Do you experience ASMR?

I'm interested to know how many of you experience ASMR? I do, but haven't met anyone else who does (not that I've asked many others - just family members)

Yes i love it.Latte ASMR is amazing. Her attention to detail is great.

My favourites are hair brushing, tapping and massage.

Its great for insomnia i find.

TabbyStar · 01/03/2020 16:44

Is this ASMR? I got it in an art class when people were painting my portrait at school???

Yes that did it for me too!

JillAmanda · 01/03/2020 16:46

Ooh and the nit nurse....

JillAmanda · 01/03/2020 16:49

Tried Latte ASMR.

“How are you today? I heard that you accidentally fell off the ground?”

Yeah no....

Bigearringsbigsmile · 01/03/2020 16:50

I get it. Watching people draw does it for me or kids playing with blocks or Lego. The whispery voice videos don't work.

tobee · 01/03/2020 16:53

Oooh yeah the nit nurse! Grin

We used to form a seated chain (just the girls!) at primary school, when we had story time, of us all doing each other's hair; plaiting etc! GrinGrin We always got to told off SadSad

tobee · 01/03/2020 16:54

That's good to know @TabbyStar! I thought I might have been some sort of egotistical weirdo! Grin

tobee · 01/03/2020 16:56

Presumably it's an opposite reaction to the sensation when someone drags fingernails down a blackboard? I imagine it is a fine line between what people like and what they can't stand.

senttomefromheaven · 01/03/2020 17:01

I get it when someone is gift wrapping a present in a shop. Love the feeling and don't get it often.

Rosecatter · 01/03/2020 17:10

I like the ASMR hydraulic press videos on instagramSmile

Daisychainsandglitter · 01/03/2020 17:14

I get it. Such a lovely feeling. Until a year or so ago I thought I was the only person who experienced this.
I use the videos to sleep. There is one Gibi does measuring which I absolutely love. Such a lovely feeling Smile

kemosabeimalone · 01/03/2020 17:16

I get it when I have an eye exam irl. I also get it from some tapping and watching asmr videos of facials / ear cleaning. The ones done by Latte asmr are amazing in her attention to detail. Also like GiBi and ASMR magic.

tobee · 01/03/2020 17:18

Yes! I've found my people I'm not a freak! Especially with reference to eye exam and gift wrap! Grin

What do these things have in common? Why ASMR from these things?

Absoluteunit · 01/03/2020 17:20

Yes. I can remember experiencing it as a young child at the GP but didn't know what it was until a couple of years ago.

I don't like most of the videos on YouTube, especially whispery ones Angry

But certain voices and close personal attention in RL usually do it for me

JillAmanda · 01/03/2020 17:20

When they wrap up fish and chips in the chippie 😁

JillAmanda · 01/03/2020 17:23

I think it’s fascinating. It’s strange that there hasn’t been more proper research on it. I wonder which part of the brain lights up? My heart rate drops massively but I wonder if my blood pressure does?

tobee · 01/03/2020 17:25

I wonder if seeking it on YouTube is not as satisfying for some because it works best if it takes you by surprise as it were?

Halfcharged · 01/03/2020 17:30

Yes I do, I watch videos about twice a week. I actually think you’re incredibly lucky if you experience it. If they could prescribe the feeling in pill form it’d be used to treat all sorts of conditions-anxiety, depression, insomnia, high blood pressure.

EvaHarknessRose · 01/03/2020 17:32

There was a radio 4 programme about it recently and the ones they played made my scalp and back of neck tingle, so I guess yes.

Q1w2e3 · 01/03/2020 17:32

I get it and find it so soothing to watch videos on youtube. My favourite is GentleWhispering. I like hand movements and lip smacking the best. It’s even better when it happens in real life but that’s much rarer for me.

chipsandgin · 01/03/2020 17:41

Can’t stand the creepy whispering people & they all look so fucking smug, also as I have misophonia any eating/chomping/lip smacking sounds make me instantly stabby. I think that’s part of the issue with the smug whisperers, 2 seconds in & I’m just thinking ‘ffs, you need to hydrate urgently you creepy weirdo, stop whispering & sort out you dry mouth’ 🤢.

However yes - things like crackling fires, sea sounds on a pebble beach & loads of actual physical stuff like haircuts, cutting gift wrap paper in one go with scissors, mixing acrylic paints do.

Always assumed everyone experienced this - gutted for people that don’t (but would happily give up that gift if I could get rid of the misophonia! I’ve definitely spent a far larger percentage of time almost having to physically restrain myself from acting on the intense rage & physical pain caused by someone eating crisps next to me than I have had enjoying ASMR experiences!)

tobee · 01/03/2020 17:49

My bete noire Sound is people whistling. And, sadly, the sound of Dh thumb as it strums random chords on guitar strings. Which is his favourite way to relax. Sad

Mooserp · 01/03/2020 17:50

I was shocked when I found out ( a few years ago) that not everyone experiences it. I get it from touch, sights, sounds and, if I'm in the right mood, just from thinking about those things.

Gogolego · 01/03/2020 17:55

I do!!! But only certain triggers. I can't be doing with all that tapping. My go to YouTube videos are whispering; hair& makeup; stories. WhispersRed is my favourite ASMR channel

BossAssBitch · 01/03/2020 18:14

I have it and feel v fortunate. My brother has it and his little boy. It’s a form of meditation for me. Eye examinations were always a trigger for me.. and people putting things into brown paper bags very carefully and quietly..like the Hornby advert from years ago, a shop keeper putting a toy train set into a bag.. ASMR gold Grin
