Can’t seem to empty my bladder fully - anyone had this?

Sorry if this is TMI - don’t know where you can discuss these things!

Recently I’m finding that when I go to the loo, I very quickly need to go again - and there’s quite a bit still there. Just been, then brushed my teeth, realised I needed to go again.

I don’t think I have a UTI - I have no pain, burning, and when I get the urge there is actually urine to pass. It’s like I’m not emptying properly rather than getting the urge despite there being nothing there. When I get UTIs they may not be painful right away but that develops within a few days whereas I’ve been like this for weeks.

I do have endometriosis and adenomyosis so I wonder if it’s related. Had a c section for my twins 3.5 years ago but this is a recent issue (last couple of months maybe).

Anyone had anything like this?

Yes.. sadly been like it since the birth of my last (4th) child.
I have a mild cystocele (and rectocele) thanks to childbirth, and I wee, think I'm done, and 2 mins later need to go again and let the last bits out. I'm pretty sure it's the cytocele..probably a a kink in my tubing. It's a nusiance!

Trumpton · 02/03/2020 21:28

The consultant I saw suggested it was because I was too busy to relax into doing a full wee and was just releasing pressure .
She advised sitting and rocking , I was amazed at how much more wee was released . Worth a try ?
I still do the sit and rock for the last wee before bed !

Redpriestandmozart · 02/03/2020 21:29

I have this with MS and my nurse showed me how to double void, www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316706#what-is-double-voiding

After a while, it becomes second nature and I'm not even aware that I do it most times.

Good trick at bedtime.
Wee
Brush teeth /take make up off
Wee.
Or I would get settled in bed and need a wee!!
Many dc and bladder shot...

blackteaplease · 02/03/2020 21:31

When my dd saw the bladder and bowel nurse she suggested seeing? Standing up and turning around and then having a second wee. I sometimes do this and it does work.

Also agree with rocking, using a step and allowing enough time.

justilou1 · 02/03/2020 21:31

I think you should definitely go to the GP and ask for a referral to a urologist. There are far too many possibilities for armchair diagnoses. Whether they are serious or not, I wouldn’t take the risk.

blackteaplease · 02/03/2020 21:31

Grr autocorrect. Seeing? Should be weeing

BertieBotts · 02/03/2020 21:32

Are you possibly constipated? I get this when I am constipated.

BertieBotts · 02/03/2020 21:33

And once I've managed to "go" I can then finish off the wee.

It also happens to me if I drink too much coke which is apparently because it's quite a strong diuretic.

CommunistLegoBloc · 02/03/2020 21:34

I too have had this when I've been extremely busy and stressed. I'm not saying it's definitely not a physical cause, of course, but it was a psychological thing for me for sure. I wasn't even aware quite how stressed I was until I thought my bladder had broken!

thenightsky · 02/03/2020 21:34

Yes me too. I wee, then I lean forward a bit and arch my back and always manage another wee.

march1st · 02/03/2020 21:36

Yes - but I’ve got Fowler’s syndrome, and lots of problems with my bladder . Have had problems start off like yours and ended up in hospital catheterised, needing surgery and all sorts . I would definitely see your GP, and ask for a referral to urology - meantime try to double void (stand up and sit down again) . If you go 12 hours without any pee at all that’s an A&E job , but fingers crossed you won’t have that !

As an aside my urologist said to me - ‘We don’t get many younger women with bladder problems, or many women in general - so when we do, we always take it seriously as it often indicates a significant problem somewhere’ .

Definitely make an appt to see GP .

SinkGirl · 02/03/2020 21:38

Hmm. Could definitely be due to lack of relaxing, rushing, stress. But when I do go at bedtime I do shift around to try and make sure I’m emptied but still have to go again.

And now I’m already thinking I need to go again but I might just be thinking about my bladder too much.

Thanks just - I’m seeing my GP in a few weeks so will bring it up then. Not too concerned at the moment as it’s just annoying more than anything but definitely worth asking them. Will try to keep a note in the meantime.

Oh yes. I would definitely seek help if I couldn’t go! Definitely not having that problem right now.

Do you drink a lot of tea? I find If I drink tea in the evening my bladder feels irritated and I need to pee more than normal

SallyWD · 02/03/2020 22:15

I had this but for me it was a prolapsed uterus pushing on the bladder and creating a pocket so it wouldn't empty properly. Also happens when I'm constipated (bowel pushing on bladder). It's no fun! I do the double voiding and also stand up at the end if a wee and lean forward. A little more always comes out

BrightLightsBigCity · 02/03/2020 22:20

Yes, a lot of us with adenomyosis have this. Are you in/on any support groups/ forums? You can learn a lot through discussion on these, much more than asking a doctor who, in my experience, doesnt know an awful lot about some of the more obscure things, especially at the symptomatic level.

SinkGirl · 02/03/2020 22:24

I’m in a few endo groups and have been for years but haven’t noticed it coming up. Maybe I just haven’t noticed as I’ve never had it before! I know lots of endo sufferers get diagnosed with interstitial cystitis.

I don’t drink tea, I do drink coffee but only drink it in the mornings or I’ll be peeing all day!

OP posts:
mineofuselessinformation · 02/03/2020 22:27

Have you ever suffered from urine retention in the past? Or had a prolapse?
I'm asking because I have nerve damage in my bladder because of severe urine retention (2l plus) and also have a urethrocele which is inoperable.
The two combined mean I can't really tell when my bladder is full to bursting, but I also can't empty it fully the first time, especially in the morning.

TheTiaraManager · 03/03/2020 13:20

I've had this since my most recent DC was born. I've presumed it's weakness in my pelvic floor so have decided to increase my pelvic floor exercises

SinkGirl · 04/03/2020 09:13

Sorry, forgot about this post! No, never had retention (maybe once or twice briefly after surgeries but nothing major), no other signs of a prolapse.

Will discuss it with the doctor when I see them. I don’t think it’s related to my c section as it’s only a recent issue. Having said that, I have had some pinching pain by my c section scar recently right on the left, which I put down to new adhesions so it may be related. Guess I need to ask to go back to the gynaecologist.

OP posts:
SinkGirl · 06/03/2020 10:01

So a couple of days ago I started getting some low pelvic pain and the urgency increased, i figured it must be a UTI. Dropped a sample off at GPs yesterday but it’s clear.

I also have a really odd intermittent sensation at the front - I realise this sounds bonkers so apologies, but it’s almost like a vibrating / maybe muscle spasm sensation. (It might sound pleasant but it’s not!)

I’m not due to see my GP for a month, I guess I probably need to go sooner if it doesn’t resolve over the weekend, or sooner if it gets worse I guess.

Have you thought of trying a women's physio?

MitziK · 07/03/2020 22:20

Have you thought of POAS?

AndromedaPerseus · 07/03/2020 22:42

After having a wee lean forward and wee again to empty bladder completely. I’ve had to do this since 1st pregnancy
