Rockferry is one of my all-time favourite albums, not least because it's named after my DM's birth place in Cheshire (now Merseyside). I love the story of how Duffy found sanctuary there as a teenager.

Me and dh were only talking very recently about Duffy, asking whatever happened to her as she just disappeared.

Like others, I really hope whoever did it is behind bars. What a terrifying ordeal for her.

Her strength is an inspiration. I really hope her recovery continues. What an amazing woman.

I too wondered where she had gone. Loads of people said the coke advert she did destroyed her career and that’s why you didn’t hear anything from her anymore but I never bought into that. Poor woman.

You know what makes me sick, even sicker than trying to imagine the horror of what she went through? The people saying “does she have a new album coming out?” and “that’ll increase her record sales”.

FFS. I haven’t dared look at Twitter because I’m sure there will be people (and when I say people I mean men) queuing up to say “whoa that’s a big allegation”, “innocent until proven guilty” and cracking sick jokes.

I’m reading the latest Dorothy Koomson novel - Tell me your secret - which has a very similar story line. Very chilling that it isn’t fiction but happens in real life.

Is there something not being said here or have I missed it. Did they find the person who did this?

Maybe it will bring comfort and hope to other women hearing from her. Knowing that someone else suffered something similar to you (as devastating as it is to learn that) and that they didn't instantly bounce back, but spent a decade in a very bad place before things improved, might help others who are struggling still - that they're not alone and it's not their fault (either that it happened to them or that "recovery" may still be elusive).

Her story isn't about her perpetrator. It's about her, her life, the impact on her.

I don't understand why the perpetrator has not been arrested and charged. Is he doing/ has he done it to others ?

Harvey Weinstein is in jail now because one or two women spoke out this encouraged others to go to the police.
Often it takes just one brave person to get justice for many.

In the piece I read on BBC she never reported it so no, no one will be behind bars etc

@LadyEloise read Catch & Kill by Ronan Farrow - he was researching the Harvey Weinstein situation for a very long time with terrified women on tape (with their identities hidden as they were so scared of reprisal). He was stalked by an Israeli security company, he was threatened, he lost his job at i think cnn, the story was squashed from on high by numerous powerful figures. He had to establish a safe place (security box in secure location) with back ups of information in case he had a sad ‘accident’ crossing the road while writing it up. He was publicly slurred as someone trying to wreak revenge on his own father (woody Allen) on his sisters’ behalf, who was fucked up and unreliable...

It was definitely NOT a case of just one or two women coming forward. The book is one of the darkest things I’ve ever read.

Or look at the poor Ulster Rape Crisis victim. I bet she doesn’t think it takes just one brave person to come forward any more!
