Furloughed Workers - is your employer topping up to 100%

I think my employee is a bit grumpy that I haven't topped her up to 100%.

I run a very small business, there are 2 of us. We offer a service, which we had to stop as soon as we were locked down. It wasn't safe for us to continue. So from that date there is no income until it is lifted.

If there wasn't the help from the government and I had to continue to pay her, I would have gone bankrupt (sole trader, not a limited company) .

Are you being topped up and what size company do you work for?

No and tbh, anyone can survive on that 80%. You're not going out. Christ, you're not even working. It's plenty and it's generous. Your employee is being completely ungrateful.

hanahsaunt · 06/04/2020 11:20

My third sector organisation is topping up for all those agreeing to furlough.

safariboot · 06/04/2020 11:24

Lolno.

And I'll only be able to make ends meet by spending my savings, and when they run out by borrowing money, and when my credit runs out by not paying my bills. (But my savings and available credit will last many months unless my credit card provider decide to be dicks and cut my limit).

Whoareyoudududu · 06/04/2020 11:26

I’m a teacher so still on full pay despite the college being closed. DH’s employer have just told him they will likely be placed on furlough by the end of this week but they will pay them in full which is good. He has been working from home for the past fortnight.

WanderingMilly · 06/04/2020 11:33

On furlough, getting 80%, I think that's perfectly reasonable since I'm at home, safe, and not even working. My company has around 100 maybe employers, I wouldn't be surprised if they folded to be honest. It must be very hard for them....

ClientQueen · 06/04/2020 11:34

85% but it's being done on average pay so includes commission which is a big relief

Doje · 06/04/2020 11:37

No, just the 80% which I'm massively grateful for. Work in retail, and sales have disappeared.

MowCopCastle · 06/04/2020 11:37

I'm an employer, ten of us in the company, I'm topping up to 100% for as long as I can.

Notverybright · 06/04/2020 11:38

Up until April 10th/11th - retail

Ibeingbornawomananddistressed · 06/04/2020 11:40

Yes, non teaching staff in independent school

Escapeonabroom · 06/04/2020 11:45

Im on 80% and massively grateful for it! Im not working and think 80% is more than generous.

LER83 · 06/04/2020 12:00

My husband works in a team of 15, 3 of the admin have been furloughed on 100% pay. The company is still making money like normal and the other employees are working from home, so he is financially able to do this.

Permenantlyexhaustedpidgeon · 06/04/2020 12:01

I’m on 80% and like others, hugely grateful for it. Business is still operating but with essential staff only, due to nature of the business we are actually getting more work in at moment. I’m genuinely just relieved I was allowed to stay at home safe with my son. I have offered to take a pay cut when I return (if we can return) too. I want the business to survive!

Redcrayons · 06/04/2020 12:05

No.
They are topping up the people over the £2500 so that they get the equivalent of 80%.

We also have a small number of staff still working who have taken a 20% pay cut So in theory we’re all in the same boat.

The company is small and they are trying to conserve cash so that we can fund a few lean months when we go back.

Snaga · 06/04/2020 12:08

We've just been told we're being furloughed. Very large company but one that will be massively hit by the economic fallout of Covid 19.

The situation changes week on week but we've been told that everyone being furloughed will have their salaries topped up to 100% for at least the next 12 weeks.

They're hoping by furloughing anyone non-critical which is a worrying thought for another day that they can save enough in the wage bill to keep everyone on full salary for the duration of the situation.

It's not a nice position to be in, but I'm grateful that they are genuinely trying to keep employees safe and paid.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 06/04/2020 12:09

DH is having his wages topped up to 100%. (Global Manager, leisure related industry)

I’m very, very grateful.

littleduckeggblue · 06/04/2020 12:11

Big name company. Only 80%

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/04/2020 12:12

DH is furloughed on 80%, no top up.

The factory part of his company is still working, those employees being paid as normal.

They'll be the ones keeping the company more viable so that seems fair.

Staywithmemyblood · 06/04/2020 12:14

DH has a small Ltd Co and is topping up wages to 100%

Nixen · 06/04/2020 12:15

Nope 80% and I think that’s fair as 60% of the company is still working - on 100% pay of course. I don’t think it would be fair for those of us not working to receive the same money

TheFlis12345 · 06/04/2020 12:16

Nope, my company (small, less than a dozen people, all on furlough other than the owners who are keeping the place running) isn’t topping up at all. The cap means I will be receiving less than half my normal pay. DH is also furloughed, his company (also small, about 30 people) is topping up though, not quite to 100% but close.

ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun · 06/04/2020 12:17

No, DH getting capped at £2500 gross. I'm still working from home but going on maternity leave in 14 weeks. That's when we can't manage.

iCorona · 06/04/2020 12:17

No small company

Nixen · 06/04/2020 12:17

I should point out the company I work for is lifting the £2500 cap so everyone furloughed will get 80% of their wages no matter what they earn so I think they have been more generous than they needed to be

MondeoFan · 06/04/2020 12:19

No small business with 12 employees. 4 employees are still working on 100% pay and the other 8 are furloughed on 80%
I have to be off work as I have young children but those that don't have any children I wonder how they feel about being off whilst others can work for 100% wages. Suppose it works both ways though the workers might be jealous of others at home on 80% so might prefer that
