Help! Have I just poisoned myself?

Just bought a pack of peperami whilst shopping and opened one on the way home in the car. Didn't look at it before taking a bite but thought it tasted a bit yuk and didn't eat any more. When I got home and looked it wasn't the usual colour either (kind of pale and not red). Showed DH and he threw it in the bin and refused to try it to test out if it's ok or not - my thinking is if he's ok, it must be ok, but if I'm the only one who ate it I'll think myself into feeling sick :( So now I'm panicking and waiting to start feeling ill - does anyone know how dangerous a manky peperami is?

What was the actual date on the packaging? I can’t imagine one bite would cause any problems

Haggisfish · 23/02/2020 15:53

I think you’ll be fine. So much salt and preservatives in them. I’d keep it and packaging for a few days just in case.

Badtasteflump · 23/02/2020 15:54

Best before June 2020 - I opened another one in the pack & it's fine, so it must have been a random horrible one...

I guess the worst thing that could happen would be that it might make you sick. The risk of food poisoning must be pretty low after one bite.

BoccaBaciata · 23/02/2020 15:56

There was probably a little tear in the packaging which meant it wasn't airtight, and it's gone manky. One bite won't so you any harm though!

Badtasteflump · 23/02/2020 15:57

It really tasted rank - can't believe I swallowed it anyway 🤢

Not being funny but if you were in the car and didn’t look at it could you have accidentally left the plastic wrap on? That tastes foul!

Badtasteflump · 23/02/2020 16:00

Granny it's not that, the whole thing is the wrong colour...

Granny Grin

GrannyBags · 23/02/2020 16:25

I like that no-one has asked how I know how the plastic tastes.....
Hope you are feeling ok OP

Badtasteflump · 23/02/2020 16:28

I assumed you were guessing, not that you'd actually eaten it 😁... I'm feeling ok atm, slightly queasy but I think that's just my overactive imagination...

CircleofWillis · 23/02/2020 16:31

Picture please! I hope you don't think yourself sick...

BearimyJeremy · 23/02/2020 16:32

They're quite fatty so maybe you got one that was more fat than meat if that makes sense? Maybe hang on to the manky bit and package in case you do get sick. But tbh I think that's super unlikely. It's well within date so shouldn't be rotten.

Badtasteflump · 23/02/2020 16:37

It was brown rather than red - and tasted weird. Pic to follow!

bobstersmum · 23/02/2020 16:40

You have eaten pepperami before? You do know they are rank don't you?

Thefaceofboe · 23/02/2020 16:45

Pepperami are rank anyway Grin

Badtasteflump · 23/02/2020 16:46

You probably can’t tell from this but it’s dull brown rather than peperami red colour...

When i was younger i used to eat the pepperami and then spend the nect few hours sucking all the pepperami flavour out of the plastic wrapping.

Yes i was a weird child.

Alsoco · 23/02/2020 16:55

I love how you wanted your husband to try it as well to see if it made him ill 😂 if I’m going down you’re coming with me... 😂

gamerchick · 23/02/2020 16:58

Showed DH and he threw it in the bin and refused to try it to test out if it's ok or not - my thinking is if he's ok, it must be ok,

Grin really love this, bless your husband Grin

Badtasteflump · 23/02/2020 16:58

Well now you’re making it sound bad Alsoco but it made sense at the time Blush

Alsoco · 23/02/2020 17:01

Ha sorry I didn’t mean to make you feel bad it’s inspirational and I will now be doing the same thing with my husband 🤣

BearimyJeremy · 23/02/2020 17:02

I see what you mean. That doesn't look like the pepparamis I know and love... Can you tweet it to pepperami? Maybe get a replacement one at least.
