How to disinfect strawberries?

I bought them on impulse forgetting what was happening.

Sterilised everything I’d bought, but stuck on the strawberries. Can anyone help?

I think that actually consuming the virus would send it straight to your stomach acid where it would be destroyed. I just rinse as usual.

Our porch is all glass. The neighbours would have an interesting time if we were all stripping off at the door.

You would, wouldn't you. I might have pointed this out to my DH but the compote is so nice it's easier to let him crack on than argue the toss.
Blueberries, grapes simmered and then some vanilla, lemon juice and thickened slightly with a bit of cornflour. I'm glad he hit on that rather than thinking of bleach.

So this is why I've been struggling to get hold of Milton - which I need for its actual purpose of sterilising baby bottles. Clearly it's more important that adults have their sterilised strawberries.

This is hilarious!

I do wonder if ingesting bleach is more harmful than the soil/bacteria that can easily be washed off with water?
But seriously OP you sound like your anxiety is through the roof and that is not a fun way to live. You may have a vulnerable person living with you and that must be scary but you have to also take care of youe mental health too! As a PP we will all get the virus but were just slowing the rate of the transmission so the NHS can cope.

PineappleDanish · 27/03/2020 22:37

I'm pretty sure a bottle of bleach isn't for drinking. Bleaching your food is just horrible and a real indication that someone's not coping.

And all my colleagues who are in schools go straight home to do this, Every one of them
No, they really don't.

The thing with the letters is just nuts (not that disinfecting strawberries isn't)

In addition to thoroughly washing strawberries in a sieve under cold water, putting them in a solution of water and vinegar for 20minutes, then rinsing thoroughly, will sterilise. Lemon juice is also a sterilising agent.
