My partner is going away at the weekend and I want to make some nice meals for one , but easy (no point alot of effort for one person) I am thinking definitely garlic prawns if anyone has a recipe?? (Partner hates prawns - this is my chance!!!!)
What else does everyone eat when they are by themselves?!

All the chillies because DH breaks out in a sweat at the sight of a green pepper lol

Stir fry, paella, anything I can bung in the big wok all at once, sometimes I just wing it Smile

fartyface · 20/02/2020 07:48

Smoked salmon scrambled eggs

WhatHaveIFound · 20/02/2020 07:53

Stir fry & noodles because it's easy. DH also doesn't like prawns or blue cheese so i eat those when i'm by myself.

Honestly? Usually toast or a bagel or something. Just love not having to cook!! Possibly pasta or soup if hungry. Such luxury!!

Angie6868 · 20/02/2020 07:58

Normally just pasta or a ready meal. I'd love a recipe for garlic prawns as well if anyone has one

Ohffs66 · 20/02/2020 07:58

Mainly toast! Or I have a little picnic, nice cheeses, crackers, olives, pate, bottle of red wine.

userxx · 20/02/2020 07:59

This is what I miss about living alone, i could eat beans on toast 5 days a week. I like food to be easy to eat and easy to clean up.

nameymcnamechangeagain · 20/02/2020 08:00

I also tend to stick with noodles or I treat myself to a nice fillet steak, cut up and have with penne, extra virgin olive oil and a bit of salt and black pepper! Have also been known to just take a quick walk down the chip shop and get myself a huge burger and chips 😂

DelurkingAJ · 20/02/2020 08:00

I normally raid the freezer for leftovers. Otherwise something very simple to avoid filling up on toast!

Queenparsnip · 20/02/2020 08:00

Prawns, cherry tomatoes and courgette sautéed with garlic and chilli then mixed into spaghetti. I had this when dh was out last week. So delicious.

nameymcnamechangeagain · 20/02/2020 08:01

I love M&S egg noodles, or chilli and coriander ones, but if soy sauce and some chicken and I love it although I’m sure most would add veg!! I bought DP a little pot of chilli and garlic prawns from M&S the other week with the mind of chucking them with some noodles, I don’t like prawns but they looked really nice!

AllNewThings · 20/02/2020 08:01

All the things. 🐷

GroggyLegs · 20/02/2020 08:01

A massive bowl of cornflakes.

Bliss.

zigzagbetty · 20/02/2020 08:03

Fish finger sandwich! Or a huge bowl of cereal Grin

ClubfootMaestro · 20/02/2020 08:03

If I’m home alone I treat myself to a massive takeaway

Nutkin123 · 20/02/2020 08:04

Stuffed pasta (the posh ones from Aldi are the best) and mussels. DP hates both so I go wild.

Mummyneedsacoffee · 20/02/2020 08:05

Jacket potato with tuna and cheese - really boring lol

LaurieFairyCake · 20/02/2020 08:09

Wotsits
Beer
Cheese on toast with chillis on top

Or hot curry

MinnieMountain · 20/02/2020 08:11

Red Thai curry with sweet potato and carrots.

Sweet and sour vegetable stir fry.

Downunderduchess · 20/02/2020 08:22

That sounds so delicious @Queenparsnip I’m going to make it tomorrow!

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/02/2020 08:25

A big bag of Doritos and dips.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/02/2020 08:25

Garlic prawns is one of the easiest and delicious things to cook and is something I have as much as I can afford to (and we - I don't eat any differently whether alone or if DP is here. I know this is a lighthearted thread, but I'm constantly astonished about threads like this, where it appears that so many women are cooking food that they don't want to eat themselves, that takes more effort than they want to make, to please their male partner. If he wants something big or faffy, he cooks it himself surely? If you want prawns, beans on toast, bits of cheese or gin and crisps, you just have it, and if you're feeling generous, you say 'I'm having beans on toast, do you want some? and he says yes or no. And if he says no, he sorts out what he wants himself?)

Anyway, back to the prawns. Olive oil in a frying pan, couple of tablespoons maybe, whatever you want to end up eating soaked into nice bread, medium heat, add some chopped garlic as much as you like, couple of cloves, fry for a bit until softened, then tip in as many prawns as you want to eat, fry for a couple of minutes until they look cooked. Add some smoked and/or hot paprika, maybe about half a teaspoon, stir and voila. If you like chilli, you could put some chilli in with the garlic. Eat with crusty bread.

If you have some tomatoes, maybe put some in with the garlic if you want some - if we have some cherry tomatoes that are a bit soft to go in a salad, but still OK cooked, it's a good way of using them up and allows you to pretend that it's healthy because its got veg in.

4forkssake · 20/02/2020 08:58

Fish finger sandwich

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/02/2020 09:00

(no point alot of effort for one person)

Well yes there is if you have a fancy for something nice?
I live alone and make myself full roast dinners or other fancy meals if that's what I want.

Or I might just have a bowl of Shreddies.

(The same when I was in a relationship too)

Justkeeprollingalong · 20/02/2020 09:09

Beans on toast with an egg on top.
