Queens speech spoiler bbc

The BBC just posted a section of the queen's speech on the news a wee while ago.
What's the point? Bit of a blooming spoiler! I like the queen and was looking forward to seeing her, now I feel like there's no point!
Why did they do that?!

Christ some of you are hard work...

😂

Horehound · 05/04/2020 17:21

Matt Hancock even said he was looking forward to hearing what she was going to say. Well, don't worry, Matt...just look up any news outlet....

I didn't even think about mentioning every single news outlet that did it but clearly I should have to get the rods out if some of your arses

Maybe you should have just said "the media" - and that would have covered it. Grin

I do though agree with you that NO outlet should have trailed it.

I like to be surprised - but you will be aware that the Queen's Speech is usually trailed as well by the media in general.

AvonBarksdale99 · 05/04/2020 17:39

Spoilers 😂 It’s not the new Marvel film

I think she should be forced to write it herself. Or, even better, make it up on the spot.

“Umm... come on everyone... keep going... et cetera”

FaFoutis · 05/04/2020 17:41

This is done with almost all speeches by politicians too. I agree with you OP, it makes the speech itself pointless. (No rod in my arse.)

sleepyhead · 05/04/2020 17:52

Yep, irritates me as well.

Media: Person x will say this

Media: Person x is saying this

Media: Person x said this

Got to feed that 24hr news cycle.

seekingwaxwings · 05/04/2020 18:14

I agree the media shouldn't have reported the contents before it was shown. I was looking forward to watching it but it seems rather spoiled now (I heard it accidentally on tv) so yes OP I consider it a spoiler too!

Enchantmentz · 05/04/2020 18:18

I noticed that on the news to op, thought it was pointless to tell us what she going to say as it kind of defeats the purpose.Hmm

KimchiLaLa · 05/04/2020 18:21

Buckingham Palace has told the media to reveal highlights! Jesus. She WANTS you to get a preview of what she will say.

BillysMyBunny · 05/04/2020 18:38

If you don’t want any ‘spoilers’ then don’t read them, it’s easy enough to avert your eyes and not click on any headline about the Queen’s speech. It’s perfectly reasonable for news outlets to report on a speech that’s been released in advance and publish it in the news, particularly as lots of the population won’t want to devote time to watching the full speech when you can just read the main points in a matter of minutes.

If the content of the speech was something that was expected to be kept private until broadcast then it wouldn’t have been released to the press.

NeedToKnow101 · 05/04/2020 18:43

I thought that when I just watched the news

SomethingOnce · 05/04/2020 19:03

Personal messages of empowerment and support etched onto 66 million bananas and delivered by Ocado might’ve hit the mark.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 05/04/2020 19:09

I thought the same as you OP - I don't think we should have known what was going to be in the speech at all. But I'm guessing the palace must have released details so I'm not surprised that media have reported on it beforehand. Personally though I think it would have greater impact without the "spoilers"!

Namechangervaver · 05/04/2020 19:19

I agree. It's ridiculous

Namechangervaver · 05/04/2020 19:19

CBA to watch it now

Horehound · 05/04/2020 19:25

@BillysMyBunny if there was an article I wouldn't have read it. This was read out loud on the news so I couldn't close my earsHmm and before you start no I couldn't have changed the channel because I was breastfeeding my baby and the remote wasn't nearby!

TSSDNCOP · 05/04/2020 20:07

I hadn't seen any spoilers and found it rather moving. Quiet and resolute, the way I like things to be.

PennyNotSoWise · 05/04/2020 20:13

I agree with you OP. I heard it on the news too, this morning, and they were supposed to touch upon a few points, but basically read the whole speech.

I don't see the point of doing that. I assume the Queen giving a speech is supposed to have a big impact, and that's lost when they tell us what she's going to say word for word.
