Can't see anything on the website about it but someone said they do?!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 24/02/2020 18:04

I got them for both mine.
I also got a certificate with a photo and lock if hair rom their first haircuts. They're in their memory boxes. I thi k it's really sweet.

ThickSock · 24/02/2020 18:33

EmmaGrundy I’m not a doctor but you were definitely brave.

AintNobody bloody hell who is anyone to tell you whether something really hurt or not. It does make you despair to be told that by a doctor. And yes hysteroscopies bloody well do hurt. Virtual stickers for all.

Back to the OP. Which of our DCs milestones we choose to celebrate is entirely up to us. To some people a first pair of shoes certificate is a waste of paper and space, to others it’s a lovely thing to put in a memory box. No one should be made to feel bad for wanting one.

There might well be those who wish to keep a supermarket receipt or a parking ticket too. If it means something to that person, why not?

@ScarlettBlaize You need to move along and get yourself a hobby or some friends or something. It's people like you that ruin harmless threads like this.
Bore off

@ScarlettBlaize

I really really hope you're being sarcastic. Are you? Please say you are.

Well I wasn't but it's not that deep really. It would've been cute at the time but since posting on this thread, I haven't actually thought about it. Surprised you've even replied to me, are you okay?

CopperMugs · 24/02/2020 20:06

I'm with scarlett and Emma. This is utterly pathetic

Child needs shoes. Gets shoes. Wears them. Needs more. And so on.

Or are you the type of parents who need your darling to 'graduate' from nursery?

yummychocolate · 24/02/2020 20:13

I went to 2 different stores last week and they said they no longer take photos due to data protection. We got our certificate though.

purpleme12 · 24/02/2020 20:20

Oh god sometimes the data protection thing's gone mad

HotChocolatemarshmallows · 24/02/2020 20:45

@CopperMugs What is REALLY utterly pathetic is your attitude. It's not your thing and that's absolutely fine so just move along and don't bother commenting!

Good grief! What ever happened to Be Kind!

OP posts:
Mookie81 · 24/02/2020 20:48

Some snidey, spiteful bastards on this thread.
The 'be nice' stuff will never work because it seems to be a part of human nature for so many people to be mean for no reason.

CopperMugs · 24/02/2020 20:52

Fuck be kind. It is being co-opted by the slow of thought.

Honestly. If you struggle to understand why people would think you were pathetic for wanting a certificate for an inconsequential thing, then I wish you luck.

You posted on an open forum. Did you really want expect everyone to agree?

purpleme12 · 24/02/2020 20:52

I think people like these thrive off a reaction though so I don't tend to engage. You can never talk sense to them it seems to me

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2020 20:54

Ds1 (19) never got one, but DS2 (18) did. Different branches as we moved house in between. to be fair, it was just a young lass that fitted DS1 and although he was only just 1, he looked older and we bought him a pair of trainers so maybe she didn't think they were his first shoes.

Nat6999 · 24/02/2020 20:55

We got a polaroid in a First shoes card when ds got his first pair of shoes at around 9 months, I also kept his first shoes as a keepsake.

BikeRunSki · 24/02/2020 20:57

DD got one from Clinkard’s 7 years ago (Start Rite shoes); DS didn’t get one from John Lewis 10 years ago (Clark’s shoes).

ineedaholidaynow · 24/02/2020 20:58

If you didn't get one, could you not just take a photo at home and design your own certificate?

donquixotedelamancha · 24/02/2020 20:59

MN is becoming Nietzsche's wet dream.

Yes, the central theme of 'On the Genealogy of Morality' is why one should be cynical about marketing ploys.

Who could forget his polemic about the fact that you can never win on those fairground 2p machines?

Arguably a widespread distain, amongst the working classes, for little certificates about the minutiae of life, led directly to the rise of fascism in the 30s.

HotChocolatemarshmallows · 24/02/2020 21:00

@CopperMugs Please show me where I asked if everyone agreed? Read my question again.

Who's 'slow of thought' now.

I fully accept it's not everyone's cup of tea, I would hate for everyone in the world to be the same. The difference between you and me is that I accept we are all different. You seem very narrow minded and frankly very bitter.

Please get a hobby or some friends and stop being randomly nasty. It's really rather pathetic.

You are what's wrong with this forum.

OP posts:
Parttimewasteoftime · 24/02/2020 21:03

Yes I got the photo of first shoes quite a sweet photo of me and DS. Jeez yeah its a ploy but I liked it if you don't just say no!?
Also got a first haircut certificate 😂

CopperMugs · 24/02/2020 21:17

You posed a question on an open forum.

And when people disagreed with your PFB cutsie bs, you got pissy.

Sorry if you feel attacked or whatever

CopperMugs · 24/02/2020 21:23

And the be kind nonsense, is what I referred to as the slow of thought.

Profile change. Hash tag etc. Yawn

NeverGotMyPuppy · 24/02/2020 21:25

Yeah. Its deffo the OP's fault if she 'feels attacked or whatever'. Cos it isnt like she has been called pathetic.

HotChocolatemarshmallows · 24/02/2020 21:30

@CopperMugs 😂

OP posts:
HotChocolatemarshmallows · 24/02/2020 21:31

@NeverGotMyPuppy There are some vile bitter people on this forum, I'm not even wasting my time replying to them anymore. I just feel sorry for their kids tbh!

OP posts:
ArriettyJones · 24/02/2020 21:33

A certificate for first shoes? Certifying what? That you bought shoes?

Never heard of it but it’s really made me laugh 😆 Wait until they’re twenty and you’re sifting through the stack of childhood paraphernalia, wondering how many toddler scribbles and school certificates for good manners etc you need to keep, and what can go.

NeverGotMyPuppy · 24/02/2020 21:34

@HotChocolatemarshmallows I've been on MN a long time but it does seem to have got worse. There is a constant need to insult other people- the 'things you dont get' thread is another way of people just sneering at others. It's just ridiculous.
