Campervan round Scotland.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/02/2020 16:19

Lapland. DS also loves Butlins!

fussychica · 23/02/2020 16:26

No contest. Disney World Florida for his 7th birthday. Just amazing.
We also had a fab holiday with him in St Lucia and a few in Carbis Bay, Cornwall.
Lived in Spain for 8 years from when he was 10 so every day was like a holidayGrin

cptartapp · 23/02/2020 16:32

We are lucky enough to have at least four holidays a year but the most memorable after years of beach and city breaks worldwide for me, was Iceland.
Quad biking in the lava fiends was particularly memorable.
The DC themselves would probably say our annual camping trip to Harrogate with their cousins!

okiedokieme · 23/02/2020 16:36

Alaska, back packing

okiedokieme · 23/02/2020 16:38

For primary aged, road trips, various European countries

Paddy1234 · 23/02/2020 16:39

Duinrell in Holland - went for many years. The children, friends and us enjoyed it so much.

Paddy1234 · 23/02/2020 16:40

We went for about 10 years - children always said it was there best holidays ever

SquashedOrange · 23/02/2020 16:42

Took my two (4&6) to Florida in August and it was the best family holiday we've ever had!

My other favourite holiday, was a week in Devon the year before.

MrsMoggy · 23/02/2020 16:47

Disneyland paris, benidorm and Barcelona for abroad
Haven and butlins for uk. My 7 year old likes to be entertained every minute and isn’t particularly outdoorsy so indoor activities a must. His favourite place is probably blackpool!

PickleSarnie · 23/02/2020 16:49

Skiing definitely. Although the kids rave about our holidays to Cornwall. I absolutely love Northumberland. Miles and miles of beaches and hardly any people.

Also France. Love love love France (and not just because I share a similar opinion on cheese and wine to the French) We've stayed in Eurocamp type places near the beach.

OverByYer · 23/02/2020 16:49

Florida theme parks hands down.
Didn’t think it would be my cup of tea at all but we all loved it. You are enjoying yourselves together the whole time rather than kids clubs etc;
We’ve been in August and October ( extended half term) Oct was the best although on the odd days the water parks closed because it was too cold at 20 degrees!

Have also enjoyed our camping holidays in France and an AI in Ibiza

TattiePants · 23/02/2020 16:50

DS won’t fly or sail so for the last 6 years we’ve adapted our holidays to suit him and every holiday has been amazing. Particularly as some are countries I previously wouldn’t have considered as a main holiday destination.

The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria and France have the right mix of lovely towns, history, culture, outdoor swimming, water activities, places to cycle, theme parks, great food etc. We usually spend 3 weeks travelling around with a stop off at a Center Parcs on the way home (their absolute favourite).

This year it’s Luxembourg, the Black Forest, Switzerland then CP in France.

TattiePants · 23/02/2020 16:52

@okiedokieme any particular places you would recommend for European road trips? We do one every year and always looking for new ideas.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 23/02/2020 16:57

Not as fancy as some of these, but last September we took a cheap caravan in Seaton in Devon

Weather was glorious, we were on the beach, looking for fossils, exploring Dartmoor, at play farms.

DS was three and asks to go back weekly

ritzbiscuits · 23/02/2020 16:58

Trip to Denmark for the week last year. We visited Lego House twice, Legoland, Copenhagen Aquarium and various other bits and pieces.

Would highly recommend if your children are mad about Lego.

TattiePants · 23/02/2020 17:03

@elQuintoConyo I’m bookmarking your south of France and Spain holidays! They sound perfect for one of our road trips.

OneEpisode · 23/02/2020 17:09

We stayed with a family member near the seaside. Lots of fun. For instance, they loaned us their string and gave us bacon and we went crab catching. They stayed in buckets of seawater for a while (with bacon) before release onto the jetty. Then screaming/running away fun..

Greenbutterlfy566 · 23/02/2020 17:26

Would a road trip to Europe be any good in winter time ?

OP posts:
Titsywoo · 23/02/2020 17:31

When the kids were under 7 we only really went camping with friends which they always loved. Isle of Wight was very popular too. Favourites as they've gotten older are New York, Centre Parcs with friends and a Disney Cruise. They weren't fans of Florida - too hot at 35 degrees in May and they are both scaredy cats so Disney and Universal were wasted on them. Really hoping to do a cruise next summer after DD finishes her GCSEs. This year we are off to Duinrell with friends so glad several people rate it highly!

TattiePants · 23/02/2020 17:35

@greenbutterlfy566 I think you can do a road trip anytime as the scenery and activities are so varied. The weather in Northern Europe is likely to be similar to the uk but Italy and Spain in winter is lovely. Depending on the time of year you might need snow tyres / chains for driving in Germany, Austria, Switzerland etc.

jadey0885 · 23/02/2020 17:38

To be honest. I've never had a family holiday. Could never afford itConfused

Greenbutterlfy566 · 23/02/2020 18:01

Tattie- thanks

My two have loved all inclusive holidays in the Greek islands just swimming, lazing and eating their body weights in random food combinations but also like city breaks - they were fascinated by Berlin at 11 and 13.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/02/2020 19:05

In no particular order

Iceland
Northern Ireland
Mauritius
Paris
