Oh my gosh these are so cute! I've got a viola and a chili pepper so far apparently. Anyone else collecting/bothering to grow theirs?

Chilli seeds need warmth to germinate. I put them in the airing cupboard wrapped in damp kitchen roll, inside a plastic bag until they sprout, then put them in soil. They're easy plants to care for once sprouted, but they need lots of light.

Chewbecca · 10/04/2020 10:54

bringmesunshine you actually have a carrot? Is it teeny tiny?

Drogonssmile · 11/04/2020 09:38

This is DS1's parsley. DS2's forget me not is a bit behind and only tiny shoots at the moment.

That look good, even got curly bits!

morecoffeerequired · 13/04/2020 17:41

I now have 5 little chilli seedlings Smile

DelurkingAJ · 13/04/2020 17:52

Four chillis here now which I have transplanted to two larger pots as they were pushing roots out the sides. Hurray!

Allhallowseve · 14/04/2020 07:34

Love reading all these updates. I have planted a chilli and parsley and have forget me not, basil, and lettuce to plant will update !

Petiolaris · 14/04/2020 07:55

A lot of people will be disappointed with these kits. Chillies and peppers need heat to germinate - I’ve never been successful unless they’re in a heated propagator. Basil is also tricky, it likes to be hot and wet. Carrots are prone to pests and will probably get eaten. Kids are more likely to have success with the forget me nots and cress etc. It’s fairly obvious what whoever invented these kits isn’t a gardener, otherwise they would have picked easy to grow seeds!

Vinorosso74 · 14/04/2020 07:59

Nothing from the pepper. I repotted the lettuce yesterday-one of the three doesn't look do healthy.

Allhallowseve · 14/04/2020 08:18

I think I will try my other chilli in heat as pp said . I love to grow things but am never particularly successful tbh . I think for free these little kits are a bit of fun and something to do .

APurpleSquirrel · 14/04/2020 13:37

I went to M&S yesterday & spent enough to get one, but the cashier said I could have 6!
So down them all this morning.
Our peppers from the original two are doing great - south facing window sill.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 14/04/2020 13:43

I have one tiny shoot in the basil but nothing in the others.
Dd loaf interest ages ago but then she 14 and more interested in make up at the moment.
I had high hopes and really wanted some good shoots to replant in the garden.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 14/04/2020 13:43

Lost not load

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 14/04/2020 13:43

Or loaf even!!

Horsemad · 23/04/2020 15:26

Smile Just found this thread, how's everyone doing? I also planted some M&S Little Garden seeds. We had lettuce (x2 pots) and basil. DH has stuck some rosemary cuttings in the pots too!

Think I started around the end of March with these.

I started my parsley Easter weekend but nothing yet... i'm not very green fingered though so I suspect i've killed it before it's had chance to live :(

petalpower · 23/04/2020 16:40

My seeds (6 types) did nothing and I ended up throwing them out yesterday. Everything else in my greenhouse is growing like mad so I must have just been unlucky.

Horsemad · 23/04/2020 16:46

Oh fingers crossed that yours do eventually germinate @samlh! 🙂

Shame you had none out of all the ones you had @petalpower. Maybe a duff batch?

I'm just wondering how big the lettuce will get before I harvest them? I guess they're a miniature type? 🤔 Can't remember what the name of them was...

petalpower · 23/04/2020 17:36

Did you plant yours in larger pots Horsemad? Maybe mine didn’t like the teeny tiny fibre pots they came with. I didn’t get all the seeds at the same time - they were over two or three M and S trips.

Horsemad · 23/04/2020 17:54

I started mine off in the pots they arrived in and then moved them over to larger pots last weekend, which was about 3.5 wks after planting.

The small pots did dry out quickly I found.

lachy · 23/04/2020 17:58

I love them. We've got about 8 pots and I'm so proud of the fact that they are growing!

I was intending on giving them to my parents to plant at their allotment, but goodness knows when I'll see them again. I'll just have to cross my fingers that I can nurture them and then reap the harvest Grin

Horsemad · 23/04/2020 18:43

What have you got @lachy?

APurpleSquirrel · 23/04/2020 19:02

These are ours - must be about 4wks or so for the two at the front & 2wks for the 6 at the back? Something growing in each.

I've got the lot and a month on the only one that didn't work was the chili. They need loads of water every day.

Loving my miniature allotment!

M&S are giving them away by the fistful at the tills now, you don't need to spend £20.

petalpower · 23/04/2020 19:28

No chance of getting to M and S now Sad
