I'm in Liverpool.

I have lived all over and you can only get Sui Mais here (that I have for nd anyway.)No one else outside of Liverpool seems to have heard of them.

They are pork and prawn dumplings but bigger and better and not won tons.

Recently went to Cardiff and I had a corned beef and mash thing from the chippy that was a welsh thing. It definitely began with R but it was regional to that area I think. It was fabulous.

What do you have that you don't see anywhere else?

@Sparklingbells @Northernmum100 ex Prestonian here. Came to say butter pie with peas, red cabbage and gravy. Not had one for years.

Yellredder · 29/02/2020 17:49

In St Helens you can ask for a split in the chippy and you'll get chips and peas.

southcoastmummy · 29/02/2020 18:01

Saffron buns from my home county...Lardy cake from my adopted one

southcoastmummy · 29/02/2020 18:03

knocksomesrnse I've got my grandmother's recipe for her green bean chutney...the mustard used to make your eyes water Grin

Dreamersandwishers · 29/02/2020 18:14

@CatFaceCats sorry - bit late on the thread, but Aitkens is no more. It’s a sad tale, & Google can fill you in on the very sordid details...
But Murdoch Allan does a good one now 😁

TheSandman · 29/02/2020 18:19

Patties from Hull.

The only thing about Hull I miss....

...apart from Skelton's Chorley Cakes. Gods, they were good!

CatFaceCats · 29/02/2020 18:21

@dreamers, I know :(
Used to live near one in Torry, then may later year right beside one just off Charlotte street. Used to have 4 a day - surprised I wasn’t the size of a house!

Carpathian2 · 29/02/2020 18:22

Real, proper pasties ( I'm in Plymouth). Not Ginsters, they don't count down here!

I'm from Liverpool originally & yes, my mums scouse ( with red cabbage) is the best.

Also, you can't get decent meat and potato pies outside Wigan.

Blueblackrose · 29/02/2020 18:23

Has anybody mentioned the delicious Empire Biscuit?

Also, we have spicy spuds here that I've never seen anywhere else.

Anyone seem them elsewhere?

fishonabicycle · 29/02/2020 18:54

We used to get rissoles for school dinner. Flipping rank flat bits of meat cooked in greasy breadcrumbs. I live in Kent.

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/02/2020 18:59

We used to get rissoles too (Hampshire), I didn't realise they were regional.

Shamazing · 29/02/2020 19:20

I've had Sui mais! In Glasgow and in Birmingham - lovely!

Regional to where I live now would be a Bedfordshire clanger.

Southwest12 · 29/02/2020 19:42

@thequeenbeyondthewall you don't get Sui Mai in chippies outside of Liverpool, you have to go to a Chinese takeaway. Liverpool is really weird in that a chippy sells fish and chips and Chinese food. I used to live in London and chippys only sell fish and chips and burgers, if you want Chinese you go to a Chinese takeaway.

I love Staffordshire oat cakes, used to work with someone who'd bring them in if he'd been to visit his parents and we'd heat them up with cheese.

Where is that regional to? Were very popular in the bakery I used to work at in Shetland, and I'm pretty sure they aren't specific to here.

BestIsWest · 29/02/2020 19:49

Rissoles are not flat bits of meat in Wales.

They are made from left over chips (ideally), onion, corned beef, dried herbs and salt and pepper, rolled into a ball, covered in breadcrumbs or batter and deep fried. (DH has made thousands).

Shamazing · 29/02/2020 19:50

Lots of chippys in Scotland sell spring rolls and my old local one used to sell the best Chinese ribs I've ever tasted.

Mrsjayy · 29/02/2020 20:37

Spring rolls from the chippy are amazing

onlyhereforthefood · 29/02/2020 21:12

purrswhileheeats · 29/02/2020 21:59

TroysMammy · 29/02/2020 22:11

I really want a rissole now but the chip shop is shut Sad.

twoheaped · 29/02/2020 22:11

Butter Pie and Rag Pudding.

Pinkponiesrock · 29/02/2020 22:16

Dream rings from Harry Gows bakery in the North of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 it’s like an iced brioche type ring that’s split and filled with cream, except that’s it’s not a brioche, it’s a secret recipe that’s lighter.
Rowies in Aberdeen which in my opinion are horrible but definitely an Aberdeen thing.

Is fruit pudding a UK wide delicacy? It’s my favourite cooked breakfast option!

RightOnTheEdge · 29/02/2020 22:26

They sell Empire biscuits in my local Greggs in North Yorkshire.

I had a chicken Parmo last night for tea 😋
