Does anyone recognise this (80s) doll?

I've been helping my parents tidy their loft and have rediscovered some old toys I'd forgotten existed, including my Rainbow Brite doll 😊 Apparently they are worth a few £ now 🤷‍♀️ However, she came out of the bag with a friend but I can't work out who the other one is. It doesn't match any of the pictures of Rainbow Brite characters I've googled. I thought she must be from the same range, but maybe not - does anyone recognise her?

From my deep dark memory - Twink Sprite.

I had the rainbow one.

handslikecowstits · 10/02/2020 11:10

No hang on, twink sprite was her little white fluffy friend.

Need to think....

Oh wow!! My sister and I loved Rainbow Brite!! I remember 'playing' this game and being the characters.

Hoik · 10/02/2020 11:12

She looks like Tickled Pink who had pink hair but she's wearing the wrong colour dress.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/02/2020 11:12

Moonglow.

You weren't a military brat by any chance were you OP?

ShuffleHop · 10/02/2020 11:13

That's what is confusing me Hoik, wrong clothes and her hair looks too pale.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/02/2020 11:14

Although the dress is maybe wrong. Mine bit the dust a long time ago.

ditavonteesed · 10/02/2020 11:15

No idea but they are so beautiful I love old dolls so much joy

Dieu · 10/02/2020 11:16

So cute!

ShuffleHop · 10/02/2020 11:16

Ooh, Moonglow, that rings a bell I'll try and Google.

No, not a military family. I just really didn't like getting rid of toys has a child and my parents have long space in the eaves and haven't ever moved so 'stuff' that went in there has taken decades to come out again!

Other 'treasures' uncovered include 'baby talk' and my beloved grandma and grandad trolls 😆

Hoik · 10/02/2020 11:20

Moonglow has the right colour hair. I was thinking had she faded a bit in the attic but maybe not.

I had a happy day last year when my mam found my old Patty O'Green doll in her loft and my Get Along Gang figures. DH was very put out when I said it was the happiest day of my life Grin

Hoik · 10/02/2020 11:21

Baby Talk! I loved my Baby Talk.

ShuffleHop · 10/02/2020 11:22

So, apparently Moonglow dolls are ultra rare and £££ and the pics I can see are different to mine sadly, although I think it's the same character so thank you! Maybe mine was a knock-off brand or something?

ShuffleHop · 10/02/2020 11:23

Get Along Gang 😄

I bet 1980s you put her in a different dress and the original dress is on another doll and long gone. All of DDs dolls wear different clothes, her Elsa was wearing Moana's outfit last time I saw her and Moana was wearing a toga made from a handkerchief.

Andtwomakesix · 10/02/2020 11:31

Ahhh Rainbow brite...that brings back good memories... I don't know who that doll is but just wanted to say it made me smile.

Notsure94 · 10/02/2020 11:32

Is it Jem? No idea why that came into my mind but it sparked a memory!

ShuffleHop · 10/02/2020 11:42

Right my googling has led me to rainbowbrite.net (fan site complete with lists of all the dolls, discussion forum and fanfic 😳) and it looks like there wasn't an 18" version (like mine) of Moonglow made, and the smaller version that is listed had different fabric arms. So, I reckon mine must be a decent knock off brand, purchased to keep my actual Rainbow Brite company. She's still made me smile though!
Thanks all! Now, what to do with all this stuff now cluttering up my house...! 😆😩

I had Rainbow Brite and Baby Talk, I loved Baby Talk!

oohyoudevilyou · 10/02/2020 12:18

I think it's Sandra Silbermond, OP. If you weren't a military brat, did you have family or friends serving in Germany? I had a bright pink one (Penny Popperpink) and my sister had this one - bought from a shop in Hameln, W Germany.

ShuffleHop · 10/02/2020 12:26

Ooh, they do look similar, the hair is right, although google image is yet to throw one up with the stripey arms and legs mine has. My uncle used to travel to Germany a lot on business back then and it's possible he bought it for me, although my memory (and that of my parents) doesn't stretch that far to be sure!

OP posts:
Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/02/2020 12:35

Sandra Silbermond is the name they gave Moonglow in Germany. I was a military brat and spent most of my childhood there thanks to a df in the RAF. That's where mine came from. I had a vague feeling they didn't sell them anywhere else?

We weren't a million miles away from Hameln either.

ShuffleHop · 10/02/2020 14:35

So I emailed the Rainbow Brite website I found earlier because the mystery was annoying me and I've just heard back. She isn't part of the R.B. range although has a lot of similarities so their best guess is that she is an imitation brand made in the 80s. The Sandra Silbermond idea did sound plausible to me but actually she's quite different from the photos I've found.

Anyway, I've enjoyed my morning of 80s childhood nostalgia and have had a particularly unproductive day 😄 I don't think I have the heart to charity shop her now, so if my daughter doesn't want to play with her (doubtful, not really in to dolls) then into our loft she'll go. (See, no wonder mum and dad still had so much of my stuff stashed away 🤦‍♀️).
