How many times a week do you drink?

I was teetotaler until November, and I still don't drink much… On two occasions though, including this week I've had beer nearly every day… It's not a lot, not even one can…

But I'm just wondering how often people drink? And do you drink a lot and want to go? Or do you drink a little every day?

Even when I drink a little, I get a headache, so I don't overdo it.

Maybe one or two at the weekend in the evening- usually a rhubarb cider. Sometimes have friends round and have a couple of glasses of wine mid week. If I'm off work it might be a bit more. Occasional night out and I'll have 4 or 5 drinks.

Some weeks none at all. Can take it or leave it. I enjoy it but not too much or too often.

Queenparsnip · 13/02/2020 11:05

I mean if I'm off work for a week on holiday. I don't drink if I'm working!!

flossletsfloss · 13/02/2020 11:06

Hardly ever in the week. Might have one at the weekend but not every weekend. I do eat an awful lot of chocolate though!

None.

trianglular · 13/02/2020 11:07

None. I stopped because I realised I was drinking most days.

Hellokittymania · 13/02/2020 11:07

Queen, where do you get rhubarb cider? I have never had cider… But I love rhubarb! Can I buy it somewhere?

Sorry, I'm still learning about alcohol ha ha Ha. I just learned the other day that there is dark and light beer… I'm very late to these things… Grin

A couple of times a month for me.....if that. Coffee is my new alcohol 😬

Hellokittymania · 13/02/2020 11:11

Henlie coffee and I have a very deep relationship.

If you ask me about coffee, it's a whole different story…

Never during the week. Usually split a bottle of wine with DH on a Friday night once the kids are in bed.

Fere · 13/02/2020 11:15

Hardly ever. There are so many coffee places opened late into the evening in London we don't feel obliged to go to the pub any more.

Last time I went out with my girlfriends we had 1 bottle of white wine between 3 of us for the whole night.

Fere · 13/02/2020 11:18

I have my own rule - no drinking at home. My kids learned that from me and they think it sets them apart. They have drink when out but we never open countless bottles which are in the house.
I saw too many people slowly becoming dependent on alcohol being their mood booster and then soon having a bottle a night and watching the clock for more....

ScatteredMama82 · 13/02/2020 11:21

Nothing in the week unless it's a special occasion or we're on holiday. Usually have a cider with DH when he gets home from work on a Friday, and then we share a bottle of wine over dinner. Saturday evening much the same, and on Sunday probably a small glass with a roast dinner. I love wine, a bit too much, which is why I avoid it during the week!

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/02/2020 11:21

Pretty much always on Fridays and Saturdays. If I'm in on a Friday night, I'll probably have a G&T before dinner and then probably a beer or a glass of wine during the evening. If I'm out...who knows?! Similar for Saturday but I'd probably drink more than one beer/glass of wine.

During the week, I don't usually drink at home. I might split a beer with DP or have a spirit if I fancy it. I go out in the week maybe once a fortnight but don't usually have more than one.

I love alcohol. DP works in the industry and we're both proper craft beer wankers, so frequently spend weekends in local tap rooms, or doing brewery tours or tastings, beer festivals etc.
I love the taste of it, and love trying new things. Love pubs, love breweries...it's a big part of my life!

I do try to moderate though. Both DP and I are the children of alcoholics so we're very aware of the damage that can be done by drinking too much and also aware of the difference between being a big drinker, and being an alcoholic. There are a lot more non-alcoholic beers available these days and some of them are actually pretty decent so we keep a stock of those at home and I'm finally getting better at alternating with soft drinks when I'm out!

  1. Not during the week or the weekend.

0 when I’m on holiday.

0 at Christmas/family get togethers/ birthdays/weddings

I had one at my work Christmas do and wondered why I’d bothered. First time I’d had a drink in over a year.

AuntieMarys · 13/02/2020 11:28

3 days a week....2 double gins. Never wine.

SallyWD · 13/02/2020 11:38

I used to not drink for weeks (having been a bit of a boozer pre-kids) but have recently started having one glass of wine with my Sunday lunch. Rock N roll!

ComtesseDeSpair · 13/02/2020 11:40

Usually I’ll see friends Friday evening and both days of the weekend and we’ll drink then. Probably at least four bottles of wine over the course of a weekend plus a couple of cocktails. When I socialise or have work networking during the week I’ll have two or three large glasses of wine - so I usually drink at least two weeknights as well although seasonally it can be every day. I also travel for work and will sit in the hotel bar with my book and a G&T over sitting in my room on my own.

Alternatively, if I’m having a quiet week I won’t drink at all.

Like @Fere the rule I have is no drinking on my own at home because I think that can easily become an unquestioned routine. I recognise that I drink more than average and well above NHS guidelines but I’m happy with it. I’m above average fitness and health, it doesn’t impact on my day to day life, I never get drunk, I don’t crave alcohol and if I’m not out and about I just don’t drink.

Babyg1995 · 13/02/2020 11:42

None atm due to being pregnant but before was once a week a bottle of wine and snacks on a Friday if im off work and DC are away can't be alot more that happens around once a month.

TreacherousPissFlap · 13/02/2020 11:44

DH and I used to be heavy drinkers, in the days where I could trip out of bed on 5hrs sleep and put in a full and productive day.

These days I don't drink if I have work the next day, and then it will only be a couple as the hangovers are appalling

WhatKatyDidNot · 13/02/2020 11:45

Only if I go out or there is a family/friends gathering over a meal. So it could be once a week in a particular month or not at all in another. Three or four units per occasion. I get drunk very quickly though!

LouisaJenny · 13/02/2020 11:47

None.

SueEllenMishke · 13/02/2020 11:49

I drink every Sunday as we have a regular get together with friends. Sometimes just one or two but occasionally more.

I occasionally have a glass of wine on at home on Thursday/Friday/Sat (rarely all three) anf usually have a 'big' night out one a month or so.

There are 2/3 weekends where I live when we all end up drinking a lot due various events but they're always excellent fun and worth the hangover.

usernotfound0000 · 13/02/2020 11:54

I don't really drink at home, more of a social drinker. I haven't been in a situation where I've had a drink yet this year, however I will be out on Friday and Saturday and will drink, on Saturday I will have quite a few drinks, but then it will be weeks before I have anymore.

BiddyPop · 13/02/2020 11:55

I have a glass of wine with dinner a good few nights - maybe 3-4 nights per week. Most nights, it is a single glass. Some nights, it's 2 or 3. And those include weekend nights. DH would often also have one, we might have 3-4 bottles in a week between us some weeks, but most weeks its more like 1-2.

Occasionally I will also have a G&T before dinner on Sundays, or sherry (I know, how 70s of me). DH will sometimes have a beer.

We might also have a drink if we are out - which is not that often but while there are occasional heavy nights, mostly they are 2-3 drinks over the course of a night. And I'll quite often drink G&T, alternating it with plain T if it is going to be a long night. Which suits me fine - I usually drink plain T at the sailing club anyway, and DH usually drinks non-alcohol beer down there, as we are often driving home afterwards (and we quite like those tastes).

Twice a week. Every week. Friday and Saturday.
