I know a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet so I'm not trying to be insensitive - I'm not necessarily talking big purchases but if you are lucky enough to have financial security at the moment, what have you ordered to keep you busy?

I've ordered some make up products as before this I was training as a make up artist and want to practise different looks to keep myself in the game.
I also got a load of yarn so I can knit and some garden seeds to plant and veg stuff which I would have ordered regardless.

Oh and Disney plus, also hairdye and makeup, still do my makeup even if it is just for a walk around the block it is important to try maintain alittle normality at least!

blue25 · 28/03/2020 20:52

@MrsTumbletap Yes I signed up yesterday. It’s a groupon deal for 2 free months. Hope you find it.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 28/03/2020 20:57

Yarn, yarn and then some more yarn.....

It's getting embarrassing as I've run out of hiding places.

I am crocheting much more because all I do is go to work or spend time indoors but I have too much yarn!

WhereYouLeftIt · 28/03/2020 21:47

Nice slippers from Moshulu. ('Cause that's what I'm going to be mainly wearing for a while.)

nomdefuckit · 28/03/2020 22:07

Food and bog roll

Anything else is unnecessary and dangerous work for delivery drivers

wowfudge · 29/03/2020 09:11

Don't be so dramatic nomde - BBC Breakfast interviewed a GP this morning and they talked about postal deliveries. She advised disposing of the wrappers/packaging and washing your hands. Nothing else is needed. Providing a delivery driver doesn't touch their face after touching packages and keeps to social distancing norms there's very little risk to health.

nomdefuckit · 29/03/2020 09:35

@wowfudge

So we're wasting our time all staying in, are we?

The point is, it's more people out and about. That risks infection both to themselves sand others.

New curtains or whatever are not necessary

Bloody irresponsible

vinoandbrie · 29/03/2020 09:38

A subscription to Disney+!

aibutohavethisusername · 29/03/2020 10:21

My OH got Disney+ I’m watching Beauty & The Beast.

Bringringbring12 · 29/03/2020 10:28

@nomdefuckit

Need any help off your high horse?

It’s supporting businesses that are on their knees.
And as for the delivery guys.... new protocols means they knock, drop in door step, and then back 2 metres. So risk highly limited.

There needs to be a sense of perspective and you’re not going to find it on your high horse

nomdefuckit · 29/03/2020 10:32

Amazon is not on its knees

Nor is Hermes or DPD

Aberforthsgoat · 29/03/2020 11:19

One of our delivery guys said thanks for still
Ordering as he’s self employed and without orders wouldn’t have any work and wasn’t sure he would be covered by the government help either @nomdefuckit

I’m not saying this applies to everyone, but it IS a more complicated issue.

OP posts:
Bringringbring12 · 29/03/2020 11:23

Has anyone mentioned amazon?

Bringringbring12 · 29/03/2020 11:25

Going through the thread, the odd person mentions amazon but otherwise - no mention.
I have bought from hush and an online local shop for my coffee syrup

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 29/03/2020 11:32

I’ve been using amazon, the stock is very limited in lots of items but I’ve managed to get a few essential bits.

I plan to buy some jigsaws, puzzle books and more Lego to help pass time.

nomdefuckit · 29/03/2020 11:38

Any non-essential delivery is unethical at the moment

And I doubt that the vast majority are coming from small firms

But hey, whatever it takes to salve your conscious, including shooting the messenger

A thousand people dead and some still aren't taking it seriously, amazing!

Boobooboo84 · 29/03/2020 11:56

I can just imagine you @nomdefuckit

Trawling Mumsnet for threads that you can spread your positivity! Grin

nomdefuckit · 29/03/2020 12:06

Yeah, I'm just mean aren't I?

Ethics are such pesky things

wowfudge · 29/03/2020 12:20

It's not about ethics it's about being over-dramatic about the risks from deliveries of anything. They are much, much lower than from human contact. Fact is, the restrictions are to slow the spread of Covid 19, not eradicate it. Most of us will probably get it.

Aberforthsgoat · 29/03/2020 12:21

A lot of amazon delivery drivers are self employed
Again doesn’t excuse ordering lots of things but I’m just pointing out that they wouldn’t have work and are apparently not covered by the government assistance

I think people have looked at other countries, fully expect non essential orders to be stopped and therefore are ordering things to make social isolation a little easier especially if they have children of live alone. You only need to look at the likes of wilko and Argos and Hohn Lewis who have sold out of paint, outside toys and stationery etc.

The problem with this situation is that whatever we do we are damned really

Anyway I didn’t start this thread to start a argument. People are allowed to have their own opinions.

OP posts:
Aberforthsgoat · 29/03/2020 12:24

Also I don’t think it’s fair to say people aren’t taking it seriously because of this - they are ordering more BECAUSE they are staying in their homes.

I can see both sides of the argument tbh. And while I agree that ordering endless fun things is OTT, I can see the argument for wanting things to keep kids occupied and keeping the economy
Going. Although tbh I doubt a load of
Amazon orders are going to do that.

nomdefuckit · 29/03/2020 12:33

Self employed people are now covered.

There is no getting away from the fact that the less people we have on the streets the better.

We're shielding. Which means nobody leaves the house for three months.

Still ordering shite.

nomdefuckit · 29/03/2020 12:42

*still not ordering shite

wowfudge · 29/03/2020 12:43

Well that goes some way to explain your posts. Not every self-employed person is covered - very many aren't so that's a simplistic thing to say.

I'm not going to criticise anyone for what they buy, that's their business.

torthecatlady · 29/03/2020 12:43

I ordered some new bras, I don't think they'll get me through the pandemic Grin but on a cleaning spree (caused by isolation) I chucked out a couple of ropey looking ones Blush
