Have you ever known someone who is the opposite of their name?

I've been emailing a customer services person for a couple of days today called Melody. Ridiculously, in my mind I'd imagined her sounding all girly.

She called me today to resolve the issue I've been having. A more gravelly voiced and monotone lady I have never spoken to in my life.

Made me think of other descriptive names, and if people generally live up to them or are the opposite of them

A man called Adonis. He was the most inappropriately named man ever.

A boy called Merlin in the 70’s. He wasn’t a wizard but a red cheeked bully.

Grew up knowing a woman named Joy. Miserable, vile bitch of a woman. I remember that as a child I thought she must have suffered some awful things in her life, but it was very difficult to conjure up any sympathy for her because she was just so awful.

not exactly original, but I met a friends friend recently who was called Joy-in my head I called her Joyless because she saw the negative in everything! It must be a hard name to live up to!

My daughter is called Vienna. She is not now, nor has she ever been, a large city in Austria.

I knew a child called Verity who was constitutionally incapable of telling the truth. She may have improved as she got older.

I know of a Mr & Mrs Carless who have two cars.

I also know a gravelly voiced Melody & a Grace completely lacking in Grace.

Also a Rose who can’t stand flowers.

I've never known a Joy that wasn't an acidic little troll.

I love the name Joy. If I ever have a daughter I'd call her that.

My eldest ds has a friend called Adonis - I imagined quite a large, impressive young man maybe of Greek or Mediterranean heritage before I met him (my D.C. all have Greek names due to my own heritage)...he's actually a very small, very slightly build for age young man of African decent. I still can't quite put the name with him!

I was at school with a Philip who was allergic to horses.

I know an Elaine - which means sun ray .... She is a soul and joy sucking dementor. Thank god she is moving away and I can leave my home without having to covertly check the road after this weekend!!! (Missing the real point of this thread - as you were!)
