What’s everyone doing this half term?

Nothing tomorrow - may give the house a really good clean; it's suffering a bit since I took on my 2nd job.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Tuesday (I think) to see the new polar bear. The forecast for then looks ok, at the moment.

Work Weds and Thurs so the girls will probably mooch about the house.

Magna on Friday if the weather's not too bad - we'll see.

Work Saturday.

Prep for back to school and work on Sunday :(

Charles11 · 16/02/2020 10:08

Mine have homework to get through!
Apart from that,
Visiting family
Day out to longleat
Couple of walks and picnics if weather is ok

MadisonAvenue · 16/02/2020 10:08

Avoiding my son!
Don’t worry, there’s no child neglect going on. He’s a teacher or will be once his PGCE year is over in July and can be difficult* so having him at home all week is never easy.

  • It’s nothing to do with his course, he always has been.
Cecilia2016 · 16/02/2020 10:17

Planning a day out to the theme park for my 5 years old son who has been suffering with serious chickenpox since last week Saturday. He missed school the all week and thankfully it is drying up now and desperate to get out.

Monr0e · 16/02/2020 10:24

Half term for us was last week so today will be spent getting ready to go back to school tomorrow.

We went to centreparcs Smile

gamerwidow · 16/02/2020 10:28

Nothing special, I always find this half term a tricky one because it's a bit cold and miserable.
We went swimming yesterday, my mums coming over today, I have tickets for a children's poetry event at the library tomorrow but DDs not keen, Tuesday will be a lazy day, Wednesday/Thursday I'm working and DD is at the childminder, Friday my friend and her dog are coming over for lunch and a walk up the meadows, Saturday DD has a build a bear party and sleepover round her friends house.

Lemontwist · 16/02/2020 10:33

First couple of days having a major sort out and move round. The kids would normally hate this but this time it will mean they will be in their own rooms, not sharing anymore so they are totally on board!
We're going to the cinema Wednesday while the toddler is in nursery but as yet nothing else planned. So looking forward to a few days off work through & spending time with the kids Smile

NorthernPowermouse · 16/02/2020 10:38

I’m taking DS away for a few days, DD is at her Childminder’s, then ILs are coming to spend some time with them.

I have about 5 bags for two nights BlushGrin

wendz86 · 16/02/2020 11:04

I’m working Monday to Wednesday so kids with their dad Monday and childminder tues- wed . Thurs got family visiting . Not sure after that , might take them swimming .

Greenbutterlfy566 · 16/02/2020 11:16

Northern - can I ask where your going ?

OP posts:
chinateapot · 16/02/2020 11:21

We were going to centerparcs. But then I ended up in hospital with pneumonia. So that got cancelled. Later in the week my daughter is having chemo.
So I will mostly be feeling like shit and being miserable. And feeling bad for the kids that it’s another utterly awful school holiday.

gamerwidow · 16/02/2020 11:23

chinateapot That is shit and I hope the rest of the year gets better for you.

chinateapot · 16/02/2020 11:27

It will be the first and probably last time I ever do this but I have decided that once we’re all well enough to enjoy it we’re going to have our trip to centerparcs straight away even if it means taking kids out of school. Never thought I would take them out of school for a holiday (and both kids attendance is currently shocking as we also spent 7 weeks in Germany for radiotherapy just before Christmas) but we really really need some family time. So it will get better!

Greenbutterlfy566 · 16/02/2020 11:30

China- I would definitely take them
Out of school.

Never been to centre parcs before always wondered what it’s like there.

Monroe-what was centre parcs like?

OP posts:
chinateapot · 16/02/2020 11:37

We’ve been a few times to centerparcs and love it. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but we like spending lots of time in the pool, riding bikes and eating nice food in our villa watching squirrels. It’s just a really easy happy break.

gamerwidow · 16/02/2020 11:38

100% take them out of school, it's exceptional circumstances and shame on anyone who tries to stop you.

RightOnTheEdge · 16/02/2020 11:44

The first few days not much really. I've had a superhero movie binge with ds yesterday while dd was at a sleepover.
I'm going to have a good tidy today and make a nice dinner. The dc are in their pj's on the Xbox.
Going to stay with my parents next week for a few days and hopefully we will take them to clip n climb and visit the Superhero exhibition at the Royal Armouries.

Monr0e · 16/02/2020 11:55

Exactly as chinateapot describes (you should definitely take them out of school, best wishes for a healthy rest of the year x)

My dc's are 13 and 9 so a bit older
We generally tend to have lazy mornings in the lodge, feeding the wildlife, going swimming every day and at least once at night. And then book a few activities but not loads. We take a boot full if shopping and have one or two meals out while we are there.

NorthernPowermouse · 16/02/2020 12:11

Green - we’re off to Northumberland. Ds is v excited! I’m hoping the weather picks up...though it’s not as bad as I thought today.

IggyAce · 16/02/2020 12:20

Indoor crazy golf tomorrow.
Tuesday is DS birthday so it will be his choice.
If weather holds hoping to visit Beamish and Fountains Abbey.
Also have dental and optician appointments at the end of the week.

Ohmymg · 16/02/2020 12:23

Off to a little log cabin in Northumberland, just me ds and the dog. Lots of walks, monopoly and movies around the fire. Bliss!

Greenbutterlfy566 · 16/02/2020 13:13

Those that are going away- enjoy!

OP posts:
happypotamus · 16/02/2020 13:22

Tomorrow we are waiting in for the new washing machine to be delivered. Other days we are going to an activity at the library, going to a local museum, going shoe shopping, my mum is coming one day, DH is having one of the days off work too so we can all do something together but I don't know what yet, possibly Rainbow and Brownie interest badges, tidying up before my mum comes.

LoonyLunaLoo · 16/02/2020 13:34

Tue- visiting my mum and going swimming
Wed- eye test and cinema to see Sonic
Thurs- Premier Inn breakfast and climbing with friends
Fri- Ice skating

Not sure about tomorrow, the weather’s awful and there’s not a lot around here to do with older children (DS is 10). We need to do something though as DS is an only child and gets bored when we just stay at home and we’re having a bit of a lazy day today, so I’ll be watching this thread for ideas!

mindutopia · 16/02/2020 13:37

Tomorrow is ds’s 2nd birthday (he’s 2) so we’re going to a farm park with dd (who is 7 but will humour us because it’s his birthday), then special dinner and cake. Tuesday to Thursday I work so holiday club. But I have off Fridays so no idea yet what we’ll do. Hopefully something outside if it isn’t pissing it down.
