Stick your middle finger up (i.e - swearing) without pinning your index finger and the others down with your thumb? I can’t and have just been told I’m a freak for not being able to do so yet I don’t get how it’s possible as my index finger always twitches like it wants to cohabit with the middle finger to join an equally offensive V sign ShockConfused

I can too!

Frenchw1fe · 23/02/2020 06:11

I can on my left hand, right hand is tricky( I'm left handed.)
My husband and dc can curl their tongue and spread their toes out. Not necessarily at the same time.Grin
I can't do either.

Elouera · 23/02/2020 06:11

I can. Middle fingers are straight up, but when I try it with ring fingers, they are slightly at an angle, but still sticking up without thumb helping.
(I'm not hypermobile)

HeronLanyon · 23/02/2020 06:21

Yes - play string instrument and piano wonder if that makes a difference?
When it comes it my ring fingers my little finger wants to bu up
Also and I really have to concentrate and ‘tell’ it to move down in a way that’s unusual - kind of feel my brain/muscles have some communication lag.

JudgeRindersMinder · 23/02/2020 06:26

I can do it too

AwkwardSquad · 23/02/2020 06:27

I have the "Fuck you!" gene. Grin

I can, but when I try it with my ring finger it won’t straighten fully and it’s quite uncomfortable.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/02/2020 06:29

I can do it, and I’m not a piano player or hypermobile.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 23/02/2020 06:30

Of course I had to try it, sheep that I am. Yes I can - yay!!!

QueenOfOversharing · 23/02/2020 06:32

For all the hyper mobile gang - did you know many rheumatologists tell hypermobile kids about David Beckham's hypermobility to help them see it as a positive (these are kids with hypermobility syndrome of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, so it causes them pain)?

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 23/02/2020 06:33

I can also curl my tongue and into a roll AND into three sections like clover! When, I would like to know, will I be called upon to apply these very important skills?

QueenOfOversharing · 23/02/2020 06:35

Shit. I forgot to report on my finger dexterity. Right hand - can raise all fingers independently, but ring finger doesn't extend fully. Left hand same but ring finger much more restricted. Was hypermobile when younger but joints much stiffer now. Son has EDS.

QueenOfOversharing · 23/02/2020 06:37

@DontTellThemYourNamePike there may come a type in our dystopian future that we are separated from each other, according to these abilities. You know, for science.

EnglishRain · 23/02/2020 06:40

I can do this too. (another piano player).

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 23/02/2020 06:43

I am so glad I clicked on this thread! Grin

I can sort of lift every finger without using my thumb but my middle and ring finger are much more comfortable with the thumb. Maybe that’s why I never got the hang of the piano...

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 23/02/2020 06:44

@Queen Grin

HeronLanyon · 23/02/2020 06:47

BREAKING NEWS. Reports are coming in of a seemingly orchestrated wave of rude gestures sweeping the U.K. often performed by women and often with no identifiable target.
A high ranking government source ‘we just don’t know if this is collective hysteria or something more sinister. Some have described seeing something akin to alien signals. We ask the public for calm’

This story will be updated.

QueenOfOversharing · 23/02/2020 06:48

pulls curtains Hmm

welliesarefuntowear · 23/02/2020 06:52

Just tried it, I can but the only thing I can play on the piano is chopsticks

differentnameforthis · 23/02/2020 06:56

I can, on both hands. No special gifts like being able to play piano here, though.

DailyKegelReminder · 23/02/2020 06:59

Yes. My poor DD is sleeping blissfully in her cot next to the bed and Im sticking my middle finger up In her direction...

ChilliMayo · 23/02/2020 07:01

I can do it with both hands.
Practice makes perfect.

sashh · 23/02/2020 07:03

Yes I can.

I have a mental image of women all over the country flipping the bird at their computers / phones / tablets.

I can also do the spock split fingers thing.

Oh and pick things up with my feet.

billybagpuss · 23/02/2020 07:20

Another pianist that can, the 4th finger thing mentioned up thread is because the little finger and the 4th finger share a tendon so the 4th finger is very weak and only musicians ever have any need to use it independently. If you lay your hand flat downwards and try and raise it, it won’t want to go 😂

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/02/2020 07:27

I can move all my fingers individually. The middle finger is no problem but the ring finger stands at a slight as angle. I can have all fingers up and bend the little finger down with no difficulty. Both hands. I have never played a music instrument but I can knit.

timetochangeagainforever · 23/02/2020 07:29

I can on my right hand but not my left 🤔
