Savoury pancake filling

What do other people put in their pancakes? I need inspiration! I'd happily just eat lemon/sugar/syrup bit DH has weird ideas about the children needing to eat something vaguely healthy... Pff! Grin

If I have a savoury one I have beans and cheese or cheese and ham. Cheese must be melted.

PurpleDaisies · 24/02/2020 17:12

Garlic mushrooms are lovely on a pancake.

Also beetroot and goats cheese.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 24/02/2020 17:13

Savoury pancakes are all kinds of wrong, people like your DH worry me quite honestly.

However I have seen cheese and ham ones, cheese and bacon with a fried egg on done, well someone fed them to my poor dc while I ate lemon and sugar where they couldn’t see

Chicken in a white sauce

DGRossetti · 24/02/2020 17:19

Bolognese or chilli inside, rolled up put in a dish covered in cheese sauce and baked/grilled ? Sort of battery cannelloni ?

BumbleBeeFlower · 24/02/2020 17:20

Cream cheese and chives in a pancake are lovely.
Bacon on pancakes is also good.

APatchyTomCat · 24/02/2020 17:20

The Pancake House at centreparcs used to do one with chilli, sour cream and jalapeños. God I loved those.

Myfanwyprice · 24/02/2020 17:22

Surely pancakes are just dessert tomorrow - or have I been doing pancake day wrong all these years?

We’ll be having lemon and sugar or Nutella with strawberries and banana.

As lemons, bananas and strawberries are all fruit I consider this to be healthy 😂

whitesoxx · 24/02/2020 17:22

He thinks melted cheese would be healthier than lemon juice? Or is he thinking a salad pancake? Confused

Tell him to get inspired and do it himself if he's that fussed

Titsywoo · 24/02/2020 17:23

Tomato, spinach and feta ones are nice

I just like them with cheddar cheese

doadeer · 24/02/2020 17:23

Cheese mushroom and spinach is lovely

Titsywoo · 24/02/2020 17:25

I don't have a sweet tooth so only have savoury ones. It's not unusual really - it basically the same batter as a yorkshire pudding and they go with savoury foods.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 24/02/2020 17:25

I used to use that tinned chunky chicken from M&S, a tin of sweetcorn, some ham bits, a fucktonne of grated cheese

mix it all up and daub it in the middle of pancakes roll them up, make a cheese sauce to go over the top and then into the oven

They are gooooooood....all you naysayers presumable revile all things like enchiladas, fajitas, cos they are effectively savoury filled pancakes too.

TopOfTheGherkin · 24/02/2020 17:28

Crispy bacon.

No healthier than Nutella or lemon & sugar, though.

AdaColeman · 24/02/2020 17:29

Hot
Chicken in white sauce
Chopped ham & leeks in a cheese sauce
Smoked Haddock in cheese sauce
Cold
Chicken avocado & lettuce
Bacon & tomatoes
Coronation Chicken
Smoked mackerel and Waldorf salad

SnuggyBuggy · 24/02/2020 17:33

I like cheese and sausage cut in half. DH thinks savoury pancakes are an abomination

purpleme12 · 24/02/2020 17:33

Mincemeat

Amzz87 · 24/02/2020 17:33

I'm like you syrup/sugar/lemon. Then I throw in some banana to make me think I'm eating healthier lol.

Notso · 24/02/2020 17:36

Tell him to bog off! It's one meal in a year, everything is healthy in moderation.

We used to have crepes cannelloni or as my kids call it Pansagne which was nice but too filling for pancake day it didn't leave much room for the sweet ones. Now we have it the day after Shrove Tuesday as I can make the pancakes ahead.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 24/02/2020 17:37

Mashed potato, corned beef and onion all. Sorta like a pie but with pancake instead of pastry

iklboo · 24/02/2020 17:41

They can be healthy - fruit & Greek yoghurt ones are lovely. That's what I'll be having on mine tomorrow.

mynameiscalypso · 24/02/2020 17:43

Tomorrow we'll be having pancakes filled with a creamy garlicy chicken and spinach sauce thing and baked in the oven with a bit of cheese on top.

YessicaHaircut · 24/02/2020 17:51

I used to do melted cheese, chopped ham and a fried egg, but honestly found it way too filling to have savoury as well as sweet pancakes. So now we have a lightish normal dinner (pasta and salad tomorrow I think) followed by as many lemon and sugar pancakes as we fancy. The sweet ones are definitely the best bit!

pinkdressinggown · 24/02/2020 17:57

Mum mum does bolognese wrapped in pancakes, with béchamel sauce and cheese on top and baked in the oven. Honestly it's amazing, I look forward to it every year!

NachoNachoMan · 24/02/2020 18:03

Im going to do some calzone pizza style ones 😁 mushrooms, onions, cheese, tomato sauce. I've done it before with ratatouille, too.

My mum used to roll up pancakes with grated cheese in, put them in a lasagne dish, poured over cream of tomato soup, sprinkled on cheese and then baker in the oven.
