Would you have a takeaway at the moment?

Some people are saying they'll do this but I can't help thinking it's just another unnecessary risk.

No . Anybody could sneeze all over it .

leckford · 20/03/2020 15:06

We have some nice pubs/restaurants around us, we are getting a takeaway tonight from our favourite place just a husband and wife team as we want to help them keep going. Just popping in the door and then home. We will do the same next week to help our local pub survive

MajesticWhine · 20/03/2020 15:06

I will carry on having take away as long as they are on offer. I see it as fairly low risk. Person to person transmission is far more risky than this, is my guess.

Notredamn · 20/03/2020 15:07

Really fancy a takeaway now! I don't see the point in hanging food left on the doorstep though apart from the fact it makes a sort of visual no-contact point. The virus would be all over the bag.

moondance19 · 20/03/2020 15:07

Yes we have Chinese regularly, there’s only one near us and they’re such lovely people. I’d hate them to have to close because of this virus.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/03/2020 15:07

I would want to buy it, leave in the fridge and recook the following day. This to me would ensure no contamination.

Well in that case, goodluck. You are probably more like to die of food poisoning.

Notredamn · 20/03/2020 15:07

Having* food not hanging 😂

GatoradeMeBitch · 20/03/2020 15:07

a nice and warm temperature for the virus

Well, most takeaway food is hot - when it leaves the premises at least and then I suppose it depends how far away you are. This virus is doing perfectly well spreading in the cold. I would be less suspicious of hot food and drinks, not more...

Figgygal · 20/03/2020 15:08

Yes we going to get one tonight too

Twinkletoes888 · 20/03/2020 15:09

Yes had the biggest dirtiest kebab followed by absolutely rotten gut ache as I usually eat mostly clean but it was lovely.

I also been going to my little local shops and my coffee house instead my usual big chain as they need my cash more I got a bad coffee habit

GatoradeMeBitch · 20/03/2020 15:10

I suppose the contactless part is mainly to protect the drivers from coming into contact with a lot of people. Social distancing. You do get fairly close when taking something from someone on the doorstep. I think it's a sensible measure.

Then you take the container in, open it, wash your hands then plate your food up.

And now I want pizza... Maybe on Sunday, seeing as how my special day has effectively been cancelled Grin

salutationstou · 20/03/2020 15:11

No contact delivery? Was it non-contact prepared?
Seriously?
No way!

caperplips · 20/03/2020 15:12

No we're not. I was really tempted on Wednesday evening but we talked about it and once the reality of other people touching & coughing over the cooked food and the containers it lost its appeal so we cooked instead.

I know people are saying others can touch what's in the supermarket too but it seems less of a risk to us right now. DH has been to the supermarket and bought our food, it has all mainly been in packages or tins etc - I can't think of anything he's bought unwrapped such as fruit or veg and they are mostly peeled or cooked.

He wears gloves in the shop and antibacs his hands before and after the shop and also the steering wheel and keys and handle etc.

We put the shopping away and wash hands immediately.

We use older tins first so by the time we're using the beans or whatever the virus should have died. It's still a risk, I know that, but it is still a lesser risk IMO.

I couldn't have someone make a pizza for me for instance, at the moment! Too much handling of the food

Bioprepper · 20/03/2020 15:13

No I don’t know who’s touched the bags, boxes containers etc. Have they washed their hands? Who’s prepared it have they coughed on a surface or again not washed their hands? Did the driver sneeze in the car on my bag/drinks etc?

Just no

CinderellasSecrets · 20/03/2020 15:13

Contactless delivery is to protect the driver - if you are self isolating because you are sick the driver doesn't want to catch it.

Morgan12 · 20/03/2020 15:13

We get takeaways weekly. Sometimes twice. But theres just a niggle at the back of my head.

We had a Chinese last week and I couldn't enjoy it because I kept thinking of the people who prepared it. Did they wash their hands enough etc.

So no point in me wasting the money just now when I'm not enjoying them.

isabellerossignol · 20/03/2020 15:16

Anybody could sneeze all over it

Anyone could sneeze all over anything. Including supermarket home delivery. Or the outside of a bottle of hand sanitiser before you buy it (well, that's theoretical I suppose, since there is none on sale these days).

Anyway, the point is that if we all lived our lives worrying about who has touched things or breathed on them, we couldn't live normally at all. That's why actual OCD is a debilitating illness and not just 'liking things to be clean'.

Everyone is free to make their own judgement as to whether they buy a takeaway obviously, but logically it doesn't seem any riskier than buying anything else.

PeterPanGoesWrong · 20/03/2020 15:17

Dh has a dicky ticker, I have diabetes. No Friday night takeaway in this house tonight. I really don’t want to lose him.

happypotamus · 20/03/2020 15:18

Now I really want a take-away. Maybe I will suggest it as a Mother's Day thing. DC will agree, I'm sure. Seriously, I don't think there is a significant risk from take-aways. Also, I am a nurse, who has to get the bus to work (until there aren't buses anymore) and my DC will still have to go to school, so the risk from a take-away is going to be minimal compared to the risk of my day-to-day life.

Froq · 20/03/2020 15:19

I'm not eating envelopes and food packaging.

We might be soon.

PertEllaTitsahoy · 20/03/2020 15:22

I'm not concerned about getting the virus, my concern is passing it on to a vulnerable person.

Having food delivered wont increase the chance of me passing the virus on 🤷‍♀️

Scruffyoak · 20/03/2020 15:22

Going to get one tonight to celebrate sons end of school now. Feel bad I had planned to do a meal but everything got moved. Just gonna let him have a takeout here while we socially distance lol

Lynda07 · 20/03/2020 15:22

Yes, it hasn't occurred to me not to - the food will be prepared hygienically, I can shove it onto plates, dispose of packaging and wash hands. What's the problem? I was thinking of having one tonight but decided I have enough food at the moment, might have one tomorrow. I have just had an order of a few things from local BP garage which is useful but everything is in packets, jars or bottles so no problem - not a takeaway as such but I did order through Deliveroo.

WhatHaveIFound · 20/03/2020 15:23

No, because i'm self employed with no work at the moment. A takeaway is loads more expensive and probably less healthy than cooking at home.

Kelsoooo · 20/03/2020 15:23

We would 100%

Still getting royal mail deliveries who, bless him, had to pass me a parcel earlier and looked very alarmed to see me and DH home ☹️ he put it on the top of DHs car in the end.
