I'm posting here in the hope someone may see this. I posted yesterday and didn't get any replies. The Dr has prescribed me this.

I have anemia and have been to weak to do anything for a month. This is to help stop my heavy periods.

Has anyone taken this?

Side effects?

Bleeding or no bleeding?

Scared to swallow it until I have an idea. Thanks.

Desogestrel is a mini pill. I used it (branded cerazette) and it did stop my periods for a few years. Some people get spotting, prolonged bleeding, etc rather than no periods. You dont really know how you will react until you try it

LutherRalph1 · 06/03/2020 13:18

I was prescribed it after LO was born, took over a year for me to start using it. Bled constantly and it gave me terrible moods, stopped taking after 3 months

elaeocarpus · 06/03/2020 13:20

I take cerazette, no periods

I cannot, for whatever reason, take other versions of desogesterol as i get breakthrough bleeding every day for months. Tried various alternatives over the years , same problem every time. But for me Cerazette is fine

Cerazette is great.

No more periods so no more awful PMT.

But you must take it at the same time every day or you will get a bleed / light period at least.

Cookiecrumble8888 · 06/03/2020 14:04

Thanks all. So it's cerezette?

Anyone had nausea with it?

OP posts:
minniemoll · 06/03/2020 14:07

I've been on it for about six years, and think it's great. My periods stopped completely after the first couple of months, and I've not had any side effects.

dementedpixie · 06/03/2020 14:47

Desogestrel is the generic drug. Cerazette, cerelle, zelleta, etc are all branded versions of that drug. I didnt have issues with it at all. I did get the mirena coil after it and that was fine too

WelliAmNot · 06/03/2020 14:50

I’ve tried Cerelle (I think) and it gave me terrible side effects- bad headaches etc. I have been using cerazette for a few years now. At the start, I had irregular periods but nowadays I may have occasional spotting but mostly bleed free. I do tend to get nausea though

LilyJade · 06/03/2020 14:54

I've not had nausea.

One of my friends had bad experiences with cerazette as in she felt suicidal the first weekend she took it, so she stopped it & went back to normal straight away.

But my sister & I have had no bad side effects.

Qwerty543 · 06/03/2020 14:55

I was on cerazette. First time it stopped my periods. Second time it made me nuts, mood swings were just horrific and it messed my cycle up so I was having 10 day periods and they were never predictable as to when they'd turn up.

But it's different for everyone so you won't know until you try. I used to take mine at the same time each day, it made no difference.

graisse · 06/03/2020 14:58

I've been on it a few months now due to extremely painful periods. It's changed my life - no joke! I've gone for 7-10days a month in various degrees of pain and immobility to living a normal life again.

I've had quite a bit of spotting and a 10 day period but honestly I don't care - I'm pain free for the first time in years.

I'd give it a go

graisse · 06/03/2020 14:59

Meant to say my 10 day period was incredibly light.

mummyofbabyward · 06/03/2020 14:59

I'm on destrogel now and it works great for me. I started it 6 weeks after giving birth, had spotting for first few days and nothing since my little girls 5 months! I also used it before pregnancy and it stopped my periods then too. I had really heavy periods before but docs gave me a pill that helps clot so that weakened them a lot before destrogel.

mummyofbabyward · 06/03/2020 15:01
  • Desogestrel
userabcname · 06/03/2020 15:03

I had cerazette in my early 20s, didn't get on with it. On desogestryl now and have been taking it for about 2 and a half months with no issue - one light bleed about a month in, lasted about a week. No other side effects, no other bleeding.

Cinderemma · 06/03/2020 15:05

I was on it for about 18 months. No periods for the first six months. After that I had random bleeds whenever. I stopped it because it was making me feel crap.

Runningshorts · 06/03/2020 15:06

The first time I tried cerazette it gave me very low mood within a few days, definitely worth watching out for this. I swore never to take it
again but a few years later the doctor suggested it for debilitating monthly migraines and it has worked wonders.. I feel like myself again. I still get a period but it is lighter

PirateWeasel · 06/03/2020 15:33

I was fine on it for the 15 months I was breastfeeding, then ended up with a huge breakthrough bleed that lasted ages so I came off it.

Cookiecrumble8888 · 06/03/2020 16:39

Thankyou everyone. Sounds like nausea with it is rare. Mood swings abit.

Bleeding varies. I'll start taking it this evening. So nervous. but if I feel bad I can just stop taking it can't I.

OP posts:
mummyofbabyward · 06/03/2020 17:35

Yeah if you don't like the way it reacts with you, just stop taking it and go ask doctors for another solution. I had some tablets that helped clot which reduced bleeding a lot!

Cookiecrumble8888 · 06/03/2020 17:50

I've taken my first one. Yikes. Hope I don't wake up needing to be sick like I did on Microgynon.

@mummyofbabyward was that tranexamic acid? I tried that but I found I just bled for more days. I am so desperate for this one to work. From what I've read estrogen tends to cause the nausea mostly x

OP posts:
stephg98 · 06/03/2020 18:23

It could of been I can't remember what it was called, and I've never had sickness with the pill so fingers crossed you won't! Hope it works for you.

pistachioicecream · 06/03/2020 18:27

I’ve taken it for about 10 years in various different brands. Haven’t had a period at all in that time. It’s fantastic! Good luck OP. Hope it works for you.

Cookiecrumble8888 · 08/03/2020 14:51

Thanks everyone! I've taken two so far. No low mood or nausea. Within in 24 hours of Microgynon I wasn't to be sick and felt gloomy. Have done mild cramps and sore boobs today though. Hoping af doesn't arrive in 10 days.

OP posts:
Mojitomogul · 08/03/2020 14:55

Been on it for 6 years no problems and no periods. I like the fact if it starts making me feel low I can stop taking it whenever needed, but so far it works well
