I don't know if anyone else has made one!
BA2665 has missed LGW and is circling again

No idea but it'll have landed at Brize Norton I expect.
The Birmingham police have been on a longer than usual trip for a police helicopter down to Worcestershire and over into Warwickshire

BA9157 from LHR to Bournemouth!? Wonder if they are parking up there.

Correct, BA are parking up some of their 747-400s at Bournemouth.

Interesting to at least some military fast jet traffic is displayed on that app...I wonder if it is fighters operating in the "open" airspace where there's a chance of conflict with civilian traffic and they are broadcasting their position in order to avoid a confliction...

I’ve never used Freedar before or seen the flight maps of military aircraft - I grew up near the USAF bases so knew they flew quite frequently - so I am wondering what their normal is.

There are currently just two planes I. The whole of Scotland - this is just so uncanny, isn’t it?

NoGravyForYou · 01/04/2020 01:09

Anyone still up? Looking at RIFIFI30. It's a French Air Force Airbus that's just going round and round in circles.
It came from this airbase en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istres-Le_Tubé_Air_Base

Pretty interesting about it being picked as a NASA landing spot.

Let's try that link again

I give up.

The clicky link worked for me. There has been a plane circling above my house for nearly an hour now. It doesnt show up on flight radar 24. Anyone know why this would be?

NoGravyForYou · 01/04/2020 01:15

Military perhaps? I'm not sure though because they do show up from time to time. I'm not a Flightradar24 expert so probably the wrong person to try and answer 🤷🏻‍♀️

NoGravyForYou · 01/04/2020 01:28

Ooh it's stopped circling and is gaining alt, I wonder where it's off to next!

Where are the British Airways ones doing the same thing?

Where are the British Airways ones doing the same thing?

Aer Lingus and BA are both part of the IAG group.

kilisibird · 01/04/2020 08:29

Sorry I think I picked you up incorrectly. Do you mean because Ireland are getting supplies and the U.K. are not? That isn't the case; PPE has been reaching the U.K., it's just not come over on British Airways seats!

BabbleBee · 01/04/2020 08:57

This is an interesting one

@Babblebee are you using premium FR or something because that info is not coming up about that plane for me!

BabbleBee · 01/04/2020 09:03

No that’s on Freedar app, not Flightradar24

BabbleBee · 01/04/2020 09:03

It’s showing on flightradar too

notimagain · 01/04/2020 09:07

BA are doing some dedicated freighting flights on some routes , nil passengers, cargo in hold plus overhead lockers but often as not they are "wearing" normal call signs/flight numbers so you might not be able to say "oh, look, that's a BA freighter.

And a lot of cargo/pharmaceuticals/ medical equipment is now coming in in the holds of passenger services..If you're only carrying a "few" passengers it frees up weight for cargo, and on something like a 777 you can be talking about a mix of well over 40 tonnes of passengers/bags/belly cargo..

notimagain · 01/04/2020 13:59

Going back a few days to the questions about Ryanair and circuits...

I heard from a reliable source today that it was being done in order to both maintain pilot recency and also to avoid the costs associated with parking up aircraft long term, so I suspect it might be something we see on a regular basis.

Different airlines seem to be approaching these problems in a variety of different ways.

Ryanair's attempt to save money Sad

To be fair to BA, I only knew about the Aer Lingus ones because Flight Radar themselves posted it on their twitter feed.

Friend of mine is rostered on to do these flights this week - 2 cabin crew, one forward and one back, have to take 1/2 hourly walks around the cabin to ensure no shifting of freight or fire ( ?!) . Her understanding is that it is more than just in the overhead lockers.

MarchApril · 01/04/2020 21:34

This is so interesting. Only started looking at this yesterday. There are so many flights still taking place it seems. I was under the impression that almost all had stopped, apart from cargo etc
