I’m doing some family tree research and can’t find this person - it’s definitely a male. What do you think?

Can anyone help me decipher this signature?

I think it’s Kylh at the start... I don’t think it’s a t.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 11/02/2020 20:12

I am not quite sure about the 'Hans'. I think the first name may be abbreviated due to the dot that follows.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 11/02/2020 20:17

If the dot is an abbreviation - could it be indicative of a middle name, beginning with a G?

How about Kyltmutz

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 11/02/2020 20:44

Hans Kylhuntz?

Ninkanink · 11/02/2020 20:46

Yes, Kylhuntz is a good option!

MrsJoshNavidi · 11/02/2020 20:47

First name looks like James to me.
Or Ham used to be a name.

Evanna13 · 11/02/2020 20:50

Could the first name be James?

Cheesecake53 · 11/02/2020 20:58

I also think the last letter in the name could be a esszett "ß".

SirVixofVixHall · 11/02/2020 21:22

I think it starts with Kylh or Kilb I now feel the crossed t effect is a red herring from the underlining of “affectionately “
Last letter an f maybe ?

SirVixofVixHall · 11/02/2020 21:23

Ham Kylburt ?

DogInATent · 11/02/2020 21:30

I now think the surname may end "-ly", if you compare the end of the surname with the end of "affectionately" on the line above it's almost identical.

Kyltly
Kyttly
Kyth__ly

Hi OP, sometimes the records have errors so worth checking something that may be way off. With my own family history research I found what should have been F in ancestry as a T, L as a B etc. Completely changed the surname.

Fuppy · 11/02/2020 21:32

There appears to be initials on the bottom left of the page, Looks like HK

dustibooks · 11/02/2020 21:33

I reckon the last letter in the surname is a 'y' because it looks the same as the obvious 'y' in the word 'affectionately' immediately above it.

That's my immediate reaction to it anyway.

blitzen · 11/02/2020 21:37

OP, have you had a Google of 'sutterlin script' or similar?

Flummingbird · 11/02/2020 21:43

How about Hamish for the first name? It was the first thing that jumped out at me. I read it as Hamish Kylhurst, just as a first impression...

Ninkanink · 11/02/2020 21:44

Yes, looking at it that could well be the case.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 11/02/2020 21:52

I’ve tried all these suggestions and still haven’t got anywhere. So frustrating! Keep them coming though.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 11/02/2020 21:53

Yes have googled sutterlin but it didn’t really help, though the script does look similar

OP posts:
HeronLanyon · 11/02/2020 21:55

Hans kylbuntz.

NotSusanna · 11/02/2020 21:59

I also read it as Hamish.

Thislittlefinger · 11/02/2020 23:55

Could it be Ham S. Kylburney or
Hamish S. Kilburny
Abra Ham S Bylberry...
Kilkenny
I've seen some very odd alterations of spellings in my family research.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 12/02/2020 06:10

Kilburney and variations is getting the most results so far - nothing linked to my family yet, but lots of possibilities to search. Thank you!

I'm wondering now could it be Hon. S. Kylbarry. Maybe he had an important position abroad. Also have you searched all possibilities with the names Maisie, Margaret and Mary.
