How many cups/mugs do you own

How many cups/mugs to you actually own?

I have a whole cupboard full but can't get rid of any because, it's someone birthday mug or it's a one with a picture on or it's a Mother's Day gift.

I would have so much more space if we all just had one each and then a couple for guests so why I can't I bring myself to just get rid.

I had a bit of a mug cull recently of ones which had not been used for at least three years!

I still have at least 20!

Artinsurance · 09/02/2020 23:36

We must have at least 30 in the cupboard plus another 1/2 dozen we let the builders use. We regularly have about 10-15 in the dishwasher and there are only 2 of us (but we do work from home).

Mine are all tasteful, partner's are mostly from his son and he won't get rid of them Confused

A whole cupboard full

They’re all in DD1’s bedroom at the moment though so about 3 that the rest of us can use

Because the mug would be upset if you discard it. You can't have sad mugs ending up in charity shops. Even the mugs that I never ever want to drink out of have to stay.....(it would be like splitting up Woody and Buzz Light-year).
I started off with 6 matching mugs when I got my first home....oh and my larger best mug.....and 2 stray mugs which came from ex partner.....so why now do I have a cupboard full of unmatching mugs and I still only ever drink out of my favourite Starbucks one - bought not stolen!

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/02/2020 23:39

4 Le Creuset mugs and a Strictly Come Dancing one, that's it.

badg3r · 09/02/2020 23:46

We are the same as you OP. Part of me wishes we had less but I just can't get rid of them, for the same reason as you! Unfortunately we are quite careful with our crockery and have a nice bouncy wooden floor so things rarely get broken either...

Defender90 · 09/02/2020 23:58

I have the 4 that are part of the dinner set (I never drink from them)

2 from a road trip that I use all the time (Colorado for coffee and M&M Vegas for herbal tea) one other that's my when I haven't washed the colorado one yet!

I need to stop being so attached to some of the mugs. I think I can get a couple to go with DH to the office.

Gemz1806 · 10/02/2020 00:04

We have a cupboard full, each visitor (we have a lot) has their own favourite mug, as do I, DH would drink out a priex jug if that's all that's clean! I have mugs for coffee, thin china for tea, glass cups if they are lucky enough to get a proper coffee machine coffee and the obvious sports direct cup for heating up beans!

Spartonian · 10/02/2020 00:07

@Gemz1806 we had the sports direct mug for the same reason until it broke. now we have a large, cup of love mug instead, it takes up twice the normal mug space so I might charity shop it tomorrow along with some others.

To many they fill 2 cupboards in the kitchen
Every mothers day and fathers day we get a new mug from dd so we have 11 each now she also buys us a mug for xmas so we both have 11 xmas mugs.
Then we have our everyday mugs there's 15 of them

Smokeahontas · 10/02/2020 00:09

At least 25 and I live on my own! I love buying them and have been gifted quite a few as well.

stickerqueen · 10/02/2020 00:11

forgot the sports direct mugs we have 2 big ones. Also forgot the 2 poundland mugs a big one and small one

Gemz1806 · 10/02/2020 00:12

@Spartonian that is the only use for a mug that size! I do feel abit hard done by reading this thread, I've not got a single mummy mug... I do have quite a few "mummy's wine" & "wife's gin glass" 😂 they must know me well!! 😉

Bluerussian · 10/02/2020 00:16

Loads! I only use a couple regularly though as am on my own now. When husb was here more were used, he was a bigger coffee/tea drinker than I and of course occasionally one is dropped and broken.
Suffice to say I have more mugs than I need.

Plenty of nice cups and saucers too. Crockery rich, cash poor aye :-)?

MelanieFrontage · 10/02/2020 00:16

We have about 15 but only ever use our massive Yorkshire Tea mugs, these mugs were recalled a few years ago because apparently the handles were falling off! I refuse to give up on them purely because of the volume of gorgeous strong, stewed, Yorkshire tea that they hold 😂

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 10/02/2020 00:17

6 saved for 'best' 12 that go with dinner service used at christmas, and 31 in the cupboard above the kettle. It doesn't look as full as usual, but then again the dishwasher is on and I also have a cup hoarding teenager.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 10/02/2020 00:20

@MelanieFrontage yorkshire tea mugs! I'm so jealous!

HangingOffYourCloud · 10/02/2020 00:21

I have 2 sets of 4 matching mugs, plus one individual mug. I only use the individual mug and I live alone Hmm

MelanieFrontage · 10/02/2020 00:30

@Heaviestdirtyestsoul here they are in all their enormous glory, stood next to a pathetic sized Richer Sounds mug for perspective!
In addition to their size I love the fact that I defeat the recall every time I have a cuppa and the handle stays stuck to the mug 😂

How many cups/mugs do you own
katy1213 · 10/02/2020 00:30

Too many here! You need some strategic breakages. And box up the Christmas/Mother's day mugs and bring them out in season.

katy1213 · 10/02/2020 00:34

I think Richer Sounds might break and nobody would miss it! I've binned the truly horrible ones here!

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 10/02/2020 00:34

@MelanieFrontage they are glorious! I like that you can rebel, one glorious brew at a time 😁

painintheholeSIL · 10/02/2020 00:44

I just counted. I have 64🙈

LivingInATrailer · 10/02/2020 00:50

Can I just ask the posters with the humongous mug collection if you also have humongous kitchens to fit them all in? I have around 10 which I think is loads. Me and DH and our baby DS who obviously doesn't drink tea or coffee. I have anything from about 3-5 cups a day and DH has 1 maybe 2 at a push. And I mostly just rinse my mug out at the end of each cuppa and reuse it. Washing it properly at the end of the day
