How are you disinfecting groceries?

Can see that it’s possible to wipe down bottles/jars but how do you clean a punnet of fruit or a loaf of bread?

OP posts:
Makinganewthinghappen · 06/03/2021 13:31

I’m not I just put them away and wash my hands afterwards.

LouLou198 · 06/03/2021 13:31

I'm not. Used anti bac wipes to wipe everything down that was wrapped last year. Lasted about a month then got sick of it.

Diesse · 06/03/2021 13:33

I’m leaving all larder stuff for a few days before unpacking (overkill no doubt) and I decant fridge caper into containers. I have a couple of shelves in fridge of ‘contaminated’ stuff that I tip into dishes or whatever and then I bin packaging and wash hands.

Blacktothepink · 06/03/2021 13:33

I blast everything with a blow torch...

Cccc1111 · 06/03/2021 13:35

I don’t. But if I did have the anxiety to, Milton tablets seems the safest option. Also quickest if you fill up a bowl/sink full of it and dip things in there.

letsgoandtango · 06/03/2021 13:36

Why has a (nearly) year old thread been reanimated? I thought everyone wiped groceries last march but then stopped because there is v little evidence CV spreads on surfaces rather than in the air?

B3ttyBoop · 06/03/2021 13:36

At the beginning of lockdown, i wiped off cans and cartons but didn't touch food items. I've always washed fruit and veg in water etc.

UntamedWisteria · 06/03/2021 13:37

This is a ZOMBIE thread resuscitated by a troll.

Don't waste your time & energy .... no-one is doing this shit any more.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/03/2021 13:37

I wouldn't dream of cleaning or quarantining food or deliveries. That would seriously send me over the age. For deliveries I unpack them straight away, bin the packaging, wash my hands. Most food you cook first. Other stuff that you don't eat fresh is often in packets that you can just tip out into something else if you're that bothered, or straight onto your plate if it's something like rocket.

For fruit, I always just rinse apples and soft fruit under the tap. Bananas have their own hygienic covering, don't they? You don't eat the skin. So I just peel the top and eat it. Then wash or antibac my hands afterwards.

I hand wash fairly often, wear a mask when out, stick to all the government guidance on distancing and travel.

I think it helps that I've been working in a school where, you know, the risk of coming across the virus is fairly high. So, what can you do? You can't hide at home scared.

LApprentiSorcier · 06/03/2021 13:40

I though 'disinfecting groceries'? A nostalgic whiff of lockdown 1 - and then saw this is a zombie.

Pan2 · 06/03/2021 13:44

I read that the evidence still indicates the covid virus stays on hard surfaces for a variety of lengths of time, depending on environmental factors, much like cold and flu viruses. Hence the very low profile of flu in the general population so far.

I think for people for whom wiping down groceries doesn't send them over an edge, it's further action to prevent spread, on top of washing hands after shopping.

Me too. Happy memories of faffing about with anti bac and j cloths, but not now for months. I wonder what the troll that resurrected this thread said? Confused
Mummyoflittledragon · 06/03/2021 13:48

I’m taking a leaf out of Miss Havisham’s book. Leave the banquet long enough and it will disintegrate.

CuteBear · 06/03/2021 13:48

People are crazy. I just wash fruit and veg.

jollygreenpea · 06/03/2021 13:50

I realise this a zombie thread, but my answer will still be the same, I have never wiped anything down at any time.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 06/03/2021 13:51

Alcohol - I reward myself with a G and T when I've put the weekly shop away. Helps my anxiety anyway.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 06/03/2021 13:51

Well I'm still urinating on all my shopping, as I stated on page 1 of this ZOMBIE THREAD FROM MARCH 2020. I haven't caught Covid yet so guess it worked.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/03/2021 13:53

@MacDuffsMuff

I use soap and water and only use sanitiser if I really have no alternative.

Isn't that what everyone does?

What I meant was I wouldn't use necessarily use sanitiser if I was shopping, I'd wait until I got home to wash my hands instead. I hate places that make you use their own sanitiser as well as I have no idea what's in it.
toolatetofixate · 06/03/2021 13:54

This thread is scary and reassuring at the same time. Glad to see so many people saying they don't disinfect their messages.

Oblomov21 · 06/03/2021 13:55

Never have. Ever. And not since Covid started.

Can't understand why anyone would be doing it, still, now. Unless they have chronic anxiety, in which case they should be talking to their GP, instead of wiping jars and disinfecting punnets of strawberries.

5zeds · 06/03/2021 13:57

We wash most things. It’s normal everywhere else in the world.

Mockolate · 06/03/2021 13:58

I'm not, each to their own but seems OTT and bit paranoid to me.

Mockolate · 06/03/2021 14:00

Oh bloody hell, didn't realise was a zombie from last year (I even looked at the date as well lol, didn't twig March 2020 was a YEAR ago, thought it meant now! Shock Grin
I haven't washed any of the shopping ever, did think "Gawd., people aren't STILL doing that, are they?!" Grin

pickingdaisies · 06/03/2021 14:01

Some threads just won't lay down and die! Troll reanimated thread to advertise home deliveries.
