The BBC just posted a section of the queen's speech on the news a wee while ago.
What's the point? Bit of a blooming spoiler! I like the queen and was looking forward to seeing her, now I feel like there's no point!
Why did they do that?!

A spoiler?! Grin Grin Grin

Were you expecting her to reveal all about Harry and Megan? Or tell us all that Kate smokes 40 a day?

Horehound · 05/04/2020 16:34

Haha I just mean surely we should get whatever she's Gona say first from her and then the news report in it! Rather than the news just telling us otherwise, what's the point?

It's not like there's going to be a massive plot twist or anything!

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 16:35

I thought all the media seemed to know it this morning.

I think it shouldn't have been leaked until it was broadcast.

Redcrayons · 05/04/2020 16:37

Grinat spoiler.

It’s going to be the same old stuff she always says.

Boyskeepswinging · 05/04/2020 16:38

I agree. And even more pissed off that this segment meant we missed the beginning of the daily briefing. The other day the BBC cut off the end of the briefing. They're not exactly covering themselves in glory at the moment.

midsomermurderess · 05/04/2020 16:39

Spoiler, God help us. These. Isn't a speech in existence that's not heavily trailed beforehand, and it's not from leaks.

Horehound · 05/04/2020 16:39

Yes yes I know it's not going to be ground breaking but still, I just don't agree with the fact new outlets and quoting it when we haven't even heard it from the horses mouth. She may as well have just release a statement and posted it online.

quite agree , the Queen should transmit her speech and then let the commentary begin

ChicChicChicChiclana · 05/04/2020 16:42

I agree. Why did they do that?

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 16:43

There was a failure in Downing Street. Not the BBC's fault.

A lot of the media reported what the Queen was going to say.
Not just the BBC

Tiddlytubbies · 05/04/2020 16:43

Oh, I read on twitter that she was going to announce she now identifies as a Male and would like to be referred to by the name Jeffery from now on. Is that not what the speech is about?

inflam · 05/04/2020 16:44

What's the point? Bit of a blooming spoiler! I like the queen and was looking forward to seeing her, now I feel like there's no point!

A spoiler? Really?

Surely we all know what's she is going to be saying anyway?

Longtalljosie · 05/04/2020 16:46

You know this happens at Christmas as well? On the day of the speech there’s a couple of agreed clips they can use to trail ahead? This is completely usual.

simonisnotme · 05/04/2020 16:48

Exactly, she should have recorded her speech and broadcast it on the same day. the bbc etc should not be telling us whats in it till its over
its her speech not the sodding media

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 16:49

ust don't agree with the fact new outlets and quoting it when we haven't even heard it from the horses mouth

So it's not just the BBC you have a problem with but you have a go at the BBC.

I agree that the speech should not have been leaked. I don't think it's right just to target the BBC

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 16:50

She should have just done it on Zoom.
With a link to all media.

But hey - let's have a go at the BBC....

bonnieclydesdale · 05/04/2020 16:56

Does it matter? It's not going to change anything or improve life for anybody, she'll have her ten minutes and it'll be forgotten before the end of the day because, realistically, what could she do to make things better for us?

She's hardly going to announce that the corgis have been working day and night and now have a wonderful vaccine for us all.

Crafting1Queen · 05/04/2020 17:03

This isn't something new, or only the BBC who do that, it's been happening for years that either the transcript of the speech Politicians etc are going to say, the next day for example are printed or quoted, or everyone starts speculating, when it's announced a statement is going to be made (at a certain time/the next day etc) what that announcement is going to say, well ffs, wait and see what they say, then discuss it. But no, no-one has any patience, and can't wait to see what is going to be said, I want to know nowwwwwwww.

eddiemairswife · 05/04/2020 17:13

I also think it's ridiculous that extracts are given in advance before the broadcast. And I don't see while speeches aren't broadcast live. (On Skype if need be).

Horehound · 05/04/2020 17:19

Oh for fuck Sake I quoted the BBC because i was watching the BBC. So I'm not someone bashing BBC because I hate them otherwise why would I even be watching BBC?!
I didn't even think about mentioning every single news outlet that did it but clearly I should have to get the rods out if some of your arses!

The point I'm making is no news outlet should be printing it until she has spoken otherwise there is literally no need for her to record the speech and anyone watch it 🤷🤦
Christ some of you are hard work...
