Hercule Poirot/Miss Lemon/Captain Hastings

I’m sorry, I feel like I’ve hogged threads today - this is the third one I’ve started I think. Too much time on my hands.

Anyway - watching an episode of Poirot where he falls in love with a Russian Countess. Miss Lemon and Captain Hastings are perturbed!

Does Miss Lemon secretly love Poirot? I don’t think they’d be suitable really, they’d drive each other up the wall. But Miss Lemon and Captain Hastings could make a go of it I think. They’d be good company for each other.

What does anyone else think?

Miss Lemon is not the right woman for Captain Hastings. She is practical, he needs a woman to rescue and look after (well try too). He does like a redhead though. I don't she's the right social class either.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2020 20:02

I saw that quite recently. I thought they were just perturbed because falling for a woman was such an unPoiroitlike thing to do.

Grabbner · 26/03/2020 20:11

Dis good points - Captain Hastings does like a damsel in distress doesn’t he? I don’t think they’d be a love match, but they’d rub along well enough.

Errol yes I think you’re right, that’s why they were perturbed. But Miss Lemon looked tearful and couldn’t answer Captain Hastings when he asked her what she’d do if Poirot got married.

Just remembered Miss Lemon getting very cross with Captain Hastings for messing up her filing system. Perhaps not such a good match after all.

Inspector Japp and Miss Lemon might’ve got on if Mrs Japp hadn’t got there first!

Gosh, my life is thrilling!

I've just been watching this with my mum! It took us ages to realise we'd seen it before - shows how much notice we take. Japp and Hastings are so useless - I would've liked a bigger challenge for Poirot.

Clawdy · 26/03/2020 20:15

Miss Lemon in the books is totally different. She's a rather grim, incredibly efficient secretary who slightly intimidates Poirot and Hastings, and she rarely gets involved personally in any case. She really annoyed me in the tv series!

Duchessofblandings · 26/03/2020 20:17

I’m intrigued by her kiss-curls. They seem far too frivolous for such a starchy lady. Hinting at what lies beneath? 😁

DwayneBenzie · 26/03/2020 20:18

Read the books ?

topcat2014 · 26/03/2020 20:18

I love the theme tune, and have the piano music..

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/03/2020 20:26

I think Miss Lemon on the TV series intimidates them both.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 26/03/2020 20:26

Hastings is married in the books. ☺️

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/03/2020 20:28

He gets married on the TV programme, to someone from Death on the Links.

DeborahAnnabelToo · 26/03/2020 20:31

Captain Hastings has 2 lines in most Poirot episodes:
"I say! What a honey/beauty!"
And
"I say! What a rotter!"
He is really the original Tim NiceButDim.
Op, your thread title makes me think that they should just have a threesome.

Grabbner · 26/03/2020 20:55

I have read the books but a long time ago.

Another one of Captain Hastings’ favourite lines is .

Deborah I don’t think Miss Lemon does sex! Not too sure about Poirot either :)

Oh yes Duchess her kiss curls are something else. Maybe I can pass time during lockdown trying to style my hair like that.

Still living the life here and watching Poirot :). I am drinking gin if that makes me more rock n roll!

Anyway - very often they use a beautiful Art Deco house in the series. Does anyone know where this is?

OP posts:
Stellamboscha · 06/04/2020 19:17

Don't know where this one is, but a friend in Scotland had her bathroom remodelled as 1930s as location for one episode!

Susay · 06/04/2020 19:21

Oh that’s exciting Stella! What did her bathroom look like?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/04/2020 19:31

I too am fascinated by Miss Lemon's curls. My hair would be curly if I let it but never, ever that neat.

I like Japp, he and Poirot have a nice relationship even though they're complete opposites. Hastings is just bumbling along and enjoying life. He's too harmless to be a letch but he does have an eye for the ladies.

Grabbner · 06/04/2020 19:37

Yes I’m strangely fond of Hastings too. He’s one of life’s innocents I feel

OP posts:
Toilenstripes · 06/04/2020 19:38

Hastings marries a beautiful and exotic South American, iirc.

Toilenstripes · 06/04/2020 19:39

He’s a lovely gentleman.

Cheeryandmerry · 06/04/2020 19:42

“Miss Limon” is far too clever for hopeless old duffer “Captain ‘astings.”

OytheBumbler · 06/04/2020 19:55

I like a bit of Poirot. Where are you watching it?

simonisnotme · 06/04/2020 19:58

dont forget Hasting's 'good lord' or 'good heavens' Grin
