteve · 06/04/2020 21:19

ECMO:

www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/aboutus/departments-services/heart-services/ecmo/

There are fewer than 20 of these in the UK, but they are the best chance someone with severe COVID-19 has.

missingmydad · 06/04/2020 21:19

End of life management can be done in intensive care, so can treatment for sepsis. My father was in a ITU for both.

Zilla1 · 06/04/2020 21:20

Goodjob, I like your cynicism but how many ECMO machines do you think there are across the whole of the UK?

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 06/04/2020 21:21

They've not exactly been honest with us so far, yesterday he was only going in for 'tests'

Zilla1 · 06/04/2020 21:21

Goodjob, was replying to your earlier post but have just seen your later one answering the question in advance.
