I realised last year I was just listening to the same things over and over and really wanted to expand my horizons a bit.

Stuff I like is fairly mainstream but I also like Indie and Folk

Been listening to a lot of :

Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Billie Elish type thing

Only really not into heavy/death metal and punk, otherwise like all music

Other than that listen to anything, what album is your go to that you could listen to again and again?

Norah Jones - Feels like home

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/02/2020 18:33

I like a bit of Suzanne Vega, but never listened to a full album good shout.

I had the Norah Jones one before Spotify days - excellent shout

Is Jethro Tull like Nick Cave @VeniVidiWeeWee because I do like a bit of Nick Cave

Try the ‘Better Oblivion Community Centre’ album from last year if you like indie folk. It’s a collaboration between phoebe bridges and Connor oberst and my favourite album of last year.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/02/2020 18:55

Done Fine Line!

Kiwanuka is a great shout, I love Cold Little Heart

Have listened to a bit of Phoebe Bridgers so that can definitely go on the list

This is great! Chuffed, was thinking I'd get no replies.

Maybe you've been brainwashed too by the new radicals.

Best. Album. Ever.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 11/02/2020 19:00

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense

confusedrn · 11/02/2020 19:01

Michael Kiwanuka as PP said

Jessie Ware
Laura Marling
Bjork - debut is a long-loved album of mine

As is Fairground Attraction - first of a million kisses.

Ooh now I'm off to plug in and have a trip down memory lane!

MadisonAvenue · 11/02/2020 19:07

Positive Songs For Negative People - Frank Turner
England Keep My Bones - Frank Turner
Tre - Green Day (not their usual punk sound)

FutureDays · 11/02/2020 19:09

Ruarri Joseph I like all his albums, tales of grime and grit is a good starter.
Dan Donnelly, also his earlier band Sonovagun.

WitchitaMickey · 11/02/2020 19:11

No mythologies to follow - Mø

Rumours - Fleetwood Mac

FutureDays · 11/02/2020 19:15

I realised my previous suggestionscouldnt be classed as mainstream, so I'll second @MadisonAvenue suggestions of Frank Turner,

Also the slow readers club album build a tower.

Moonmelodies · 11/02/2020 19:17

You could try Kacey Musgrave's Golden Hour album.

Charley50 · 11/02/2020 19:21

Bjork - Vespertine

HippyChickMama · 11/02/2020 19:22

I came on to suggest Phoebe Bridgers.

Children Running Through by Patty Griffin

The Keeping Faith 1&2 albums by Amy Wadge or the Welsh language versions by Ela Hughes

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/02/2020 19:23

I'm not completely mainstream but I used to be more on the ball with what was current

My music era is really 90's Britpop Blur, Oasis, The Verve etc

but following on from that I got into stuff like Bob Dylan Leonard Cohen, Iron and Wine, Black Keys, Civil Wars, Rufus Wainwright, Florence and The Machine, Regina Spektor

But when I go looking for new stuff it tends to be pop as I've heard of the artists due to media exposure.

I've just stagnated a bit.

If you like folksy/ Norah Jones stuff, Tift Merritt’s first two albums, Tambourine and Bramble Rose, are lovely.

RightyMcRightface · 11/02/2020 19:32

A couple at either end of my listening spectrum - Agnes Obel, Aventine and Gary Numan, Savage. The former is a little melancholy, the second is rather less so. Id say both require a couple of listens through to appreciate.

Permanantlypuzzled · 11/02/2020 19:32

The hissing of summer lawns. Joni Mitchell.
