Just now for those who want to know Smile

It's ridiculous. My DM, in her 70s and not in the shielded group, works for Tesco. She's been put on paid leave for 12 weeks but has been banned from shopping in store. She must shop online or get someone else to do it for her. She's perfectly willing and able to do a quick shop and potentially free up a slot for someone else, but they won't allow her to. Not that she can even get a slot in the first place though! Bizarre rule as they can't stop her going out and shopping somewhere else.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/04/2020 09:19

@Ghostlyglow pretty much. Its crap they should stagger them imo.

I got one for the 23rd. It means we have asda tomorrow and then tesco on the 23rd. I've upped my asda shop as much as possible to cover us those weeks with basics, but will have to go for bread and milk every few days locally. That's better than I hoped mind.

Weve always done online shopping, joint issues for me means I can't lift properly or use a trolley big enough for a family of 4. Dp can't come as he's in a vulnerable group, but not vulnerable enough for sainsburys.

Ghostlyglow · 03/04/2020 09:31

It's crazy. I'm even more annoyed with Sainsbury's, though. People, like me, who've used online shopping from the beginning have just been dropped. They'll lose alot of customers when this is over.

mistermagpie · 03/04/2020 09:57

Have you tried local companies for food delivery, instead of the big supermarkets?

We are getting bread delivered from a local bakery and and fruit and veg from another local company. Neither are charging for delivery and both are actually cheaper than the supermarket for nicer food! We can't get milk delivered just now but lots of dairies are still delivering to new customers in other areas.

I appreciate not every area will have these types of things and it took me a bit of googling to find these, but it's certainly worth a bit of a search if you can. One of the other companies in our area is also doing cheese and butter as well.

OneOfTheGrundys · 03/04/2020 09:58

Thank you @orangejuicer. DH has been told by his consultant he must self isolate for at least 6 months now. I have no idea how this will all work out. I’ll wear gloves etc. and just ask them to step back.

OneOfTheGrundys · 03/04/2020 10:02

We’ve been using local companies and wholesalers for most things but stuff like Easter Eggs for the DC Id like to have. Also DH’s palate has gone really different since chemo and getting him to eat is hard. He is craving strong flavours like pickle and really strong cheese (he’s allowed these) and it’s hard to get.
Oh well it could be worse Brew love to all xx

"It's crazy. I'm even more annoyed with Sainsbury's, though. People, like me, who've used online shopping from the beginning have just been dropped. They'll lose alot of customers when this is over"

People like ME have to risk my life, going into a supermarket, because people like YOU are taking all the slots !!!!!

DoIHaveToAdultToday · 03/04/2020 16:53

If people are healthy and able bodied.
There is NO reason at all why u cant go into a shop and get your shopping.
If your a single parent, you can take your children in the shop with you, they aren't asking you to tie them up outside

Ghostlyglow · 03/04/2020 17:03

@DoIHaveToAdultToday but I haven't got one! Don't blame me! And I can't use the NHS shopping times because I'm on shift then. I'm in the supermarket with you, so you'll be happy about thatSmile

BlueBoats · 03/04/2020 17:08

@DoIHaveToAdultToday you do realise not everyone drives?..

OxanaVorontsova · 03/04/2020 17:14

Tesco had slots available for this week and next when I went on just now

YgritteSnow · 03/04/2020 17:15

Just got one for next weekend!

DoIHaveToAdultToday · 03/04/2020 17:15

@BlueBoats

So? Your point is?

You do realise that people have conditions that make them extremely vulunrable that don't drive either. And going into the supermarket could kill them

Just because someone doesn't drive, does not mean they are entitled to a home delivery over a vunerable person.

So glad Sainsbury's are only doing delivery to those vulunrable people.
All supermarkets should do this!

BlueBoats · 03/04/2020 17:22

And what exactly are people who aren't within walking distance of a supermarket meant to eat? Hmm
So glad the other supermarkets have more intelligence than you and realise some people who usually use deliveries do so because they actually need them.

LuckyLuckyWoman · 03/04/2020 17:59

I just saw this thread and it prompted me to check, as I have not been successful at getting one for the inlaws at night time. I just got one for them for delivery next week, which is a relief

EasyTarget · 03/04/2020 18:13

I got one so pleased. Was worried I was going to have to badger local volunteers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/04/2020 18:25

Just managed to get one. Am so excited! We don't drive and have been relying on very basic supplies in a tiny local CoOp. I'd happily walk to a bigger supermarket, but have a health condition and can't carry lots back. Reluctant to get the bus. I refuse to feel guilty.

Lynda07 · 03/04/2020 18:51

I received my Iceland order just before 4.30pm and practically everything I ordered was on it. I really didn't expect that and was/am so pleased. Of course I realise it could just be a one off, couldn't get a slot anywhere else and the last time I ordered groceries (not from Iceland), nothing arrived - no explanation, it just didn't come. Still, living in the moment, I'm glad. I don't just order for myself so it's good.

DoIHaveToAdultToday · 03/04/2020 19:55

Some people are unbelievable selfish !

Christ!!!

DoIHaveToAdultToday · 03/04/2020 19:57

@BlueBoats

"""""So glad the other supermarkets have more intelligence than you and realise some people who usually use deliveries do so because they actually need them"""""

..... Have more intelligence than me??
Sainsbury's are only giving delivery slots to vunerable and elderly...

BlueBoats · 03/04/2020 20:29

I said other supermarkets, not Sainsbury's. Clearly comprehension isn't your strong point.
You still haven't answered how you expect people who rely on deliveries to get food?

Howmanysleepsnow · 03/04/2020 20:33

Tesco here won’t let us have a slot as they’re only for key workers and vulnerable.
DH is in the highly vulnerable group, I’m a nurse (though can’t work at the moment as self isolating: DH and 2 dc have symptoms) but the system doesn’t know that and won’t give us a slot, just that message! No way of getting any shopping for 9 days (assuming I don’t catch it on day 14, in which case 16!)
We last shopped 16 days ago, and have to ration what we have for up to another 16.

Peppafrig · 03/04/2020 21:02

Actually that isn't true Sainsbury’s aren't only giving deliveries to the elderly and the vulnerable . They get first pick then they rest go to their pass holders.

Peppafrig · 03/04/2020 21:11

@Howmanysleepsnow if your husband has the shielded letter apply for the boris box it's not much but would keep you going for a few more days .
