Bristol Post names and shames disgusting online trolls

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 02/03/2020 19:23

I say well done - these are grown, adult men who knew full well what they were doing; and their online trolling has come back to bite them on the bum. Maybe it will shame them into changing their behaviour in future.

I found several of them on FB (their names + "Bristol" seem to be prominent in the search!). They seem to have women and girls in their lives, plus several are fathers too. The article especially comments on one man who had set his profile picture with a "Be Kind" frame!

Good for them. Shocking behaviour but, sadly, not surprising!

Frownette · 02/03/2020 19:30

Woah...I'm glad they've been publically shamed

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 02/03/2020 19:30

Good, sad little men.

Humina · 02/03/2020 19:32

I loved this. Good on Bristol Post for shaming them.

Jellykat · 02/03/2020 19:37

Absolutely brilliant!

What a shame more dont get named and shamed by the media, its the only way to stop the bastards..

Well done Bristolpost, spot on!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 02/03/2020 19:51

Very gammony, weren't they?

SushiGo · 02/03/2020 19:54

This is brilliant. Well done Bristol Post!

GuineaSomethingGood · 02/03/2020 20:35

Poor Greta. So many online seem to hate her. I don't understand why.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome

Isn't gammon a racist slur though? or at best a racial stereotype? like calling a white girl a "basic Becky". Don't mean any disrespect, just wondering?

CommunistLegoBloc · 02/03/2020 20:47

You cannot be racist against a white person. You can be rude, you can be disrespectful, you can be insulting. But you cannot be racist because racism relies on structures of inequality and oppression that do not affect white people.

corlan · 02/03/2020 20:48

Well done Bristol Post!
You'd be hard pressed to find a sadder bunch of losers in the West Country.

GuineaSomethingGood · 02/03/2020 20:56

CommunistLegoBloc

You cannot be racist to a white person

So what about white people who are abused because of their race? Are Irish Travellers, or European Jews or east Europeans "people of colour?" No, they are white, but still subject to racist abuse.

LemonSqueezy0 · 02/03/2020 20:57

Good, I thought it was well deserved. The one with the "Be Kind" frame shows what an absolute joke that 'movement' is unfortunately

Frownette · 02/03/2020 21:00

@LemonSqueezy0 yeah, I've heard a lot of people say the unkindest people they know put that up

missyB1 · 02/03/2020 21:03

Excellent this needs to happen more often!

MagnoliaJustice · 02/03/2020 21:08

More people who post offensive stuff online should be publicly shamed like this.

#bekind - what a load of nonsense that was, and the man with that frame illustrates exactly why.

CommunistLegoBloc · 02/03/2020 21:09

I'm Jewish. You can be anti-Semitic towards me, sure. It's a form of prejudice. And there are people who would argue that travellers and Jews fall into the BAME category. I'm not one of those people, but I do obviously know that a Jew leaving a synagogue is more likely to attract abuse than a white person leaving the Co-op. I have been that person in both scenarios.

However, the protection of white skin is something that affords you extreme privilege and precludes you from being the subject of widespread racist abuse and structural inequalities. You can't take off your colour. You can walk down the street as a Jew or a traveller and most people wouldn't be able to identify you as such. Even Hasidim can technically take off their religious clothing.

YourVagesty · 02/03/2020 21:11

OH MY GOD! This is brilliant!

Well done Bristol Post! Newspapers across the country should follow suit. Arsehole trolls (always predictably male, always absolute losers) need to lose their stranglehold on the internet.

YourVagesty · 02/03/2020 21:13

These men hate Greta because she doesn't construct her image for the male gaze (in my opinion).

GuineaSomethingGood · 02/03/2020 21:19

I'm Jewish

I have Jewish ancestry. Not sure I would call myself BAME not that I have a problem if some Jews choose to do so. I just don't think my people have suffered any less than BAME folks. I think all prejudice is wrong and it is not a competition. What matters is being kind to others. I have friends from different ethnic backgrounds, some BAME, some white and we are all just humans. I cannot stand trolls and think these trolls who targeted GT are vile but their race has nothing to do with their vileness.

GuineaSomethingGood · 02/03/2020 21:20

YourVagesty Your are pobably right. Never thought of it that way before. Good on Greta for being her own woman and follwoing her own passions!

Figgygal · 02/03/2020 21:21

Fair play Bristol post!!

CommunistLegoBloc · 02/03/2020 21:31

I have Jewish ancestry

Well so do a lot of people but being Jewish is a slightly different kettle of gefilte isn't it? Apologies if I've read the situation incorrectly. But the fact of the matter is, despite the suffering of millions of Jewish people, they are not a race or ethnicity in the same manner as someone from Pakistan, for example. Saying 'we're all humans' is reductive as it minimises the experience of the BAME community.

Anyway, we can agree that the trolls are vile.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 02/03/2020 21:45

Gammon: term for angry white person, whose worldview is composed of hate for anyone who isn't them. Derives from the red complexion caused by sunburn, alcohol and rage.

GuineaSomethingGood · 02/03/2020 21:51

a slightly different kettle of Gefilte, isn;t it? Well, if you mean that practicing Jewish as a faith and a way of life is different than someone like me who doesn't practice but is just ethnically a Jew, then you're right. But the pogroms and shoah still affected people who did not practice.

I do get that BAME people have very deep rooted experiences with racism. My mum is ethnically 1/16t Romany gypsy, so technically BAME, but she just looks like an olive skinned white person, so get that her life is easier race-wise than a Romany who is very Indian looking, as some of them are. I get that some racism, like that against BAME persons is worse than someone being called a gammon or a becky. I just think labels like gammon and Becky make sweeping assumptions. BAME voted for Brexit, middle class people voted for Brexit. women and under 30s did. the name Becky assumes a white millinnenial women has an easy life. but they may be neurodiverse or poor or LGBT. I just hate assumptions. I like to take people on their own merits. Race is just one part of a person's experience, same as being gay or being disabled. a big part, yes, but there are many others. That is what I mean by all being human.

Apologies if there are any BAME people reading this thread who may have felt offended by my comments. I meant no harm, am just a bit clumsy with my words. Good night

GuineaSomethingGood · 02/03/2020 21:55

DisgracetotheY Chromosome they are the same ethnic group (caucasian) as Greta Thunberg. so don't see whatskin colour/race has to do with it. GT has race privelege too.

I hate stereotypes. human beings are more than their skin colour. the world needs to get past race and skin colour and accept everyone as individual people. these men are vile because they are trolls. Their skin colour does not make them vile..... doing vile things makes someone vile.

I have no problem with judging people
