Tousled? As in tousled hair? I pronounce it "tussled" but I just heard someone on the radio say "towzled". How do you say it?

Oliversmumsarmy · 28/03/2020 08:32

Tussled and tousled are 2 different words with 2 different meanings

Lucked · 28/03/2020 08:33

Bojo1 · 28/03/2020 08:33

EricaNernie · 28/03/2020 08:35

EricaNernie · 28/03/2020 08:35

i read it outloud as Tossled

Doje · 28/03/2020 08:36

I always thought it was 'tow-zeld', but then my hairdresser called it 'tussled'! I giggled (inwardly) thinking he was being young and wrong, but then googled it later. Apparently it can be either way! 🤷‍♀️

GameSetMatch · 28/03/2020 08:38

Tooo-sul-D ... but I’m very northern so I expect I’m wrong 😂

LimpidPools · 28/03/2020 08:38

I suspect this is a regional variation, although I don't know for certain.

But I say towzled (And I'm from the SW.)

RingaRosie · 28/03/2020 08:41

Tussled. Never heard of towzeld...

Bluesheep8 · 28/03/2020 08:44

I know tousled and tussled are two different words with two different meanings but I pronounce them the same. The way I say it, only the context demonstrates what I mean. If you see what I mean

Two-zeld

This way here too!

Troels · 28/03/2020 08:51

I always read it as Tusseled.

playthestation · 28/03/2020 08:55

Two - seld

HollySideEyes · 28/03/2020 08:57

Another Tuss-elled vote.

MyCatTibby · 28/03/2020 09:01

Tussled

WestCovina · 28/03/2020 09:09

Too-suld here. From the south!

Bluesheep8 · 28/03/2020 09:09

Yay, more tusslers!

OP posts:
BreatheAndFocus · 28/03/2020 09:14

Tow-zuld (tow to rhyme with now)

Bluesheep8 · 28/03/2020 09:14

Maybe it's geographical. I grew up in both the west Midlands and east Yorkshire.

Towzuld. The hero in the teen romances I used to read when I was 11 or 12 always had tousled hair and a jumper that matched his eyes.Grin

goingtotown · 28/03/2020 09:22

Towel-Zeld

Thewheelsarefallingoff · 28/03/2020 09:26

Where did you get the extra L in the middle, @goingtotown?

goodwinter · 28/03/2020 09:37

Ooh, I'm in the minority - too-sul'd. Not sure I've ever really said it out loud before though..

Ellapaella · 28/03/2020 09:42

I would say too seld
