Breaking news online. Planes impounded and passengers at airports being turned away.

Dd has a flight in June booked with them and I literally bought travel insurance 3 hours ago. Hope the insurance pay out if I need to claim.

Obviously very sad about people who have lost jobs, etc as well. Blush

Someone’s pulled the plug on their website within the last few minutes.

I am able to get on website and go through booking flights......

GCAcademic · 04/03/2020 22:20

What will happen to all those domestic routes? This isn’t only a case of lost holidays, it’s a whole national infrastructure gone.

StealthPolarBear · 04/03/2020 22:21

It's on the BBC so is fairly trustworthy

StillSurviving · 04/03/2020 22:22

That’s so sad. Big employer in Exeter , and lots of lovely people working there.

TemptingTess · 04/03/2020 22:22

Website looks down

Sounds like Flybe have just gone bust
carlyclock · 04/03/2020 22:24

Website still active. Means nothing. Expect an announcement within the next hour. It's happening. They won't announce until all aircraft on the ground. That's due to happen in about 25 mins.

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 04/03/2020 22:26

Can still access website

Sounds like Flybe have just gone bust

Viva, you might want to check your travel insurance includes ‘scheduled airline failure’. They don’t all and that’s the bit you need to claim against.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/03/2020 22:39

This is what I’m seeing.

Sounds like Flybe have just gone bust

@MrsWobble3 just scoured the document. Not sure if covered or not. Doesn’t say anything specific about airline going bust in either the “you’re covered” or the “not covered” columns. In the “covered” section it says “cancellation/curtailment”, so I’m hoping that’s ok.

I bought the gold level insurance with a 4* de facto insurance company so fingers crossed it’s a good policy.

Yes, the website is offline- the home page appears but you can’t get past that

alloutoffucks · 04/03/2020 22:48

Yes just lost what we paid out, fuck. Managed to cancel hotel free of charge. We would have to travel miles to get an alternative flight to our destination, and it is really not viable.

Leflic · 04/03/2020 22:53

It was well publicised that they were in trouble. So annoying. They were great and flew out of my local airport.
Dreadful for the staff.

tac10 · 04/03/2020 22:54

Yep they are about to go 😞 my friend posted on FB that she was on a flight from Birmingham to Glasgow and the flight was diverted to Manchester. They sat on the plane for ages before being offloaded in Manchester. She had to switch her phone off about half an hour ago due to low battery so I am not sure what has happened to them. Feel so sorry for all the staff who have just lost their jobs!

carlyclock · 04/03/2020 23:10

3 flights have just left Manchester after previously being impounded with tractors behind them. There is still at this point a tiny bit of hope

Violetroselily · 04/03/2020 23:17

Very sad for all those losing their jobs.

Didn't they recently launch a load of new internal routes from Teesside?

alloutoffucks · 04/03/2020 23:21

As well as losing money, we have also lost the ability to fly to a number of destinations easily from near where we live. It also means I now have a much longer journey to visit my parents and it is no longer feasible to do for a weekend.
I am sorry for anyone who has lost their job. But we really could have done without losing this money.

ReginaGeorgeous · 04/03/2020 23:29

I feel really sorry for the staff that have lost their jobs, first and foremost.

I was due to fly with them next week to take my little girl to Disneyland Paris, fortunately I’ll be ATOL protected as I have a package booking through Magic Breaks but I would rather find alternative flights and still be able to go. Have to see what Magic Breaks say in the morning.

Pericombobulations · 04/03/2020 23:38

My husband with some co-workers flew with them to Glasgow. One of them was due to fly with them on the flight from Glasgow to Birmingham today that is mentioned in the Daily Mail article, and was told it wasnt flying due to lack of fuel.

However my husband and two others from the company are also due to fly back with them tomorrow, contingency emergency plans are being made to get them home if they dont have flights.
