Have you ever known someone who is the opposite of their name?

Obviously doesn't apply to people with non descriptive names!

I've been emailing a customer services person for a couple of days today called Melody. Ridiculously, in my mind I'd imagined her sounding all girly.

She called me today to resolve the issue I've been having. A more gravelly voiced and monotone lady I have never spoken to in my life.

Made me think of other descriptive names, and if people generally live up to them or are the opposite of them Grin

A man called Adonis. He was the most inappropriately named man ever.

MashedSpud · 04/03/2020 20:27

A boy called Merlin in the 70’s. He wasn’t a wizard but a red cheeked bully.

FruityWidow · 04/03/2020 20:28

I'm Joy and I'm not miserable Grin

Aquamarine1029 · 04/03/2020 20:32

Grew up knowing a woman named Joy. Miserable, vile bitch of a woman. I remember that as a child I thought she must have suffered some awful things in her life, but it was very difficult to conjure up any sympathy for her because she was just so awful.

BlueBelle81 · 04/03/2020 20:34

My name is (Isa)Belle and I'm fat and ugly Sad

totallydevoidofideas · 04/03/2020 20:36

When I was a kid our GP was Dr Careless and he wasn't at all.

bloodysqueakyeggs · 04/03/2020 20:56

Note to self, perhaps don't name any children Joy! Grin

I knew a Maverick. He is an accountant.

EndDays · 04/03/2020 21:00

I wonder if we all know the same Joy

Claphands · 04/03/2020 21:07

not exactly original, but I met a friends friend recently who was called Joy-in my head I called her Joyless because she saw the negative in everything! It must be a hard name to live up to!

Zaphodsotherhead · 04/03/2020 21:14

My daughter is called Vienna. She is not now, nor has she ever been, a large city in Austria.

LauraMipsum · 04/03/2020 21:14

I knew a child called Verity who was constitutionally incapable of telling the truth. She may have improved as she got older.

CoffeeRunner · 04/03/2020 21:15

I know of a Mr & Mrs Carless who have two cars.

I also know a gravelly voiced Melody & a Grace completely lacking in Grace.

Also a Rose who can’t stand flowers.

BasilFaulty · 04/03/2020 21:17

I've never known a Joy that wasn't an acidic little troll.

Morgan12 · 04/03/2020 21:18

Hunter Gatherer wins the thread.

I love the name Joy. If I ever have a daughter I'd call her that.

EndDays · 04/03/2020 21:19

I used to know a felicity who was always unhappy and had a life full of negatives and dramas. She sounded like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh

ednatheevilwitch · 04/03/2020 21:21

Justin.........huge cock Wink

HalfBloodPrincess · 04/03/2020 21:25

There were girl twins in my sons class - amber and ebony. Amber has dark brown hair and ebony is a red head. I always wondered if they'd done it on purpose

lumpy76 · 04/03/2020 21:27

My eldest ds has a friend called Adonis - I imagined quite a large, impressive young man maybe of Greek or Mediterranean heritage before I met him (my D.C. all have Greek names due to my own heritage)...he's actually a very small, very slightly build for age young man of African decent. I still can't quite put the name with him!

AngelNix · 04/03/2020 21:28

I knew of a Serenity who was anything but serene!

Evilcat · 04/03/2020 21:28

I taught a boy called Innocent - he was not

emilybrontescorsett · 04/03/2020 21:31

I knew a very pale blonde Ebony.

emilybrontescorsett · 04/03/2020 21:32

I also know some very ungraceful Graces.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 04/03/2020 21:33

I was at school with a Philip who was allergic to horses.

Bargebill19 · 04/03/2020 21:38

I know an Elaine - which means sun ray .... She is a soul and joy sucking dementor. Thank god she is moving away and I can leave my home without having to covertly check the road after this weekend!!! (Missing the real point of this thread - as you were!)
