Did you have a honeymoon? Where did you go?

Planning our honeymoon and have decided we’ll be happy with a couple of nights hotel stay somewhere here in the UK. (Mostly due to money as even this will be a stretch.)

But I wondered if that was unusual and whether most people went abroad?

Did you have a honeymoon and if so what did you do?

We had a hell of a honeymoon. We went to New Zealand for six weeks, three weeks in a campervan, two weeks staying with various friends around the country and a week in a hotel. Got back a couple of weeks ago, it was the most experience of my life 😍
Very OTT but we’ve not had a holiday together the whole time we’ve been together bar one long weekend to the cotswolds as he works such long hours and we have such heavy business commitments here, it’s been nigh on impossible to get away. Very glad we did Smile

The Maldives. Unforgettable.

We had a mini-moon directly after the wedding, we went to Jersey for 4 days at the start of October, it was a gift from my parents. It was amazing and Jersey is beautiful.
We hired a car and went around the whole island, visited lots of the landmarks and their Zoo, and they also had a food festival on at that time of year so food was very cheap.

We had our bigger trip 6 months later, and we went to the Dominican Republic. I was sick for a week and a half of the 1 week trip, and I honestly wish now that we went elsewhere as it was something at the hotel making me unwell. I only know as there have been huge sickness cases about the hotel since.

I'm getting married in three weeks and the next day we are going to Lisbon for 5 days.. I cannot wait!! The hotel looks amazing, i love portugese food and we have awanted to go for a while now.
I love beach holidays but living by the sea we both fancied somewhere we can explore together but stillenjoy the luxury of a great hotel in town .. I really didn't want to wait to go further afar as the honeymoon is part of the excitement of getting married (and not getting depressed when its all over and done 48 hours later!) for us, anyway!

Holiday cottage near Bridlington for a week.

We had our 'honeymoon' nearly 3 years after we got married - we moved abroad for dh's work shortly after we married so didn't really think about a honeymoon. We went to the US, 5 days in New York, and 10 days in Florida.

A week SC in Gran Canaria - but we also had a weekend in London and a weekend in Paris later that same spring as well (wedding was early Feb so Gran Canaria was only warmish, not hot). But the peace after the whirlwind of wedding preps and work chaos was what we needed. And money was extremely tight (Paris and London were both on flights from supermarket tokens and cheap hotels - but still really enjoyable as neither of us had done much travel before).

Walking in Austria for a week, then a few days in Munich. All by train.

DH insisted on going straight off at the end of our wedding reception (we got changed in friends' bedrooms at the hotel and they took our wedding outfits home for us). It felt special leaving that way.

Burgh Island (www.burghisland.com).

And

Bovey Castle (www.boveycastle.com)

Both were really nice. Didn't spend long in either, but enjoyed both.

A week in a log cabin in the Lake District with our two dogs too. It had a lovely hot tub and was on a gorgeous lake. Loved the tranquility after the rush and organisation of the wedding

Scotland in April. We could sit up in bed and look across Loch Lomond, it was lovely.

We had a week in Yorkshire, with our 6 month old DD. It was a very remote log cabin, and we had a lovely walk every day into the village. It was perfect.

Morar in the wst highlands - even though it was late spring and colder than a witches it was bliss.

Two weeks in South Africa - Cape Town, Hermanus, Stellenbosch and a safari in Kruger. Absolutely amazing.

We planned the honeymoon more than the wedding, saving for a couple years to go to Northern Italy for 3 weeks (probably couldn't recommend that right now...)

With various illness and family issues, we actually slept for over half of it. The hotel staff were convinced we were spending so much time in our room bonking, but we really were just catching up on so much sleep!
