Not trying to show off but my DS loves drawing cartoons and I wondered if he’d good for his age?

I know these types of posts irritate people but it’s just a bit of a distraction from all the shit.

DS has been doodling today, i think he’s really good but then I would cause I’m his mum 😄

I’m guessing drawing ability is age-related so how old do you think he is?

A school friend was a cartoon doodler all her life. She went in to do a degree in animation and now draws as a career. I think your son shows promise.

My 9 year old has no interest in art whatsoever but his younger brother enjoys it and is moderately good. I was always rubbish.

It's on the wall and the trees just follow you!

Thisismytimetoshine · 21/03/2020 21:38

He’s extremely talented, op. Ignore everyone saying it would be as expected for a 12 year old. It wouldn’t; only very talented ones.

sociallydistained · 21/03/2020 21:39

Aww love this. It is certainly a talent and a brilliant hobby to have.

OmnibusOwl · 21/03/2020 21:40

These are great! He’s very good, wish I could draw like that and I’ve got nearly 20 years on him.

BillysMyBunny · 21/03/2020 21:40

I thought he was going to be secondary school age and would have said they were good. Brilliant for 9!

Russell19 · 21/03/2020 21:41

I absolutely love his drawings OP! You must continue to encourage this talent. He is gifted.

Supersimkin2 · 21/03/2020 21:41

He's bloody good. Well done, DS.

TheVanguardSix · 21/03/2020 21:41

OP, your son is brilliant! Really, well done! He is very gifted.
His drawings remind me of Gergely Dudas, a Hungarian illustrator who makes these sort of 'Where's Wally' type books on hidden things.

CornforthWhite · 21/03/2020 21:42

He has talent. Fantastic drawings. I would have guessed 16+

Pteuropa · 21/03/2020 21:43

I've been searching my photo reel but struggle to find stuff. This is age 11 so a bit older.

She said the other day Oh there's something in my head and I keep meaning to draw it. She hasn't and I said is it still there? Oh Yes! But so far it hasn't appeared.

I have given her
Pencils in all the soft and hard stuff
Pastels
Charcoal pencils
Decent colour pencils £50 and that was fun to research
Some acrylics
Art paper - easily available and Tiger is pretty good

Her favourite is a simple 2B pencil.

That’s incredible!

Now ds has never done a drawing like that, he’s never sketched anything, he just goes straight in with a pen. I wish I knew more about art-there’s probably a name for different drawing styles.

I’m hoping when he gets to secondary school he might get a good art teacher who could help encourage him.

To follow - there's a parent part of me that knows she's really good. The proud surprised part that is overwhelmed by my child
The bit that made you put his pic here ! The bit we don't quite 'get' yet we think it's parental love and pride and a bit over doting..... so we can't really figure out is it good or am I just one of those mums

School don't seem to realise. She's quiet and under the radar.

I actually moved house for her because local comps had no art as a strong base in their schools. Her school has a choice of 6 arty GCSE including Fine Art, Textiles, Photography.
She doesn't draw in a routine but she is certain to study it at GCSE

WorraLiberty · 21/03/2020 21:58

Absolutely brilliant OP

And usercheeselover's DC too.

Lynda07 · 21/03/2020 21:58

That's great! I can't guess how old he is but I would think definitely over eleven.

usercheeselover · 21/03/2020 22:01

I can't get her away from the 2B pencil.....

He found a pen - so just make sure the pen is always there ! Maybe like my Dd it will be his fall back - the best pieces will fall from his hand and a black fine liner.

I think secondary is good for the exposure to stuff such as acrylic or ink. But talent will shine so make sure he knows it's good so he keeps exploring it

usercheeselover · 21/03/2020 22:03

Age 11 2B pencil

usercheeselover · 21/03/2020 22:07

Dd is approaching 13

There has been a slowing of Art output - probably just teenage growth spurt.

Just show him off to trusted people in the family and slowly build the confidence.

Who knows where they will end up.

To answer you?

Yep. He's bloody amazing. Yep, despite your wobbly is it because I'm his mum or is he got some talent? Hell yeah! TALENTED!

triedandtestedteacher · 21/03/2020 22:18

Wow all the different expressions! I think he's superb

JamesNesbittsBrows · 21/03/2020 22:22

Really good. I couldn't do that as an adult.

TurnOffTheTv · 21/03/2020 22:25

Send it off to Blue Peter for a badge, it’s amazing.
