Pasta
Baked beans
Toilet roll
Kitchen roll
Water
Chocolate fingers
This was the same yesterday when I went to a local shop.
Anyone else seem to live in an area where no one is bothered enough to stock pile? Plus I wonder why some places seem to have more shortages than others?

I bet they didn't have hand sanitizer OP.

collywobblescar · 09/03/2020 21:09

@BendingSpoons I had this to! Nothing to add other than wasn't that fussed on normal ones. I wanted bunny ones

Conrad79 · 09/03/2020 21:09

salted caramel hot cross buns Shock yum!

You do realise it's an irregular verb?

I make prudent provision
You're some kind of "prepper"
She is a sociopathic panic buyer

I went to Aldi today (London). Busier than usual for the time of day and everyone had a large pack of toilet roll in their trolly or were carrying them around. I thought it was crazy. I did actually need toilet roll but just bought a 4 pack of the nicer quilted stuff as that's what I usually buy. There was a fair amount on the shelf,
No spaghetti I noticed but there were other types of pasta and queueing at the checkout they had about 10 hand gels so I grabbed a couple for 49p each!

IndecentFeminist · 09/03/2020 21:26

Aldi has shown no real issues here, slightly fewer loo rolls, eggs and soap but everything else fine. No sanitiser by the check outs, not sure if elsewhere.

Asda had no loo roll, antibac, soap, pasta, beans, paracetamol etc yesterday.

We live on an island, only one case here so for.

redeyetonowheregood · 09/03/2020 21:27

Waitrose in my little corner if Norfolk was absolutely fine...except for red lentils, which were all gone.

LightAsTheBreeze · 09/03/2020 21:32

I saw somewhere that because toilet roll is bulky but fairly low value, shops don’t stock loads at a time because of space, also as it takes up a lot of shelf space it’s very obvious when it’s gone.

boredboredboredboredbored · 09/03/2020 21:41

Friday last week all was normal when I popped into my local Tesco. This morning by midday no loo rolls, no pasta, no chopped tomatoes. Lots of soup sold out, it was rammed too like Christmas week. Felt quite strange actually as you could almost feel the tension!

Vintagehearts · 09/03/2020 21:43

My local one stop has everything in stock, including 24 packs of toilet roll. Whereas the local supermarkets have been stripped bare of toilet roll and other essentials. Wierd.

tiredanddangerous · 09/03/2020 21:47

Just looked on my tesco app. No loo roll, no hand gel or liquid soap, and no pasta or rice.

PontiacBandit · 09/03/2020 21:47

Some of these supermarkets are raking it in now with panic buying. A media frenzy leading to an economy boost?

Longdistance · 09/03/2020 21:47

I went to Lidl on Saturday. They only had the expensive eggs, organic free range eggs from lentil weaving chickens.
The fridges looked sparse of ham.
Managed to veg kitchen roll and saw gaps where the liquid soap is.

CandiceSucksCandy · 09/03/2020 21:51

My tesco app has loo roll and hand soap but no pasta. My delivery is due on wednesday.
Does covid 19 travel in pasta? Has all the pasta been quarantined or does covid 19 make you crave a good pasta bake or something?
I really hope the loo roll arrives, we are down to our last two rolls.

YgritteSnow · 09/03/2020 21:52

All shops I have been to have everything except hand gel and anti bacterial kitchen wipes.

willowpatterns · 09/03/2020 21:55

It won't be long before all the panic buyers have a houseful and no room for more (I reckon about 2 more days), and all this madness will stop.

Don't know whether any local shops have run out of hand sanitiser - I've no idea which shelves they normally keep it on as I never buy the stuff.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/03/2020 22:01

my bunny shaped crumpets were substituted for normal crumpets

You can get bunny-shaped crumpets?

FlamingoAndJohn · 09/03/2020 22:03

Our supermarket has no toilet roll APART from multi packs of coloured rolls. Apparently people would rather use old socks than pastel green or ‘champagne’

You can still buy coloured rolls? Who does that?

I was in Aldi and there was lots of 4 packs of loo roll but not much choice. Some liquid soap too.

simonisnotme · 09/03/2020 22:04

no loo rolls, hand wash or pasta in asda this afternoon
and no surgical spirit in the chemist either

Gertie75 · 09/03/2020 22:09

Our local Morrisons had shelves full of toilet roll and big displays of it at the end of the aisles, I only saw a handful of people with any in their trolley.
Plenty of paracetamol and other painkillers too.

jaded247 · 09/03/2020 22:10

I'm sure if we all go to the supermarkets once the shops open at 9am we'll find what we're looking for. Some shops have started putting limits on items for fairness.

My mum went to the local grocery shop today and the shopkeeper had told her that items will be going up in double the price because of shortage of supply and more demand. I do think people are profiting from this coronavirus outbreak.

Shelves are being emptied because people are selling antibacterial gel on eBay for around £30 ... absolutely ridiculous! Don't people realise that we all need to wash our hands for the virus to be kept at bay 🙄

BackforGood · 09/03/2020 22:18

All normal on my shop this morning, too @Whatevah

usuredo · 09/03/2020 22:27

I shop online with Tesco.
Absolutely no dry pasta in stock and obviously no hand gel.
Was able to get everything else fine though, certain brands of loo roll all sold out but others to choose from.

mastertomsmum · 09/03/2020 22:31

There was panic on Facebook on Thursday about local supermarkets not having any loo paper. The same evening the small Tesco local and equiv small Waitrose had loads

Florencenotflo · 09/03/2020 22:57

See.. DH used to moan at me about my tiny bottles of hand gel always laying around. There is one in nearly every cupboard, drawer, handbag, car door pocket. Not for any particular reason apart from they are handy!

My Tesco here wasn't too bad. No pasta which is slightly alarming as it is pretty much Dd1's favourite food. I do have a couple of bags here so she should be ok. No named brand loo roll but plenty of Tesco's own stuff, especially the shea infused one thrush on a roll.

Couldn't get the ibuprofen liquid tablet things that I prefer (not unless I wanted to pay £3.80 for actual neurofen). So just got the 40p basic ones, but that was only because we've completely run out at home.

Everything else looked fine, I didn't venture down the cleaning aisle.
