Not trying to show off but my DS loves drawing cartoons and I wondered if he’d good for his age?

I know these types of posts irritate people but it’s just a bit of a distraction from all the shit.

DS has been doodling today, i think he’s really good but then I would cause I’m his mum 😄

I’m guessing drawing ability is age-related so how old do you think he is?

He's talented. Why not get him to do an online comic that he can send to his friends?Who knows where it may lead...

Lobsterquadrille2 · 21/03/2020 19:47

I can't draw at all and think it's amazing - most of all I really like all the positive responses on here! I've seen children's drawings before (not this good!) and posters have said things like, my child was doing better than this while still in nappies. 😀

ThePurpleMoose · 21/03/2020 19:47

Is he a fan of Heinz Edelmann?

Oblomov20 · 21/03/2020 19:53

I like them. Whatever his age!

Emmmie · 21/03/2020 20:08

I like the cartoon! He is really good and I hope he knows that 🙂

Really reminds me of doodle boy. Did you see the article about him decorating the wall of a restaurant? Your DS might be inspired/encouraged by him. Can you do him an Instagram page that you administer and tightly control so he can show off his creations?

God I love his picture op - it could be by a professional artist imo (I worked with artists for a couple of years).

I'd have it up on my wall - I love the way they are all squashed and forced to interact but they are all different.

Brilliant!

mochajoes · 21/03/2020 20:21

I would have said 14! & I'm pretty good at art myself.

MyDcAreMarvel · 21/03/2020 20:22

He is really good.

mochajoes · 21/03/2020 20:25

Only on MNs would people say 8, look at all the different expressions & it's very distinctive!

mochajoes · 21/03/2020 20:26

My child was mucking about with his maths homework & did this. Is this complex for his age?

MN: nah, my 3 yr old does that.

It's amazing

willowpatterns · 21/03/2020 20:39

That's fab - can you get him to do a cat one?! Smile

Aquamarine1029 · 21/03/2020 20:44

What a talented boy! You should have him design his own line of cards.

usercheeselover · 21/03/2020 20:50

Totally get you OP
My DD can draw. She actually doesn't do it very often - brief flashes of wonderful. I was going to share her pics for your post but I won't!

I have zero drawing art talent. I'm creative but that's different from putting pen to paper. My DD seems to be able to copy remarkably well so if he came up with the concept, then he's simply brilliant.

Pteuropa · 21/03/2020 20:53

Thanks so much everyone. Thanks for the links and suggestions to encourage him. I’m really clueless about art and he’s had no inspiration from school, I understand they tend to focus on academia these days.

I’ll suggest trying a cartoon strip to him. He’s hit and miss with it though. Sometimes he’ll try and draw and he’ll throw away so much paper, it’s like he gets a block and then gets frustrated and gives up. Other times it just flows out of the pen. Like that drawing he just sat for an hour, didn’t break from it other than to pull a few faces in the mirror to copy.

He’s going to colour it in tomorrow (if he’s new markers arrive).

I’ve kept all his drawings from when he was around 2 years old. He used to love drawing pregnant dinosaurs 😆 (he was dinosaur obsessed and a few family members were expecting around that time) and I thought he was good then.

usercheeselover please share, I’d love to see them and anyone else’s too. Anything to bring a bit more light back into our lives!

Don't send his stuff off willy-nilly to magazines or publishers and the like, without getting advice from a professional illustrator first. Copyright and all that. He is seriously good.

Lovebug06 · 21/03/2020 21:10

Brilliant

Jayneisagirlsname · 21/03/2020 21:13

I agree with PP who said they'd love to colour it in! It's a great drawing, so skilled - what a talent!

Lurleene · 21/03/2020 21:14

Fab - technically well done and so imaginative, he is a talented boy Star

TootsieTweets · 21/03/2020 21:19

They are great, I really like them Star

Pteuropa · 21/03/2020 21:27

Thanks again everyone, I wasn’t expecting so many replies and they’re all so lovely!

This is a funny one, he drew it when he was 7. It’s of his uncle, we’d had a family bbq and he’d got a bit merry (I’ve scribbled our the captions which had his name on)

He def has an eye.

I also understand that you are witnessing a frustration in the young artist that he isn't even aware of.

Sometimes, DD just flows and it's instant, fast and accurate. Her best stuff comes this way. Other times is half scribbles and abandoned nothing's.

If there any actual artists that think this is normal - please pile in!

It's odd having an artistic child when it doesn't appear to run in the family.
