Keep me company in hospital?

Just that really...

I have a chronic condition so I'm a bit of a frequent flyer but have had two admissions since the beginning of the year which is making me a bit fed up.
Likely to be here for the best part of two weeks.
Some distracting chat would be lovely to cheer me up...

Morning op! Was your night quieter than mine? Took dpuppy out at 230 in quite a wind! Whispering 'have a wee' in the blackness of a storm isn't my idea of a great night out!

Nacknick · 17/02/2020 10:42

Great news about the new drug, unfortunately I'm not eligible but wonderful for those that are.

I'll take a look at The Boys later. I've been working my way through Leverage but could do with a change.

Still quiet here....too damn quiet...

Oh that doesn't sound fun @Whynosnowyet! Thanks for reminding me of why we don't have a dog 😂

We had a stay in isolation (at UCLH) and the views were absolutely spectacular.

Rest up, read lots, binge watch Netflix and I hope time doesn't drag too much for you.

Orchidflower1 · 17/02/2020 14:03

Hi @Nacknick how is your day going? It’s belting down with rain again here.

I hope the food is not too bad? Do you have visitors who can bring you treats in? Are you on a higher fat diet?

If you’re after some lengthy Netflix stuff try The Irishman. It’s about 8years (3.5 hours!) long. DH loved it and lots of people at work have enjoyed it but I couldn’t get into it as I kept nodding off. Not the greatest review I know but it may pass the afternoon!

Nacknick · 17/02/2020 15:16

Thanks for checking in @Orchidflower1. My day is going much like the others so far - IVs, physio, lots of coughing, temperature spike, paracetamol, wait to feel a bit better...
I don't envy @RedDhalia's day with the bowel treatment though - hope you're surviving Red
The food is fine and they keep trying to feed us up so plenty of snacks. Too far from home for visitors but I brought chocolate with me and when I feel a bit better I will go to the hospital M&S and buy delicious things.
The long film might be just what I need although I fall asleep watching films quite easily - I once famously fell asleep in the cinema 10 minutes after the start of an action movie - so perhaps I'll save it til I've got a bit more stamina!
Hope your isolation stay wasn't the result of anything serious or long-running @Crunchymum

Loving this thread.

Not sure if anyone is still reading this but...
Day 5 in the big white house...

Falling into a bit of a routine now. Waking early-ish (I do enjoy that first quiet morning cup of tea). Busy throughout the morning but still spiking temperatures around lunch time which makes the afternoons a bit of a wash-out.

Other than that the sun is shining and I think I might watch a film later...

What's happening in your world @ittooshallpass?

How are you feeling @RedDhalia?

All your updates have brought back memories of my ds as a baby. He caught whooping cough at 2 weeks old then bouts of bronchilitis... In and out for 10 months. I stayed in as ebf. Got my meals for free and brought to the room. Own room too! Very isolating, expressed and tube fed ds myself. Sometimes didn't see anyone for hours.
Ds was 18 last August and joined the army last October! Doing amazing - like he was born to be a fighter tbh!
Thanks for the memories op - tough back then but so so proud now!

RedDhalia · 18/02/2020 12:03

Hi @Nacknick

I've picked up an infection so I feel a bit pants today. Waiting for one of the medical doctors to come over and look at me.

I'm ok though, just feel a bit up and down, like I'm hungover, which is very unfair considering I've not drunk in forever!

I'm on day 6 today and feel the same in terms of getting in to routine.

I have a view of the car park.. can you post a picture of your view please - I'm very nosy like that 😁

Orchidflower1 · 18/02/2020 18:02

@Nacknick I read your last post in the big brother voice🤪🤣

MamanSparkles · 18/02/2020 18:17

@Nacknick and @RedDhalia hope you are both doing ok? I'm also a serial hospital visitor from a chronic condition, and pretty bored at home 'resting' to avoid another admission (with a toddler Hmm) Can I keep you company for the next couple of weeks?
Do you have audio books? If you are allowed to bring your own blanket or bedspread in that always makes me feel less hospitaly.
Flowers for both of you.

Nacknick · 18/02/2020 19:03

Hey, we're getting a nice little gang together.

@RedDhalia sorry to hear about the infection, hope they have given you some nice drugs

@Orchidflower1 I wondered if anyone would get the BB reference 😂

@Mamansparkles sorry to hear you're suffering too, especially with a toddler to look after.

I keep meaning to try audio books although I'm quite a big reader anyway. I guess you can close your eyes with an audio book.

Feeling a bit sorry for myself this evening, miss home and my family

Sorry you’re feeling a bit down in the dumps OP. I’m guessing they’ve put you where there is a bed that meets your needs even if it’s miles from home. That’s a bit rubbish for you. Are you allowed visitors if your family could get to you or not because of infection?

Have you had the magic paracetamol today?
🌺

Nacknick · 18/02/2020 20:01

Yes specialist team is at a hospital not too close to home. I am allowed visitors but it's just too far really and lots of people are away doing half-term things. It's a bit of a double-edged sword anyway - lovely when they're here, crap when they go.

I've only had normal paracetamol today - boo! Could have asked for the whizzy version but they were quite busy and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

Nacknick · 18/02/2020 20:04

I'll try and end today on a more positive note, so nice things from today:

  • I feel a teeny tiny bit better so may have turned a corner
  • there was a cracking rain storm this afternoon so that was fun to watch
  • had a nice online chat with a work colleague today and we made each other laugh which was nice

There, that's better 😁

And I've been meaning to reply to @Whynosnowyet - I can't imagine how tough that must have been. Glad you came out the other side ok Flowers

When I was last in hospital, I quite enjoyed the food. Ie, ordering it one day and getting it the next. Nice not having to prepare it and clear up afterwards. Also, nice not having to think ‘What we are going to eat tonight’.

cultkid · 18/02/2020 20:09

Just sending some love
Maybe ask for some sleeping pills if you're not sleeping deeply enough
I used to go out in the hospital my husband would take me and occasionally I would go out in the town between meds

I have been watching win the wild or something like that on bbc

How's your pain?

Nacknick · 18/02/2020 20:09

@Standrewsschool - brilliant!

OP posts:
Nacknick · 18/02/2020 20:18

Yes the food thing is good - although I know the menu a bit too well now. But it's great not having to think about it.

I will go out a bit when I start to feel better - not really been up to it. Luckily I have the sleeping ability of a hibernating bear, so that's not a problem. And no pain either.

Sounds like a breeze huh! 😂

Just popping in to see if anyone wants anything from the trolley. 😂

Hope you guys are all ok this evening. I spent a huge amount of time with my DS in Great Ormond St & other hospitals while he was younger. Had no support & it was a bloody isolating experience. So I'm thinking of you!

I was in A&E 10 days ago - but only for 7 hours. I was just glad they shoved me in a very comfy bed.

Here are 2 therapy dogs totally not therapy dogs who can come visit.

Standrewsschool · 18/02/2020 20:43

Where are the therapy dog pictures?

My son was in GOSH 17 years ago. Really good hospital. He was there during the month of February so I always recall our time there at this time of year.

Also after my op, read a lot. Got me back into reading. And I did some adult colouring books. Found them quite therapeutic.

That’s adult as in not a child’s colouring book, not ‘adult’ as in porn!
