I'm in Liverpool.

I have lived all over and you can only get Sui Mais here (that I have for nd anyway.)No one else outside of Liverpool seems to have heard of them.

They are pork and prawn dumplings but bigger and better and not won tons.

Recently went to Cardiff and I had a corned beef and mash thing from the chippy that was a welsh thing. It definitely began with R but it was regional to that area I think. It was fabulous.

What do you have that you don't see anywhere else?

Being kinder to the OP, clearly a specific type of dim sum being commonly sold in chippies is a Liverpool thing?

The best dim sum are har gow anyway followed by anything char siu. OP, I remember Liverpool having a fab Chinatown (doesn’t Liverpool have the biggest Chinese arch outside of China?) there must be some decent dim sum restaurants there. Track one down cos sui mai are only the tip of the iceberg!

I’ve only ever come across macaroni cheese pie at buffets when on holiday in the Caribbean!
So delish, I had to find a recipe via google.

Macaroni, milk, eggs, LOTS of good strong Cheddar, s & p and a bit of English mustard, whack in the oven - always a hit in this house.

Pease Pudding, Stotties and Saveloy Dips. Always stock up on my return to the homeland (Newcastle). Saveloy Dips are my most treasured junk food.

HaddawayAndShite · 01/03/2020 09:35

Oh and cheese savoury / corned beef savoury sandwiches too. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them outside of the north east!

Hendersons relish from Sheffield . When I visit people from out of the area I always take a bottle as a gift.

Ginfordinner · 01/03/2020 10:45

Barnsley chops. The clue is in the name Grin

Hendersons relish from Sheffield

I recently discovered Tom Wrigglesworth's Hang Ups.

It's a Radio 4 comedy about his calls to his parents in Sheffield.
This one is all about getting Henderson's relish to London.

I'm surprised that Henderson's Relish isn't more widely available. It is the best vegetarian replacement for Worcestershire Sauce.

Mrsjayy · 01/03/2020 12:07

Tesco sell Henderson relish

Mrsjayy · 01/03/2020 12:08

I just didn't know what it was.

wobytide · 01/03/2020 12:09

Butter pies

Parched peas from next to the covered market....

northernstars · 01/03/2020 12:40

Ah parched peas. Is he still with his truck on the flag market??

FlamingoAndJohn · 01/03/2020 12:41

I have to go to an artisan type food hall to get Henderson’s Relish.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 01/03/2020 12:54

Lemon tops

Chips with scraps and a battered pineapple ring

A proper stottie

Black bullets

Yorkshire curd tarts

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 01/03/2020 14:47

I've seen cheese savoury sandwiches in many places. I've never heard of corned beef savoury sandwiches though.

BillywigSting · 01/03/2020 18:52

Can confirm there are some incredible dim sum restaurants in Liverpool and siu mai is only the tip of the iceberg.

There is not much better than really good char siu potstickers

nsav · 01/03/2020 18:54

@HaddawayAndShite we have cheese savoury sandwiches in SW Scotland, I actually had my first one last week after being scared(?!) to try them for all 20 years of my life... I’m addicted! Sooo good

nonsensicalmess · 01/03/2020 19:20

Ireland - Tayto crisps. Lots of varieties of bread not seen elsewhere - soda, potato, barnbrack...,

BillywigSting · 01/03/2020 20:52

Also Ireland

Red lemonade
Barry's tea
Brown/soda bread
Supervalu deli counter (especially the potato salad)
And a bit old fashioned but bacon and cabbage. My nana used to make this for me and my cousin on a Friday and it was lovely.
The sausages from the butcher on main street in arklow. Arklow is the armpit of the universe but that butcher is it's saving grace.

ifancyagreencard · 01/03/2020 20:59

Corned beef pasties....... South Wales DaffodilDaffodil

TheLarkDescending · 01/03/2020 21:06

The Chinese takeaway near where I grew up did something called “balinki” - some kind of crispy beef on skewers. Never seen it anywhere else.

gingajewel · 01/03/2020 21:44

Orange chips and grey peas and bacon, both delicious!

Bunnybigears · 01/03/2020 21:53

Havent read the whole thread but in case no one mentioned it yet Panakelty which is the most awesome meat thing ever which I only tried 18 years after moving to Sunderland.

kazza446 · 01/03/2020 21:58

Blimey! There’s obviously quite a few Prestonians on this thread! I came on here to say butter pie. Never heard of them before working in Preston. They are delicious 😋

Hadenoughofitall441 · 01/03/2020 22:21

Love the Tottenham cake from Greggs, I’ve noticed anything past london don’t sell it, went to Luton, Leicester, Skegness, Lincoln and many other places up north I’ve been too and they don’t sell em.
