Have you aged ten years overnight on a supermarket website?
Are you sticking to the 'two sheets' rule?
Have you had it with singing celebrities?
Are you yearning for what we will now call The Before Times?

If you've answered yes to any of the above, here's where you come to post threads about Naice Things - like ham and cats. Where The Virus That Must Not Be Named (TVTMNBM) is off-limits.

We'll do our best to keep the corona-free zone moderated - you do your best to chill out and gather strength. Flowers Brew

Keep using the normal boards for normal stuff, but here's where to come if you need a break. We're hoping everyone will see the value of having somewhere to get away from it all.

Thanks,
MNHQ

...like ham and cats.

Not in the same sandwich, thanks.

Indigo many congrats! Exciting times!

I've just had homemade carrot soup, it was yum. I don't normally like carrot soup but this had a bit of a kick to it, (BBC recipe, spiced carrot soup)

I'm going to be as round as a bowling ball by the time all this finishes... Shock

Genderwitched · 26/03/2020 13:38

I keep googling pictures of Venice and the beautiful clear canals. They just make me really happy.

It was gentle spicy and not too sweet. I did add a splash of cream once I'd liquidised it, and I didn't bother and sieve it. Here's the recipe...

Oh and I didn't bother with the boquet garni either..

Dh pruned our cherry trees rather hard last year and I was v. worried they were dead but in the last few days they are sprouting blossom in abundance. Hopefully plenty of fruit this year. And our lovely neighbours left eggs and a little peach tree on the drive for us.

theoriginalmadambee · 26/03/2020 13:56

Thanks roussette will try it Smile.

I'm loving the Venice photos.
We went there for our Silver Wedding Anniversary, spent a few days there (stayed on the Lido) and then got a train to Rome for another few days.
Lovely memories

Jesusisking · 26/03/2020 14:59

Lovely picture 👍

This thread is like a breath of fresh air.
Ive just made tomato, pepper and carrot soup. Have added lentils for protein . It makes such a difference which tinned tomatoes go in it . I bought Sainsbury’s own but with basil in by mistake. The soup wasn’t very nice . This time I could only find the posh Napolina ones and this batch tastes in a different league.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 26/03/2020 15:42

@SnakePlant I agree! Many things can be substituted with cheaper versions, but tinned tomatoes is not one of them. I absolutely insist on Napolina ones, but am having to relax my standards a bit at present

Mc3209 · 26/03/2020 16:01

Oh yes!
I am making bread. The last loaf I made few days ago was the chewiest bread on the planet. Hopefully this one will be more palatable!

ItsLeviOsanotLeviosA · 26/03/2020 16:04

I’ve started a knitting project which I’ve been prevaricating over for months. I’m a novice, but it’s so relaxing.

Frenchw1fe · 26/03/2020 16:15

And I’m still making bunting for my dd’s wedding which may or may not happen in June.

theoriginalmadambee · 26/03/2020 16:20

Mc3209 have you tried slow rising no knead bread? it is so delicious Smile.

DustyMaiden · 26/03/2020 16:28

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

I can see you are a covert rule breaker.

MinnieMountain · 26/03/2020 16:43

I got the sleeper train from Paris to Venice and back last November. It was very cosy. I was given breadsticks and prosecco each night, which I consumed as we left the station. Also lovely to eat breakfast rattling through the Italian countryside.

LefttoherownDevizes · 26/03/2020 16:50

Minnie mountain that brings back lovely memories of childhood holidays. We would get the ferry over to Boulogne and then drive (literally 5 mins) straight onto the train. We would then board the couchettes, eat our picnic and then go to sleep (using evian to brush our teeth, so exotic) waking up in S France or Italy.

We tried the auto train with the DCs a few years ago but not the same. Firstly your car goes on a different train, secondly you have to drive into the middle of Paris to get to the station (literally, next to Gare de Lyon) and it didn't leave until 10-30 at night so none of the fun train picnic.

Thanks for the memory
