ASDA delivery in the way. What to expect?

Not had a delivery before and don’t know how it will work during lockdown. Will they just stand back while I unpack items from their boxes. How do I return an item I don’t want?

They’re left outside your door in carrier bags.

You can’t return substitutes. You can request a refund, but you have to take the item.

gamerchick · 04/04/2020 16:22

You're not seriously going to pick through it and hand shit back are you? Confused I don't do online shopping but even I know you don't do that.

Davespecifico · 04/04/2020 16:35

No I’m not going to pick it through. The message I just had said please hand back unwanted items to the driver for a refund. There’s just one item I want to return but dot. Want to cause any hassle either.

We got an asda delivery this morning and he just stood back while we unpacked the crate then when we stepped back he took the crate from the top step. I received an email in advance telling me what was substituted so if I'd been bothered I guess I would have just left them in the crate.

Poor guys was working a 6am to 10pm shift as they are that short of drivers.

JorisBonson · 04/04/2020 16:36

Asda don't deliver in carrier bags.

We take each crate into the kitchen, unload and give the crate back.

Davespecifico · 04/04/2020 16:38

It’s fine, I’ve misread the message. It said, “if you’re unhappy with items” so I presume that means you only hand back if they’re faulty.

Davespecifico · 04/04/2020 16:40

jorisbonson- I’m guessing you don’t come into the kitchen now it’s lockdown?

They turned up in a pair instead of the usual one. They unpacked the crates and put everything in to bags which they left by the door. Half my order was not available and I just accepted the substitutes then rang and got sone of them refunded.

JorisBonson · 04/04/2020 16:42

@Davespecifico I don't work for Asda 😂 that's what I do when they deliver to me.

Davespecifico · 04/04/2020 16:43

Ha ha! I just read that back!

I had my first asda delivery a couple of days ago. All items were bagged and left on doorstep. Had email before delivery to say no handing back unwanted items to the driver and to contact them if needing a refund. Website states that items to be refunded do not need to be returned to store at this time.

RhymingRabbit3 · 04/04/2020 16:45

They dont leave the crates for you to bring into the kitchen. That's what they used to do, but now they unload the crates in bags on the front step and leave them there for you to pick up.

JorisBonson · 04/04/2020 16:45

Obviously my last delivery was pre lockdown!

Twospaniels · 04/04/2020 16:48

I had an asda delivery for the first time two weeks ago.
The man put the crates by the garage.

Then he went back to his van
I put on gloves and put the stuff from the crates into my own crates.
He then came and collected the empty crates while i stood back
I left the shop in the garage for 72hrs before bringing it into the house.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 04/04/2020 17:18

Items will be in bags. I received an item damaged but he was unable to process this, had to take it back to local store (totally defeating point of having it delivered)

JigsawsAreInPieces · 04/04/2020 17:26

If you're self-isolating they'll phone you from the van to agree where they leave it in bags. They leave it outside and you wait til they've done before you go out to pick it up.

You keep the bags.

Ignore @JorisBonson who hasn't had a delivery since lockdown. Hmm

Kinneddar · 04/04/2020 17:32

Asda don't deliver in carrier bags

They do at the moment. Shopping all comes in bags for life

When I got an Asda delivery recently the driver put all the bags on the doorstep then rang the bell and stood back on the path and waited til I came to the door. Nice & easy

SassenachWitch · 04/04/2020 17:45

@JorisBonson they don’t usually deliver in carrier bags, unless you request and pay for them, but at the moment everything is bagged, the driver leaves the crates in the vehicle, drops the carrier bags on the doorstep, knocks the door and steps back.

DP lost his job 2 weeks ago so is now driving for Asda until this is over.

lemontreebird · 04/04/2020 17:52

Asda are delivering in carrier bags now - the more flimsy sort.

Redglitter · 04/04/2020 17:59

Oh my Asda (& Tesco for that matter) deliveries have come in the bags for life. I've got dozens of them at the moment.

All beautifully folded and stored after I saw a clever folding trick on FB. The things you find to do during a lockdown 🙄

HavenDilemma · 04/04/2020 18:07

@Twospaniels 72 hours?!?!?! 🙄🤣

JorisBonson · 04/04/2020 18:31

Alright @JigsawsAreInPieces keep your wig on.

Graphista · 04/04/2020 18:38

They’re not taking doorstep returns at the moment.

I’m in a flat so slightly different luckily I have a long internal hallway (bonkers as rest of flat tiny!).

They pop the totes just inside my front door at my request (I have ocd so don’t want them on the close/outdoor floor but also doing so would cause an obstruction for my neighbours)

They normally are bag free but currently are delivering in bags to limit contact and risk understandably so. So it’s just a case of lifting the bags out into my flat and when a tote is empty I stand back to let them take it out the way, I try and avoid touching the totes as much as possible.

Then letting the delivery guys get away ASAP - they’re very busy at the moment and also are training new recruits.

I then unpack properly and put away the bags. Job done.

I got a wrong delivery yesterday and discovered refunds now requested and processed online not sure if it works yet.

DeadButDelicious · 04/04/2020 19:03

I had my delivery yesterday. All in bags, they aren't taking back substitutions at the moment, you request a refund via the website and keep the item. The guy stood back while I unloaded the bags, then went off on his merry way.

Twospaniels · 05/04/2020 08:29

@Havendilemma
The virus can live on some surfaces for 72 hours.
You done know how many different people have touched the items i. Your shop.
Luckily our garage has been cold so fridge things have been fine.
Obviously this isn’t convenient for some people and so if I didn’t have the garage I would wipe or spray everything with antibac before bringing it into the house,
