Camping in Cornwall

LittleMachine · 22/02/2020 21:09

Lapland by far.

TeetotalKoala · 22/02/2020 21:16

We love Croix de vieux Pont in France. Started going there when the DC were just 3 and almost 5.
Have also done Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands. We stay with Eurocamp. At Beekse Bergen, there's a safari park attached and you get unlimited entry, as well as unlimited entry to Speelaand, which is an amusement park/huge play park. Both are drivable in about three hours from Calais. We're going back to Croix de vieux Pont for our fourth visit in the summer. We booked it last month.

We skiied for the first time this year. It was declared the best holiday ever by all four of us. DC are 6 and 8 now. Already planning for next year.

When they were smaller, we loved Mullion in Cornwall (with Parkdean). Kynance Cove is breathtaking. As is all of Lizard Point.

Jordan- last year when DD had just turned 8. We just arrived, rented a car drove down to the Dead Sea picked a hotel and took a room for 2 nights, chilled out by the pool floated in the Dead Sea which was an amazing experience. Drove to Petra checked into another hotel for 2 nights ride camels through Petra, wandering through that ancient city was absolutely mesmerising. Drove to Aman, gave back the rental car and checked into a hotel for 3 nights and explored the city by foot/taxi- loads of museums and cultural/religious buildings, saw the hand of Hercules ate a lot of street food!

Was as near to backpacking/travelling in my younger child free days as I’m going to get until DD is older. I prefer this kind of holiday than a package resort where you don’t need to leave the hotel complex. This year we are heading to Kos for a beach holiday but next summer when DD will be 10 I really want to travel a bit in Europe by train across several countries stopping on the way to explore and then fly back to the uk but that may mean back packs are more suited to this kind of travelling so I’m waiting until this time next year to decide if it will be doable or not

Water park resorts. We’ve been to loads in different countries mostly with very nice hotels attached. We’ve seen lots of fab places (because we do actually leave the resort to explore!) but also had lots of fun in the water parks Smile

BathTangle · 22/02/2020 21:39

If you ask my 11 year old, he would struggle to decide between the safari in Tanzania with a few days on Zanzibar at the end and the camping trip to Shropshire....just goes to show it isn't about where it is or how expensive it is!!

Centerparcs in Holland was great too. Basically what makes a good holiday for us is one where we are all able to properly relax together and get into the holiday "zone" with some funny stories to tell when you come home.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 22/02/2020 21:53

Lots of different places mentioned and all sound fab. I’m looking for inspiration the more the better.

Jaz aquaviva in Egypt. Went last year Dd 9&10 loved it! Water park on site. Best hotel. Very clean and we went swimming with dolphins in the wild

TeetotalKoala · 22/02/2020 22:00

@BerryPieandCustard

We don't hire cars or get transfers when we fly. We prefer to use public transport. It's usually cheaper and we get to experience more of the country than hiding away in a car, but I appreciate that it only really works with countries with a decent network.

We were skiing last week and got a bus/train/cab (for the last 11km as no buses from the train station) to our ski resort from Salzburg airport, and then travelled by train from there to Vienna via Salzburg for a couple of days in Vienna before flying home.
Our DCs are 6 and 8 and I bought them wheely cases that convert into backpacks so that they could choose how to carry their bags (Mini Max from Amazon). Both DC kept in control of their own luggage at all times. Including getting on and off trains. DH and I weren't asked to carry/pull them once. DS2 opted to carry his like a backpack up and down stairs, DS1 mainly used the grab handle.

I'm so keen to inter rail across Europe with them for a few weeks but my DH isn't sure. We had a tiny taster last week and I think he might be softening.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 22/02/2020 22:07

Static caravan on Cornwall and 5 star AI Turkey. The weeks 5 star AI in Turkey was actually a few hundred pound cheaper than the week on Cornwall

CherryPavlova · 22/02/2020 22:09

Depends on ages.
Centre Parcs in Europe.
Neilsons (Sivota was lovely)
Club Med ( if they still exist)
Souse in Tunisia
Annecy
Lake District
Iceland.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 22/02/2020 22:09

Interrailing with DS. We hit London, Paris, Zurich, Prague and Berlin, then came back via a Eurocamp in Holland where we met up with DH. Loved every second of it, we both did, and it was so good for us to travel together in that way.

whiteroseredrose · 22/02/2020 22:10

Northumberland with Hadrians Wall, Bamburgh beach, Cragside, Lindisfarne, and Alnwick Castle (Harry Potter) and Gardens. And the Loire Valley with Chateaux, cycling, canoeing etc.

elQuintoConyo · 22/02/2020 22:13

South of France near Carcassonne. Sleepy village. We mostly:
Swam every day in a free municipal pool, lake or river.
Had picnics in various places.
Climbed up huge Cathar castles (Peyreperteuse, Montsegur and Puilaurens were favourites, Queribus was just too damn hot that day!).
Carcassonne itself was amazing.
Went round two huge caves.
Jazz festival in tiny mountain village.
Medieval festival in an old castle. We saw jousting and ds tried archery wearing an archers glove, saw a falconer in action.
Pizza from the pizza van in our village.
Flea markets where DS picked up some crap with his pocket money Grin
Card games in the evening, eating dinner outside.

We're lucky we can rent a friend's house cheaply and it's only a 3-hour drive from where we live. Otherwise we've lived camping in Spain, especially around Gerona (Olot, very small campsite next to a field FULL of bunnies, and in Huesca and Horta de San Joan which has a fantastic bike route and lake to swim in, too).

So for us: nature, biking, swimming, festivals, castles, history, great food, foreign traditions, walking the dog! We're simple folk Grin

Greenbutterlfy566 · 22/02/2020 22:13

I forgot to mention age -7 and up

Efteling in The Netherlands - the woodland accommodation is like centerparcs with fairy tale magic but in an actual cottage rather than an upmarket hut and actually clean!

Lake Garda was my favourite summer trip

Bluestone for short breaks, or Snowdonia for mountains, the drive up from Machynlleth upwards is my favourite road in all the world, crossing into Gwynedd the mountains just take my breath away every time.

GnomeDePlume · 22/02/2020 22:29

Mobile home holidays in France. Loved campsite holidays. Lots of facilities and lots to do off site: castles, markets, standing stones, Roman ruins.

KindKylie · 22/02/2020 22:34

We've had some amazing camping trips to Cornwall tbh!

LovingLola · 22/02/2020 22:36

My pair still say Cornwall.
They were 7 and 10
