Tousled? As in tousled hair? I pronounce it "tussled" but I just heard someone on the radio say "towzled". How do you say it?

It would be normal to pronounce tow-suld as too-suld in Scotland. Think cow = coo, trousers = troosers, allowed = allood etc etc

I thought it was tussled as well! I don't actually think I've ever heard it said aloud though!

Born Londoner here so fuck knows what happened to me.

I had a big argument with my dad about this years ago; I said "tussled" and he laughed at me and said it was "towzled". I did some research into it 'because I'm pedantic like that and to my disgust it turned out he was right; it's towzled. It does come from a German word to scuffle/ fight which is where the word tussle - as in fight - comes from; so they come from the same word - if you think about tousled hair it kind of looks like it's been roughed up in a fight - but apparently it's supposed to be pronounce "towzle" which just sounds odd to me. But the fact is that if half the population say it one way and the other half the other then really, as language is a living, evolving thing, it must be acceptable to say either.

Tuh-sled for me.

Might be because I'm Welsh, everyone I know says it just like that to 😳

I have also been mispronouncing Blush

I would have said Two-zuld

I only recently realised I pronounce hyperbole totally wrong. I would say hyper-bowl but in fact it's hyper-bow-lay
