I get my Morrisons shopping delivered every Saturday and to ensure a decent pick of time slots, I order the minimum on a Wednesday and then just edit the order the day before delivery.

I've just received an email from Morrisons advising me that 'due to a much higher than usual demand', they're running out of delivery slots fast. So I went to book and got one of the last available Saturday slots, even though today's only Monday Shock

I suspect it may be Coronavirus related panic buying (although I suppose they might just be short staffed). Either way you might all want to check availability a bit earlier than you normally would.

So I’ve just been doing big Ocado shop for work and so much stuff out of stock - paracetamols anti bac kitchen sprays and alphabeti spaghetti ! It’s a diverse range !

GiantKitten · 02/03/2020 23:46

@Aridane not on the website/app - it was an email they sent me.

Yes, it may well be a local thing (I’m in Lancs, I think the vans come from somewhere like Chester?)

WorraLiberty · 02/03/2020 23:47

I did a very rare trip into 'town' at DD's insistence that we stick up on 70% alcohol hand sanitiser stuff and it's all gone! No ship in a normal sized town had any. So, I bought 18 bottles of cheap Vodka from Aldi.

My kind of person.

Get so pissed you're not worried about anything Grin

I saw the advice for self isolating is recommending a home delivery as well, so possibly people who don't usually use the service are using it which makes it extra busy as well.

NemophilistRebel · 02/03/2020 23:48

Still plenty of Waitrose slots available for next day deliveries

Hardly have had anything noted as out of stock too (other than hand gel)

😂😂😂😂😂
Sounds like the best plan, sanitized from the inside out

Pixxie7 · 02/03/2020 23:55

Found the same with Tesco, normally eve slots readily available for middle of the week but none available until Thursday.

Candymay · 03/03/2020 00:03

I got the same message from Ocado advising me to book earlier than normal. It’s definitely the panic buying because of corona. I bought twice as much and it’s coming on Wednesday. Lot of items out of stock including most of the hand sanitiser. Hopefully we won’t need it!

Cinderellasma · 03/03/2020 00:42

Just made our own hand sanitiser. Not a drop of the commercially produced stuff to be found. Madness!
I gave up on the online ordering also. Only the odd slot left, easier to just drive myself tomorrow night.

snappycamper · 03/03/2020 06:23

How did you make your own @Cinderellasma ?

SistemaAddict · 03/03/2020 06:58

I usually have a great choice of slots with Waitrose but there was a very limited choice. I still got me t day delivery though. I'm wondering how many things will be out of stock when they email me the order details later. And no, I haven't ordered Prosecco and gin!

SistemaAddict · 03/03/2020 07:02

I'm my panic buying either, just restocking my brexit stash that has come in very handy so far with bloody universal credit and my exH withholding maintenance. Prepping is the way forward and I wish I'd done it years ago like my nana used to.

ClashCityRocker · 03/03/2020 07:29

I know a few people at work have been booking slots when they'd usually just go to the shop.

We've got one person in self-isolation (back from near an infected area, and has some symptoms but of course more likely to be something more common they picked up over there) and the general feeling in the office is that if figures get higher, anyone will be asked to self-isolate if showing symptoms.

So people who otherwise wouldn't book slots are booking slots because they're worried that if they need to self-isolate, there will be a scarcity of slots...thus creating a scarcity of slots.

I don't think they're worried about coronavirus in itself, more about the self isolation aspect.

Ineedaplan · 03/03/2020 08:13

Thanks for the warning, OP!
Just checked and I can't get one till Thursday, which is unusual.

What do I need? Apart from 18 bottles of vodka?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 03/03/2020 08:28

Why don't you book next week's slot when you edit your order for that week?

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 03/03/2020 08:37

I agree

I don’t know anyone who honestly thinks they are going to die...or even get it in some case, but i do know people who want supplies in in case of self isolation

Ive moved stuff out to the garage Which we've agreed not to touch

Dh had a meeting yesterday and had to confirm by email that he had no need to self isolate before they would let him in the building 😳

WorraLiberty · 03/03/2020 09:08

Yes that's a good idea.

I'm going to do that, although I feel I'll be adding to the 'slot scarcity' myself. Although then again, I always get a weekly delivery anyway.

using online grocery shop I`ve done this a long time, book my slot and then edit nearer.

Aridane · 03/03/2020 09:30

Ha - just been onto Ocado app - I can book a delivery slot for 7pm tonight 😀

Can’t normally do this!

Check your delivery slots if you order your grocery shopping online.
H1978 · 03/03/2020 16:23

Plenty of slots from all supermarkets where I am, I always online shop because I don’t drive and much easier than dragging myself through all the aisles Hmm

SistemaAddict · 03/03/2020 16:24

A fair few substitutions in my shopping. Thankfully not the lentil crisps though.

TonytheDog · 03/03/2020 17:51

I wasn't going to drink all 18 bottles, that would have been a bridge too far! I was thinking I'd drink 16 and use the other two to wash my hands 🖐 🤚 🏠😁 🍸🥃

Is there a way to make hand sanitiser that would allow me to drink the other two bottles?

TheVanguardSix · 03/03/2020 17:59

Can't even do a normal shop. It's ridiculous. And this is exactly what we don't want happening. Panic buying. Inflated prices on Amazon for in-demand, out-of-stock items. We're just generating chaos and feeding the beast.
Nothing wrong with being pragmatic and prepared, but tbh, this is just getting silly.
By the way, Vodka is not strong enough to kill viruses. It's not got enough alcohol in it. Vodka is 40% alcohol.
Buy isopropyl alcohol, which is 70% but it is a toxin and lethal to drink, so store it very safely.

BeyondMyWits · 03/03/2020 18:09

Had our delivery from Waitrose today (sometimes Tesco, but no delivery slots til Thursday) - the driver said it is nuts - they had 50% more deliveries than normal today and 3 of his prior customers were self isolating - he had to leave everything at the (closed) door after making sure they were in.

SistemaAddict · 03/03/2020 18:15

I didn't order any pasta or any store cupboard type things so I'm not sure how stocks are of those. The main disappointment is the lack of halloumi fries as that's our treat whenever we get a waitrose delivery or actually go. We have the essentials though and that's what matters.
