How to disinfect strawberries?

I bought them on impulse forgetting what was happening.

Sterilised everything I’d bought, but stuck on the strawberries. Can anyone help?

No I’m not joking. I wash everything that comes through the door!

Letters I pick up with gloves and put outside as the virus degrades in sunlight. I do the same with anything else not easily washable. Leave them out for about 24 hours and turn them once.

I wash all food.

If I’ve been to work, I strip off at the door, clothes in a plastic bag, and straight into a shower turned on by someone else.

Most people l know are like this. And I’ve never ever been a clean freak!

Corona is not a food-borne disease; you can't catch it from "eating" droplets containing the virus.

You don't need to sterilise food. Not sure how you even do that.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 27/03/2020 15:25

But if someone with it has handled fruit then you could catch it.

Like the idea of finding them in gin!

Seems a lot of effort OP. Couldn't you just open the post and then wash your hands?

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 27/03/2020 15:30

Well just put them outside in the sunshine then. Bonkers.

No; they’re really not. Don’t disinfect your strawberries. Or any other food for that matter. Just east them.

GrumpyHoonMain · 27/03/2020 15:32

Are they fresh strawberries? If so soak in salt water for a few hours to get rid of worms and spiders

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/03/2020 15:36

Milton ShockShockThey'd taste awful! I'm just rinsing them as normal, maybe slightly more thoroughly.

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/03/2020 15:36

And I don't know anyone disinfecting their fresh fruit and veg!! Maybe I'm in the wrong circles Grin

Thankfully no-one I know is like this. Just wash them and eat them.

Where do you work??

ShirleyPhallus · 27/03/2020 15:41

I don’t think you’re doing enough. I have a bath tub filled with bleach solution outside the front door I soak in for 2+ hours every time I come in the house. I then burn my clothes just to be sure.

qweryuiop · 27/03/2020 15:42

Just eat the strawberries. Yes, there's a miniscule chance you'll get the virus from these strawberries. There's a much higher chance you'll have got it from the supermarket, or a run, or work. This is all about risk reduction. The risk reduction from sterilising strawberries is ridiculously small, unless you're living in a bubble and only eating strawberries.

minipie · 27/03/2020 15:45

You know most of us are going to get the virus at some point right? It’s just a question of when.

dementedpixie · 27/03/2020 15:46

I rinse under water before use. I'm not bleaching my fruit and veg or anything else

IntermittentParps · 27/03/2020 15:48

I'm not wiping door handles or anything. Should I be?

wowfudge · 27/03/2020 15:55

Wow - I must have missed Boris's grocery decontamination instructions. And there was I, merrily staying at home and only venturing out once a day for exercise whilst practising social distancing. Mind you, seems Boris and Nick weren't as careful as they should have been.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 27/03/2020 15:57

Actually Shirley, the advice about that came from an anaesthetic consultant and was aimed at teachers who are currently in school at the moment.

And all my colleagues who are in schools go straight home to do this, Every one of them

OP posts:
wowfudge · 27/03/2020 15:59

I bet they don't.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 27/03/2020 15:59

I let the dogs lick them first and if nothing happens to them then it's safe to eat.

Parker231 · 27/03/2020 16:00

I’m doing more hand washing and using gel sanitizer but not heard of anyone treating their post or clothes any different.

tiredanddangerous · 27/03/2020 16:01

This has picked me right up out of my bad mood. Thanks op.

Yes, they clearly didn't bleach their strawberries.
