What have been your best family holidays?

A quaint little beach cottage at Croyde Bay, North Devon in 1996

It was 25 deg + and sunny every single day for a fortnight

The kids were both primary school age and we would walk the 5 mins to the beach with boogie boards and a picnic in swimmers at 8am every day

Best holiday ever

Make that 2006 Blush

LER83 · 23/02/2020 19:26

If I ask the children they will say centre parcs! Even tops Disneyland for them! For me both times we went to North Wales. We were very lucky with the weather - scenery is just amazing! With 2 children on the autism spectrum we tend to repeat the same holidays!

Camping in Germany/Austria. Beautiful countries and lovely people.

" When you open your vacuum-packed chicken, there can be a strong smell from the packaging simply because the chicken breasts are packed together in such large quantities and the products have been contained. It's also due to the process we use to remove the oxygen from the packaging as we vacuum-pack to keep the product fresh (usually quite a strong smell but means we don't add salt, water or preservatives to our chicken).

We advise leaving the meat 5-15 minutes once opened and by then the smell will not be noticeable!"

I wonder how many people throw away perfectly good meat due to not knowing this!

Titsywoo · 23/02/2020 19:42

Obviously not all meat is sealed/prepared this way but there is a smell due to lack of oxygen for most meats when first opened

Stompythedinosaur · 23/02/2020 19:46

Costa Rica, by far.

But we also enjoyed Egypt, Barcelona, Butlins and camping in the UK.

Bellesavage · 23/02/2020 19:46

Disneyworld, mainly because DC have allergies and they cater amazingly for them. Everywhere else we go is always a nightmare and we end up having to take tons of food, even if AI.

Another vote for efteling.

I could list lots of holidays, salzburg was brilliant, South of France etc but for actual children ie perhaps under 15 the efteling in Netherlands is brilliant.

I think children and teens would enjoy it but it's so utterly magical I reckon up to 12, 13 is best time. So that gets my vote.

It's far better than Disney and europa Park.

I'd save europa Park for teens. It's really good fun as is Disney but it doesn't have the woods and the real fairy tale feel...

Snowdropdelight · 23/02/2020 19:55

BTW europa Park was 'extremely' expensive.

The efteling is far more reasonable, excellent quality accommodation, attention to detail is exceptional.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/02/2020 20:05

Oh and the Channel Islands, we did Guernsey and Sark,

MondeoFan · 23/02/2020 20:08

Every holiday
From caravan sites
To Spain with water park
To Florida
To Lapland
To Butlins
Every single one has been fab in its own right

Greenbutterlfy566 · 23/02/2020 22:05

I’ve never heard of Efteling before mumsnet Blush

Fowey, Cornwall
Cotes Vermeille, France
Disney

Bluejuicyapple · 23/02/2020 22:26

Mine loved Miami, Thailand and Amsterdam. They really disliked Disney and we cut it short

TeetotalKoala · 23/02/2020 22:44

We've looked at Duinrell a couple of times and I was angling to book it for this year's summer holiday, but DH really want to go back to Croix Dr vieux Pont. It's good to see it getting so many positive mentions though, as it's definitely on our list. We loved the Netherlands, having gone to Beekse Bergen there. Our next door caravan neighbours raved about Eftling when we were there, but we'd gone by public transport so didn't have a car to get there. DH was underwhelmed by Disneyland Paris, but we love a decent theme park. The DCs favourite is Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which happily is only 40 minutes from the grandparents!

Zenithbear · 23/02/2020 22:49

Cruises
Theme Parks
Water park on site
City breaks
UK seaside
Anything nature/wildlife/animals

Greenbutterlfy566 · 24/02/2020 19:34
